Exciting signing lad looks like he has lots of potential.

3 or 4 more of these please Gino. Need to bring the age profile of the squad right down as it's been trending the wrong way since promotion in 2015.

Exactly the signings we should have been making over the last 5 years. Lets hope the lesson is well and truly learned. Good stuff, looks a great prospect.

Also nice to see we’ve put a little something in the deal for Rochdale instead of paying the bare minimum end of contract.

Usual philosophy is to give 5 year deals to duds or aging duds and 2 year contracts to those worth having for longer.

Looks like a good signing on paper, hopefully we can get a couple more of the young players we have been linked to recently (Ugbo, Doig, etc) wrapped up quickly too.

Nice signing, and might herald a shift in transfer policy.

Last player we signed from Rochdale was Buckley, wasn't it?

Statement implies he's been signed for the first team squad rather than the U-23s (I seem to remember they normally say if that's the case). Hopefully a sign that we are looking to lower the age of the squad / plan a bit more long term.

What's not to like? I don't suppose he'll be in the first team squad this season (probably a loan to the Championship), but if we go back down, I bet he'll be a really good option to get us back up (and if we do stay up he'll still be a great option for the future)

I'd be surprised if he was in the first team picture this season. I'd expect him to be loaned to L1 or lower Championship.

5 year deal so he can now get seriously stuck into as much Baileys and hookers a young man can take.
3 years from now we'll be reading posts that "this could be his year....like a new signing"

Sounds like a very good signing on paper, but until we start developing young players properly it is a waste of time. We have murdered the careers of many young talents since the Pozzo's arrived, the biggest fault of their reign has been this mishandling of young players.

Think this is a really good signing. He's only 18 and from the videos he looks fearless, getting lumps kicked out of him in League 1 but for the most part staying on his feet and carrying on. I think it's a little lazy to describe him as "raw" - there's a lot of good decision making in the clips here, he looks to have good game intelligence. I hope we don't loan him and he can play some minutes in the Premier League - I quite like the idea of a confident 18 year old who can run at defenders coming off the bench. Think we're all a little too quick to assume that anyone under 21 needs to go out on loan but when was the last time we loaned someone out and they actually came back better? We don't have the clout of a big club that can insist loan players play a certain amount of minutes, too often we send them out and they stagnate. Give him a taste of the big time and tell him to go enjoy himself - surely we've got the perfect coach to convey that message?

In fairness he was just unfortunate that he had better centre backs ahead of him and the change of formation removed a starting slot. I'd draw a distinction with a winger, where you might want to throw a fearless young player on to see if they can make something happen, in defence you want a steady Eddie who doesn't make any errors and knows how to manage a game.

It's annoying for people as Wilmot is young, English, seems like a nice lad and didn't perform badly at any point. Unfortunately for him, he's also our fifth best centre back at the moment and there were only two spots available in the second half of the season.
