Thoroughly enjoying S2 of The Witcher. The linear timeline should make it a far easier watch for most than the first half of S1 was

    Some excellent beastie special effects.

Finished S2 of The Sopranos last night.

Sheer perfection. Hands down the best TV show I’ve ever seen and I’m only 40% of the way through.

Appears that Philomena Cunk has had to change her name for IP issues to crack the US market:

Do you need to watch the other series or can I bang straight into the new?

I would definitely watch the original series or there's a lot you won't get, and you won't enjoy the new one as much as you could because of it.

1-4 are brilliant and well worth watching anyway. Series 5-8 are still good in places but a noticeable drop in quality compared to the first four.

From what I remember season 7 is good actually. I'd say season 5 is probably my least favourite of the original final four.

The thing is even the weakest seasons probably still scrape a 7/10 overall. It's all pretty good. They just don't all reach the heights of the first four which are brilliant TV.

Blitzed season 3 of Succession over the course of yesterday and today. Perhaps not quite as good as the previous two seasons (maybe missing some of the real drama like the waiter storyline?) but the fact I could finish it in basically a day shows it’s still exceptional. Greg had me in stitches several times.

Fantastic news that a new series of Toast of London is coming in the new year. Hopefully the move to the BBC won't do too much damage.

Started watching Succession but wasn't quite sure if it was my thing. Now 9 episodes in and I'm hooked.

The characters are so unlikeable and likeable at the same time.

Does it take nine episodes? I’ve done two without warming to it, but I note the love and will keep going.

It took me 3/4 but then it ended up being one of my favourite shows of all time.

The casting is phenomenal, but until you actually get to know the characters you can’t really enjoy it, because that’s where the enjoyment comes from. IMO that takes about 3/4 episodes but will obviously vary.

Edited to add: The final episode of season 3 has a 9.9 rating on IMDb, which is mental.

First three episodes are in the 7s on IMDb, then after that there isn’t an episode ranked lower than an 8 for the entire 3 seasons, which demonstrates the theory.

The Tourist, a new series on BBC1. Just for the first 10 minutes of episode 1 alone it's worth watching. I can only hope they keep up the fantastic start as it progresses.

Just finished watching it - The plot twists never stop.

Really good though takes a bit of a dip around episodes 4 and 5, before coming right back.

Just started watching The Tourist also, I have one slightly pedantic issue with the start….

A car could easily out manoeuvre a big HGV like that, that chase wasn’t in way shape or form realistic

Stay close was an absolute pile of ****. Dancing serial killers whatever next??
The tourist was ok I suppose but still got on my ****. I just wanted to climb through the TV and headbutt that ***** Ethan.
But I would highly recommend the shrink nextdoor, Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd were superb an excellent story that is heart wrenching to believe it actually happened.
Got four lives and Anne lined up for the weekend.

Have been a bit wary of mentioning Anne on here as I know there is deep rooted hatred from many against Liverpool, but I thought it was outstanding.

Watched 3 eps last night of something that's been sat on my HDD for a while: Station Eleven. Now its blurb on metacritic wasn't very promising:

But, the first two episodes were astonishing bits of televisual story-telling (the third less so but still good) with Mackenzie Davis giving an absolutely amazing performance. I've broken my rule of 4eps before commenting on a series but this is soooooooo good.

The Tourist is very enjoyable, but I also have an issue.

His memory loss is so profound, yet it doesn’t affect personality or his moral sense or his physical ability. In fact his memory loss is ‘perfect’ with few snatches of recall. As memory is dispersed through the brain it would be quite a traumatic hit to take it all out and would doubtless affect other functions. It’s a hokey plot device.

I loved Stay Close, two episodes to go, especially the two dancing killers. The woman has the same psychotic look that Jodie Come portrayed so well in Killing Eve. It's an excellent book as well, as are many of Harlen Cobens books

Agree, also as another example when he was eating a burrito and the police lady explains it means little donkey or whatever, and then he says “I’m not eating a donkey am I” I don’t recall him encountering a donkey at any point? But he knows what one is, yet at the same time he doesn’t know who Simon and Garfunkel or the spice girls are

I dare say his books are decent but the adaptation to TV for me hasn't worked. I won't mention anything else until you've finished incase of ruining it for you. But imo far too stretched out, massive holes in the story and a weak cast.

Still a good watch today. Whole series is on the channel in the link. The second series Chockys Children was good also. I am not going to comment on the third series Chockys Challenge......
Ripe for a remake as it is such a good sci-fi story.

The Tripods. Very few eps online (I imagine the BBC police this one very closely because DVD sales were 'strong') but a Canuck (who judging by his home background has "...a.very full and pressing social calender...") gives a good summary of the series.

The first one is good, frightening and, amazingly, still stands-up well today. The 2nd really suffers from a lack of decent, by today's standards, SFX (especially for "The City of Gold (and Lead)") but is still very watchable.

I think 'Who' is going to have a break for a couple years - this would be an ideal replacement. The could 'test' it by showing the first series and remake "The City..." and finally add the "Poll of Fire". There's also a fairly good prequel "When The Tripods Came".
