That’s fair. Many on here and Twitter have said that though.

That would be a Pozzo appointment. No thank you.

I’ve never seen anyone put on a pedestal the way this Manga bloke has by Watford fans! Suppose it’s the last throw of the dice. If Manga fails then it’s all over so might as well go all in.

Please quote some of the posts on here that have put him on a pedestal.

Are you serious? Given the dross served up by Pozzo there has understandably been calls for him to be given free rein and expectation that he is suddenly going to mould a championship conquering team this year or next on a small budget.

If the word pedestal has somehow offended you then I’ll restate: My point is I’ve never seen so much hope placed in one man under such poor circumstances!

People are quite impressed by his CV. I would say it is deserved but this is also a step up in terms of both the level and the role. But the important thing is here is a football person who is publicly accountable and will explain decisions. We’ve seen how Udinese have broken their cycle with Marino. Now Marino is obviously impressive as an individual but it is also a structural improvement to involve him.

Granted, I think I'd be saying something similar regardless of the manager, but who do we have at the moment who would fit the manager's style?

Offend me? I'm just wondering where you got the idea from that people are putting him on a pedestal - because that seems an exaggeration based on what I've read on here.

The point is I can't find any posts that say such a thing.

If Jumbo is able to point me in the right direction though at some I might have missed - which guided him to his differing opinion - then by all means I'd welcome him to do so. Otherwise I'd just wonder more if he'd just made the notion up.

The possibility of him becoming our manager is giving me more than just Angst in my pants. I am thinking of diarrhoea.
Ismael would clearly be a very disappointing appointment to many fans

Not overly enthusiastic about this but to criticise his style of play after the way we’ve played in the last season is a bit rich.
Is he actually being appointed or is this just rumours still?

And sadly Bournemouth have not been relegated, so we probably won't be playing them next season.

im not sure that is strictly fair? I don’t think there are any posts that I have seen suggesting he is the best thing since sliced bread. Mostly people just hoping that he can help to turn things round.

Asked ChatGPT to summarise Ismael's tactics and this is what it came up with:

Here is a summary of Valérien Ismaël's football tactics:

    1. High-Intensity Pressing: Ismaël's teams often employ an aggressive and high-intensity pressing style. Players are instructed to press the opposition aggressively and as a unit, aiming to win the ball back quickly and disrupt the opponent's build-up play.
    2. Compact Defensive Structure: Ismaël emphasizes maintaining a compact defensive shape, with the team organized in a structured and disciplined manner. Players are expected to close down spaces, limit passing options for the opposition, and defend collectively as a team.
    3. Direct and Vertical Style of Play: Ismaël's teams typically prefer a direct and vertical style of play. Quick transitions from defense to attack are encouraged, with players looking to play long passes or make decisive forward runs to catch the opposition off guard.
    4. Wingbacks and Overlapping Fullbacks: Ismaël often utilizes wingbacks or overlapping fullbacks to provide width and create attacking options. These players are expected to make overlapping runs, deliver crosses into the box, and contribute to the team's offensive play.
    5. Emphasis on Physicality and Work Rate: Ismaël values physicality, work rate, and commitment from his players. He encourages a high level of intensity and demands that his teams give their all in terms of effort, fitness, and determination.
    6. Set-Piece Focus: Ismaël recognizes the importance of set-pieces and often incorporates specific routines and strategies to exploit these situations. Both defensively and offensively, his teams work on set-piece plays to gain an advantage over their opponents.
It's worth noting that Ismaël's tactics may vary based on the specific requirements of each team and the players at his disposal. His tactical approach has been effective in achieving success, and he has gained recognition for his ability to maximize the potential of his squads.

Can you ask ChatGPT if it’s available to coach the team next season?

Anything would be better than this awful behemoth we are to appoint.

Taking football back to the dark ages.

It’s an awful appointment in-waiting, an opportunity missed and a sign that the sick malaise surrounding our club is going nowhere soon. New era my ass. Another wasted window and season lie ahead.

    Disgusting.

If you mean football played under the likes of GT and Aidy (for a season ) then maybe not so bad ?

Be nice to see some attacking play and shots on goal rather than tip tappy at the back for most of the game .

But guess it probably won’t be like that given we won’t build a squad suited to that style or unles we are winning he won’t last long .

To me it seems like a desperate punt to get out of the championship, based on looking at what he did at Barnsley and thinking we can provide him with better players so we can finish higher than they did.

It wouldn’t be a sustainable style in the PL (just like 4-4-2 wasn’t under QSF and got rumbled by the time we played teams for the second time) so if we did get promoted it would mean ripping everything up and starting again.

I think we just have to accept Manga or no Manga, there is a sheer desperation to get back to the PL from Gino that will override everything else. We flirted with something more long term for all of 10 games, then completely shat the bed and reverted to type.

While Gino is owner the focus will always be on the immediate short term, so probably no point getting annoyed or being surprised about these type of appointments. A leopard doesn’t change his spots.

I don't think we can rush to judgement like that on this as a potential appointment. I've been very critical of the club for a whole host of reasons and those concerns remain.

But we also have to be realistic about who we can now attract given the owner's behaviour, our status as a mid table Championship team and financial situation. I can't say I'm particularly excited about Ismael but I'm also not particularly against the idea.

So he and Manga (to a lesser extent after the first window under his tenure) get the benefit of the doubt from me, something that is no longer afforded to Pozzo or Duxbury.

You do wonder what effort, if any, Pozzo puts into appointing managers. The process seems to have as much due diligence as a couple of builders discussing it on a tea break.

It seems to be as limited as, who has done what we’re looking to do now, before. Unfortunately he seems to ignore every other bit of information that might override that particular achievement. Like Wilder, he got a team out of the championship, sure, but he also brought that team up from league one so had time to build towards that (rather than just 11 games) and also stunk the place out at Boro.

I'd like to see some attacking football. I'm not overly worried about how we would cope if we got promoted as I doubt we will get promoted in the next 5 or so years. We are far more likely to be relegated without an injection of funds. I don't see us being able to assemble a squad of real quality ball-playing footballers who will comfortably fit into the prem with such limited funds in a competitive market-place but would be delighted to be proved wrong. I don't like seeing players of the ability we currently have at the back, nervously trying to play the ball out from the back. I'd rather we got the ball forward far more quickly to players who were prepared to attack at pace.
