hair is the first thing I look for in a watford player, and this fellows appears to be made of greasy cassette tape. I'm OUT.

The first thing I look for in a Watford player is "how good is he as a footballer?" But that's just me, I'm weird like that.

He really stuck in my mind as a player I'd love Watford to sign when we played them early on at St James's. I'm a little shocked we've managed to sign him against some fierce competition. £7m is a pretty good price as well in the current market.

We know he's got a lot of Premier League experience and is very talented. The last few we've managed to sign have really improved the look of the squad no end.

I hope by next month we'll look back at the Gillingham game and all laugh at how crap we were, and how good we are now. :D

I do not have the same in depth knowledge as most of you on any of the players we have signed this summer. I had heard of Kaboul and Jsnmaat, but couldn't tell you much about them. I only take an interest in players once we have signed them, and we seem to have brought in a degree and depth of quality that we have never had before. I am hopeful that last night was simply blip and the season will be a success. Welcome to the club Dayrl.

Totally agree, remember looking at the relegated sides and he was one player I have always thought to be very good.

It also seems like the slightly more advanced role he will have with us playing the system we have sounds like it'll suit him very well as he should have more cover should he be caught up field.

I'm very happy though it is funny some reactions some fans have, they will go on about how we should be signing players with prem experience and when we do it seems a case of not wanting that one!

A good price for a player at a good age who has plenty of PL experience and a high number of assists from right back too in a struggling Newcastle side.

I actually agree with a lot of the Newcastle comments about him.

He does get caught high up the pitch, and he is a little iffy when it comes to accidentally playing the attacker onside.

But, his role under Walter would be much higher up the pitch, and would give him much more of a free reign. Very few of their fans say that he is disappointing in an attacking sense.

I think he is a brilliant signing, and perfect for a 352.

Like most who have commented already he was the one player that stood out for Newcastle in our away game but from reports his form dipped at the end of last season. When I had occasion to watch Newcastle last season he seemed better going forward than defending and does seem to be able to score a few goals. Could prove useful when we score very few from midfield (and even less from our strikers at the moment).

My one concern is the flurry of activity now. Surely we should have had all our summer activity sorted before now to give the players time to gel into a team or do we see the August games as still part of the pre-season?

Yes, as they got relegated, it's safe to say that Janmatt was one of many many players in the Newcastle squad who's form dropped.

It's annoying, but there is the international break after this weekend so it could be worse I suppose.

I would say very few if any clubs sort all their business before the season starts, a lot of clubs playing poker with each other not releasing their player until they've signed their target etc. Then throw in players and agents deciding on different options, in an ideal world of course you want them in as early as possible though then you may be paying a bigger premium to get it done early but I wouldn't say there's anything unusual or too concerning about it myself.

Fair enough but not strictly accurate as Newcastle picked up 12 points from their final 6 games (average of 2 points a game) but 25 points from the previous 32 (average of 0.78 per game).

Just found out he has the most assists for a defender in the Premier League......even better.

I realise that there is brinkmanship being played at the moment regarding players but are we in a strong enough position to be playing this game? Arsenal are unlikely to be one of the clubs struggling at the end of the season but we could be if we don't get players settled early enough. For the first time we have a second season in the Premier and we need to consolidate rather than take chances.

Kaboul, Pereyra and Jamaat have all had pre seasons with other clubs. All three should hit the ground running. Interesting to see how fit they look compared to the rest of our squad.

(Kaboul played in Sunderland's opener at Man City, Janmaat played Newcastle's first two matches and Pereyra played a few friendlies including at the London Stadium. Kaboul and Janmaat have finished on the losing side in all their competitive matches this season lol)

Its impossible to get all your signings done until the window shuts and you have to name your 23 man squad. Its a bit like buying a house and being involved in a chain, for example we won't let players like Nyom go until we have a replacement but we also need somebody lined up to take him (if its not udinese) so we can only move as fast as all the other clubs involved.

Suits 3-5-2 better than 442 but hope this doesn't mean Amrabat is going.

    Hopefully the end of Nyom

I am sorry but I don't agree with the analogy of a chain transaction in a house purchase. Why can we not be ready before everyone else? Yes we may not be able to deal beyond 31st August but we are not prevented from buying players before that date if the money is right for them to come to Watford. I understand why you raise the comparison but if a player wants to join and the money is right for the selling club the transaction should just happen. If the selling club wants to wait for a replacement to be purchased then we move to another target.

Put bluntly players and agents will want to see if they can get better deals and bigger clubs. We won't be too many players first choices. As it dawns on them that we are their best option they will sign but bigger clubs will keep them dangling until they sign their preferred options. Bound to take time. If we get Kaboul, Janmaat, Pereyra and Boufal I would say that's a great window.....on paper at least.

Meh. Never been impressed with Janmaat.

Kind of player who avoids stick by looking like he's 'having a go'. In reality, he abandoned any attempt to play well last season as soon as he started angling for a move before January. Less a case of a rat fleeing a sinking ship, more a case of it personally punching a few holes in it to quicken the job.

I would agree that it seems to have been a good transfer window but just reserving judgement as so often we seem to have been disappointed after potentially good signings fail to live up to their billing. As for bigger deals and better clubs I would say that outside the top 7-8 teams in England we are one of the most attractive propositions due to our geography. As a player, would you rather live just outside London or in Stoke? Would any of the players we have signed or about to sign get in to the top 8 sides on a regular basis? For those reasons I still say that we could perhaps have done our transfer business earlier.

If you genuinely believe he's no better than the likes of Anya, Paredes and Nyom then I think you should never openly give your opinion on anything to do with football ever again.

"No defender has assisted more goals in the Premier League than Daryl Janmaat since his debut in August 2014 (10)"

Nice. No stats available yet on how many goals he's assisted in conceding though.
