Have you considered putting this in the Labour thread? Or maybe not bothering? Owen Jones and Ash Sarkar have roots as working class as you are, support trade unions and don’t like liberal, centrist Labour. You seem to dislike them disproportionately and oddly so, because you also pupport to agree with the things they want, an authentic w class Labour Party. You sound like you want Labour to win, but also want to throw every Daily Telegraph cliche at Labour. Goldilocks politics. Labour always too hot, too cold. Never just right.
Being ‘anti-woke’ is a conservative way of discrediting minority causes, without seeming to be anti minorities. ‘Woke’ is thrown at anyone who speaks up in solidarity, irrespective of their bank balance. Irrespective of the actual laws.
No . Because I don't preach to the converted. If I call out some fakes, then that is all I can do . You are not a fake @Moose for the record
Probably. But you have those who want to discredit minorities and those who want use minorities for their own benefit. Two sides of the same coin .
Those are not the only choices. There has always been solidarity within the Labour movement for causes that affect other w class people. Standing against ‘woke’ isn’t in any way pro-working class. It’s pro bosses. Standing with the unions, that’s what we can do together.
Akchewally isn't the assassination of Julius Caesar the classical wrong analogy - a better one for de Pfeffel's demise would be the 'mad' Caligula being overthrown by his Praetorian Guard (aka the cabinet) and the same Praetorian Guard proclaiming Claudius his successor?
Dunno. Reading the tea-leaves I hope this isn't a portent of nothing getting in the way of 'war' with the EU.
I’m beginning to wonder if the Ongoing Madness of Liz Truss will need its own thread? Each day reveals some new supercharged stupidity. Today, it’s to get £8bn of savings out of a civil service staff budget of £9bn and to simply ‘ignore’ Nicola Sturgeon. The elected leader of one of the devolved nations. It’s a slow moving car crash of epic proportions. She will be PM during this Winter’s desperate cost of living crisis and while the Rus/Ukr war threatens to widen. It’s going to be a crazy ride.
Probably not, knowing the target audience. The whole thing is absolutely horrific, two people desperately trying to out-**** each other for an audience of ZzTops.
Super quick u-turn from Truss here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62390016 Policy announced last night, binned before lunchtime today. Bonkers it was ever announced in the first place. I know it’s been mooted as a right wing fever dream but it’s diametrically opposite to levelling up, essentially saving billions from outside London and the South East even though outside of housing costs, people oop north still pay the same for their gas and leccy and at Tesco for their weekly shop. Bizarrely there was no plan to introduce regional pay for MPs
She is claiming a u-turn now.... https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/ukne...tor-pay-outside-london/ar-AA10dR82?li=BBoPWjQ
Liz, how big a mistake did you make with your levelling down red meat plans yesterday? Yup I agree, it was a whopper. It's the ill-thought out policy that got away I suppose...
Tories like Truss and other Johnson acolytes have almost completely conflated governing with agreeable Mail/Express/Telegraph headlines. Policy is clickbait, laughable, ephemeral. The important thing is to leave followers energised in their belief that the cult marches on.
"How can wealth persuade poverty to use its political freedom to keep wealth in power? Here lies the whole art of Conservative politics." Aneurin Bevan
Not even that. Ludicrously she's claiming it was a misrepresentation by the horrible mainstream media. By which she presumably means the Tory hating newspapers that ran and even lead with the story accompanied by advance quotes from the lady herself last night. That'd be the err... Telegraph and... oh Daily Mail. Erm yeah.
It’s Blue on Blue. Plenty go on to point out the bleeding obvious to Isabel, that’s she’s as much to blame. https://twitter.com/isabeloakeshott/status/1554379871291310081?s=21&t=5kvvOy3T1abhZ0OyxLzTjw
There’s nothing amusing for me in JRM’s grandstanding and gaslighting when faced with questions about Brexit or the Government’s honesty. Oakeshott is a reprehensible blowhard for sure, but the main point is that they are falling out over Brexit and this brings us closer to ridding ourselves of these stuck-up, pay school freaks and their terrible politics and self-enrichment. And before you get all sensitive about calling people ‘freaks’, imo the extent to which these people want to dominate and disadvantage others is freakish, a living class war. It’s just not cricket.
I doubt it somehow. She simply needs to keep the support of the anything for Brexit, we luv Boris Brigade who will dominate this vote. The policy may be daft, but as a gesture they lap it up. Never mind that most civil servants are not highly paid mandarins, but do more mundane Government administration and development, let’s put the hate on them! It’s like had Jeremy Corbyn suggested something mega daft, like nationalising dog ownership, supporters would have said ‘well that’s a bit mad, best shelve it, but love the word ‘nationalise’ hun’.
As aside, the hateful, Sally-Ann Hart's well-thought-views on wages for people with learning disabilities form two years ago appeared to be trending on Twitter this week - anyone know why?
No, I don't know why. She's since become a Disability Confident Employer, so that makes it alright then. It reminds me of Raaaaaaaaaab and co. book about lazy UK workers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19300051 and where was he during the Afghanistan evacuation, on a beach on holiday.
