Some of the events weren't what you'd normally see at a heptathlon, so I don't think this multi-event competition was canon tbf!

Still don't understand our method here. Offer a contract extension, it's rejected, as is his right, so we plan to replace him next season.

Our desperation to squeeze 5m out of him, rather than use him whilst he's here is pure Pozzo. Players run down their contracts all the time. It's their right. Pozzo doesn't have a divine right to have every player signed to a 5 year deal, no matter their age or usefulness.

Depends on whether he can still be arsed, Capoue wasn't really last season when he was linked with a move, and he is far more talented than Hughes ever will be, a half-arsed Hughes is no use to anyone

 

Why would he have been less arsed than he has been with us hitherto, just because he was on his final year?

Capoue was a noted bad egg, with talent. Hughes is nothing like him, to my mind.

 

There's no way of knowing tbf, and Hughes may be a fantastic egg, but how do we know he wouldn't subconsciously not put his all into it? FWIW, I seem to recall someone was at the U23 friendly at St Albans, and they said that Hughes wasn't putting everything into it (pre-season friendly with the U23s against a local non-league team I know, but still, it might be an indication)

 

Yep it’s just usual Pozzo nonsense. He won’t do what I want to I’ll stick him in youth team. As you say players run down contracts often. Wijnaldum played 38 times for Liverpool last year. But Pozzo has to be childish.

 

Oh come on. He’s been stuck in the U23s by then. Of course he has realised that Pozzo is an idiot and has now downed tools.

 

If he’s agreed terms with another club and just waiting for clubs to agree fee there’s not much point in integrating him into the wider squad.

By the end of next week he will be integrated back into the squad again.

 

He wouldn’t be a bad shout for West Ham, not as a first teamer obviously, but they’ve got the Europa league to contend with and apparently have £45m to spend. Considering they took Dawson and he’s now a first teamer Hughes could be a half decent squad player for them.

 

Isn't Noble leaving/retrining after this season? And I imagine Rice will be moving within the next 12 months too.

Apparently there is. As Cleverley looks to be next in line as the boo boy of choice I've seen people say there was nothing wrong with the pass and it was therefore down to Cleverley alone. Bafflingly stupid.

Bit odd. On the one hand the two clubs are actively negotiating. On the other, there is a supposed valuation gap of £10m. This is all the more remarkable considering I’d have thought we’re seeking £10m. Have Palace offered 0? Or have they offered £5m and we’ve quoted them £15m? Or have sky got their wires crossed a little and did they mean to say “there is a gap between the clubs’ valuation of the players with Watford seeking £10m.”

 

Whatever you say about Leventhal, his former Sky colleagues make him look like Nostradamus when it comes to transfers, and they also make him look like Shakespeare when it comes to the English language!

 

For such a major sports broadcaster Sky are woeful with their transfer information. I assume half the time the stuff they come up with is to get people throwing money at SkyBet.

I suspect this is just an interpretation error between those two loveable clowns. I love them. Between transfer windows I’m happy to employ them to give a morning briefing as to how my day might go.

 

My favourite thing is when one of them looks and their phone and claims ‘they have literally just had a message’ from someone working on the ‘Ronaldo/Mbappe deal’ etc etc - somehow implying that an agent involved thinks they must text Kaveh Solhekol all about it before it leaks anywhere else.

 

I'll be really disappointed if Hughes stays, I was looking forward to a sexy foreigner joining.
