He looked a massive knobber on Twitter driving around in his Ferrari with a stupid goatee beard. Bullet dodged. Still need a defender one day though.
Yes but is there any evidence that simply purchasing a PL quality centre back would give us extra cover in the centre back position? I just dont see how that would work.
Er, didn't he do incredibly badly in the Prem last season, just like every other Sheffield United player?
Why would we ever need to think about playing Kucka at centre back when we already have Deeney as fifth choice there?
If we re gonna talk makeshift right backs , I’d like to throw Tom Cleverleys hat into the ring . Tactically aware , great engine , decent tackler , half decent crosser and good reader of the game .
Are you trying to imply that Kucka, who’s nickname is the tank , and Cleverly are in a sexual relationship and TC is Daddy and Kucka is Mummy? I find the first part of that plausible but the second most definitely not .
Well I wouldn't want him as a starter of course, but he certainly wasn't one of their worst players, wouldn't mind him as AFCON backup
That's over half the entire outlay on CBs we've used in the prem under Gino: Prodl, Cathcart, Mapps and Britos were all free, Sierralta and Troost were undisclosed but given our finances last summer I'm assuming there was no initial payment. Kaboul was £4m and Kaba was £7m. So in total our 8 premier league centre backs have cost around £11m. That's about £1.5m per premier league centre back.
All true, though it has been widely reported that we bid and bid more than Southampton. Only conclusion can be that we wouldn’t pay the wages the Saints would and I’m fine with that.
Is this the part where we start trying to convince ourselves that we haven’t spent the last few days being excited about his arrival, and actually, we’re lucky really, because he’s definitely a bit ****?
You forgot Craig Dawson for £4mil. But you're actually somewhat proving Pozzo and Duxbury's approach. They've spent very very little on CBs, and we were in the Premier League for half a decade. While our defence was poor during the relegation season, the numbers are somewhat distorted by the two Man City blowouts - and you could just as easily say that scoring goals was at least as much a problem. Over those five years, we finished tied 8th, 17th, 18th, 13th, 17th in GA. I agree we need significant upgrades, and I'm not confident with what we've got. But I can just as easily see how our hierarchy says it's not worth it, especially if the goal is survival and nothing more. I do, however, think they're wrong.
I wouldn't be at all shocked if Diego Godin ended up with us. That's if they're truly looking at a CB. Absolute class defender even though he's 35.
If he came to the Premier League I would imagine it would be to a side like Wolves or Everton to be honest.
Yes I'd imagine so. It was tied up that he went to Betis but for some reason they went for Pezzella I believe. But as I said if we're really looking at a CB I could see a Kucka type deal in the offering.
Maybe. It's just a feeling I have. He missed a few matches with covid last season but pretty much played every minute after.
