The BBC have employed a "Football Manager" expert. This was his assessment...

A box-to-box midfielder with great stamina, work rate and determination, Abdoulaye Doucoure is not especially cultured but would bring a strong physical presence to the Hornets.

"In FM, he’s seen as a decent Premier League player but his attributes for passing and technique are 12 or higher so he’s not a total clogger.

"Anything more than £3m as a fee would probably be over-the-top, though."

Nice to see that our licence fee is not being wasted.

You're missing the context of my post - I was responding to the claim that the loan would help him improve his passing.

But yes, I would still rather have him here. Not only are we not safe either, but providing we can get the necessary points to stay up, the second half of the season would be an ideal time to give him some experience ahead of the next campaign.

The whole family economics and doing each other solids is nice and lovely picture, but I think this was a move borne out of necessity - it was too late to get him in the squad given the foreign players situation.

Is this the bloke who didn't want to move country cause he got his missus up the duff?

So we respond by getting him to uproot to one place for six months, then come to Watford?

    I'm confused.

I'm confused why he can't be integrated into the squad now. Apparently it's because he wants to remain loyal to those who are fighting for game time - but it's not much of a consolation for the like of Guids who'll know that come next season he'll be further down the pecking order anyway.

Sounds a cracking signing but just confused why we didn't integrate him ready for the new season which in my view will be harder than this one.

  14. I imagine there is more to it than being loyal, that's just putting a spin on it.

He was always a long term target, the opportunity came up to get him early...
We don't need him right now but Granada need help...
QSF already has to integrate Suarez into the midfield and Amrabat into attack so probably thinks he has enough to do...
French league isn't as good as the Prem or La Liga so this also allows the club to see how he develops...

With Capoue, Behrami, Watson and Suarez, there was no chance of Doucoure getting that much time on the pitch.

Signing him this January was just a pre-emptive move. Better to keep him busy and match fit (whilst also boosting Granada) than leave him playing U21 football like Berghuis. Then he can join ul with us for a full pre season.

So by going to Spain for six months Doucoure could qualify as African?

We're building for a serious push at the ACORN next season :eating:

Smart business, we all know QSF hates changing the team if he can avoid it, we took advantage of the fact that Rennes are in a bit of disarray and secured him while we had the chance, plus at the same time potentially helping to keep Grenada up.

In the summer its likely that a few of our midfielders will go (Watson, Behrami?) and we will form a new midfield with upgrades all over for next season, perfect.

What happens if he absolutely loves it at Granada, beautiful city, great weather, guaranteed game time, no rainy nights at Stoke etc and decided he wants to stay there ?? Or even more likely, his wife does ??

apart from anything else Watson is HG. I doubt he'll be going anywhere even if he's no longer 1st choice

It'll be one of Guediora, Behrami, Capoue (If a big offer comes in and he wants to go, similar to Ighalo) or Behrami, with highlighted most at risk given present information and pecking order.

This may have already been covered, probably multiple times, but I'll say it anyway. If the Pozzos are intent on offloading Grenada then to maximise sales they need to keep Granada in the top division.

Sending them these players to assist their plight rather than adding them to our current squad when we don't really need them is beneficial to the Pozzos financially. Also, adding 2 players to our midfield already is quite big, so adding a couple more would really upset the team at a time when a certain amount of stability is required, plus they'd find it hard to get straight into the current team without a bedding in period, like say a pre-season would.

If that is the case then I imagine the conversation goes "We really want you to play for Watford but we really need your help first. You are guaranteed to be a Watford player come May 2016, but just for now could you please give us a massive boost by helping out our sister club Grenada where you will be much more likely to gain first team football this season. There'll be a few Euros in it for you as a thank you."

Grenada stay up. The Pozzos sell at a decent profit. We will already have a 2016/17 squad already starting to be assembled and take shape with a full pre-season from the end of May instead of July 1st, and without the panic of wondering who will be available, leaving just a few additions required for next year.

    Seems simple.

    Is it?

    They're not selling Grenada though.

I'm sure Sherlock said the recent discussions were regarding commercial opportunities and Main Man Pozzo denied he was selling the club.

Not getting much game time at Granada yet. Hope he's not going to spend the next couple of months as an unused sub ?!! Wonder how much say the club & manager had in him arriving there on loan ?

We should stop loaning players to Granada if they're not going to get game time.

We should recall Success, Peneranda and Doucoure and loan them somewhere else.
