I would imagine Frankfurt have more money than us in the Championship and would likely be able to pay him more.
But in fairness, people may have seen the link and done some research about his credentials and realised what a great job he has done at Frankfurt.
I think there's a lot less dosh sloshing around in German football and even if frankfurt are in a position to pay more it doesn't necessarily mean that they would. Don Gino may have made him an offer he couldn't refuse
Perhaps - but it seems like he's done a lot of the legwork in getting them into their current strong position. And given they have CL money this season, but I'd be amazed if Frankfurt can't match what we are offering.
Depends if we get promoted or not though doesn’t it. EF earned €53m in TV prize money for 20/21 (couldn’t find last seasons figure) next year we’ll earn £35m then the following season £0 if we don’t go up.
You're right. We're sh1t and staring financial oblivion in the face. No way a chap with a pedigree like this guy would ever dream of coming to such a broken sh1tbag of a club as watford
That wasn’t really my point, just stating a fact, if we don’t go up we won’t have more money than EF, it will be quite the opposite. Not going up is an actual possibility, our parachute payments, factually, will reduce next year and disappear completely the year after. Those are just facts, not any comment on the state of our finances.
Can't speak to why he'd subject himself to us, but that Reddit thread that @reids linked to earlier is full of Frankfurt fans telling us that he has essentially chosen to leave because he is unhappy/has fallen out entirely with the new guy they have brought in, because his approach is entirely data-based and diametrically opposed to Manga's large personal scouting network-based approach. In which case, our relative financial worth to Eintracht wouldn't necessarily come into it - just our willingness to offer what he was asking, and to get in there by hook or by crook/early enough to convince him to come to us rather than any of the conjectured Prem teams who are also on the lookout for someone in that role, according to the thread.
I'm not ITK by any means but I was told Gino got rid of Giaretta but Papa Pozzo was so annoyed because he was a family friend and told Gino to reinstate him
TBH, all my German colleagues used to rave about them. I tried one and found it akin to devil’s spawn.
There are some good finds in there, but from those Muani was someone who it seemed we actually made an offer for, but he rejected us for Frankfurt. Considering we were also heavily linked with Borre the same might have happened there. So while his scouting might turn out to be an improvement over the Pozzos', those suggest his approach isn't/wasn't that far away from ours. That could also be why it made some sense for him to come here. What the key difference seems to be though is that somehow Frankfurt had more pulling power for players we were both interested in. Him leaving Frankfurt to come here would make no sense unless he's been promised that there's money to spend. Unless perhaps he's coming to join the wider Pozzo network in general, as opposed to only us, in which case many of his suggestions might end up being for Udinese instead? Especially if Udinese continue doing well and get CL next season.
Or there’s something else afoot in terms of ownership. This could be someone else getting a team/structure in situ before arriving themselves. On the face of it, I can’t really find many reasons why he would leave them for us at this present time, unless there’s something major happening that we don’t know.
