I don't think either Safe or The Stranger were anything like brilliant TV, but I thought they were both enjoyable enough, 6/10 shows. The new one is just utter crap.

Yep, it just looks and feels like a low budget mess. Most of the acting is horrendous and it's all just a bit of a state.

I described it as an ‘ITV drama on Netflix’. Had that weird brightness and blandness about it that I usually associate with stupid crap on ITV.

That’s it. You could turn your brain off and reasonably enjoy those two.

    Could tell I was in for a bumpy ride with Stay Close as soon as the dialogue started…. Something like;

‘Hey, how’s my best friend today?’

‘I’m fine, super excited for the hen do. I can’t believe we’re getting married after all these years’

‘Well I hope you let your hair down like the good old days!’

**** off and learn how to write a script. Show don’t tell.

I do like the apprentice. They find the more egotistical look-at-me sorts each year somehow though which is a bit samey. "People tell me I'm a massive kahunt which is a compliment on my business skills" etc.

Which forum member do you think best fits the apprentice mould?

I hate to admit it but I’m one of those people who often consults IMDb before watching most things as I don’t want to commit precious time to something that is likely to be crap.

I avoided Stay Close due to that, it actually has a respectable 7/10 rating but reading the individual reviews gives you the full story. It either gets 10/10 or 1/10 with titles like “utter drivel”, which is generally a good guide to something being awful. If something is generally good the scores normally converge fairly well with each other.

Stumbled across Life In Pieces recently. US sitcom in four parts per episode. Absolutely love it, great cast and some proper laugh out loud moments. It's on Prime

Just put the new series of After Life on, if he’s still going on about his dead wife then it’s going straight off again.

If it returns, I believe Line of Duty is set to continue banging on about bent coppers too. Furious.

Slightly different situation in that bent coppers are presumably an ongoing and persistent problem, whereas for the purposes of entertainment, it is presumably possible over the course of three seasons for someone to actually get past the death of his wife. Either way it’s been fairly entertaining so far.

It can take a long time. Years and years. It would for me.

Mrs Moose could be put out for a whole month.

Of course, but that’s real life and not something designed to entertain people.

FWI although he’s still depressed about it, there is definitely a lot less of it, and a lot more of the funny interviews with the local oddballs.

Watched all of After Life, was the funniest series of the lot IMO. Thankfully that therapist didn’t feature at all as he was completely out of place in the last series.

I'm six in now and committed to see it through, but it's just lazily made.

Lots of continuity mistakes, the plot doesn't make sense and relies entirely on about 5 people, most of whom have shagged each other (though seemingly not necessarily relevant to the plot) who live in a small town and never bump into each other, unless they stalk each other. Also some average looking, middle aged people that no person of the opposite sex can resist.

And those dancing killers. Just bizarre. Not funny, clever or scary, just bizarre.

It's just bizarre that this got made, let alone that people enjoy it.

Agree with Stay Close, it's almost palatable without the dancing prats. Every time they are on screen I cringe.

Blimey, I’m really struggling with this series. There’s a thoroughly nasty tone as Gervais veers wildly from nastiness to mawkishness.

The oddballs surrounding the story are simply vehicles for Gervais’s crudity and misanthropy. Not characters, simply jokes without a punchline. It’s ok when Gervais himself is on screen, but otherwise running out of road.

    Halfway through, does it improve?

Probably not if that’s how you’re finding it so far. I view it as a comedy rather than a drama or a serious programme, hence probably why I found it funny.

Clearly a comedy/drama, but whatever, same rules apply to extended ‘jokes’ about being ‘done’ from behind. No subject off limits for comedy, for sure, but does need to be funny or warm or something you can enjoy.

Came downstairs this morning to find my wife watching After Life. Never appealed to me personally but Philomena Cunk was on the screen looking well fit. Gave it a minute before making a brew and returning to bed.

Just finished, the frankly flawless, "Station Eleven". Really, really excellent performances from everyone involved (with the exception of Lori "Will this do?" Petty unable top break out of her "kookiness" straightjacket) and a surprisingly earwormish sound-track. The final episode was a surprisingly satisfying ending unlike the grand finale of the, previously superlative, "The Expanse"...

I told a lie, just binge watched the first FIVE episodes of series two and will probably watch episode 6 which is the finale later today. Then it's on to the new series which is no 3 that I think starts later this week.

Ridiculous Amazon only giving them 6 episodes for the Babylon’s Ashes season. Pretty disgusting for a show supposedly that Jeff Bezos demanded done correctly. It was so horribly rushed and to include Laconia only to end the show was a truly weird production decision.

Really, the season desperately missed Alex and his down to earth humanity. Having two characters fill his space didn’t work and the Peaches/Amos relationship wasn’t remotely filled out enough to replicate Amos and Alex.

So horribly rushed and so much left out. A real shame.

Not sure why Amazon took it in the end, it’s barely advertised, clearly not thought of as the same as The Boys or another of their ‘originals’.

If you want a gentle diversion you may enjoy Anxious People on Netflix. This is a Swedish small city tale (Sodertalje, about 2hrs from Stockholm) of a robbery gone wrong, which in each episode focusses on the back stories of the participants.

It’s slightly fanciful, very unlikely, but warm-hearted with some excellent twists.

I'm loving Inside The Factory at the moment, even if it is just to watch the utter contempt the workers have for Gregg Wallace.

Yeah it was good. We went into expecting the Scandinavian crime drama sort we typically like, but found something very different.

I thought it was really well done.

The two teens decided to rewatch the first season of Euphoria, ahead of the second series dropping. I thought I’d watch it with them, to see what the fuss was about as it’s very popular amongst their age group. Wow. Definitely not for the faint hearted. The thing I find most alarming, and makes me sad for their generation growing up with early access to porn, is the fact that neither of my two batted an eyelid at the aspects of the show I found most disturbing and the younger teen claimed it was a “realistic” portrayal of teen life (although covered her back by saying she was alluding to a different group at her school than her own).

Just got through series 7 (so that's 84 episodes in about 3 months now). Have to say I think that was by far the best of the lot so far. So many sub plots and uncertain outcomes....and Yvonne Strahovski, just wow, bloody hell.....remembered her from one of the "24" series.

The entire premise of the show is that Gregg is bewildered by the ability of factories to make large quantities of things, which is of course their precise purpose.

That’s a mountain of sausage rolls!
