I’m far less concerned about CB than some of our fans, simply because we already have that big step change upgrade in Sierralta vs our last campaign. Kabasele and Cathcart is better back up than many of our rivals have.
Well Betis’ main media outlet has tweeted this. Considering they were favourites to sign him, and according to reports had everything agreed with the player to sign him before we came in.
This is translation of the article, says we offered 7 mill against and asking price of 8-9 mill... Antonio Cordón, sports director of Real Betis Balompié, has closed the incorporation of Argentine Germán Pezzella as a reinforcement for the axis of Pellegrini's rear. A return, that of the albiceleste, which serves to fill the void left by Mandi, who went free to Villarreal. With this movement, Betis closed the defense axis, waiting to be able to give way to another central, as is the case of Sidnei. A movement for which the profile of a young defender with projection would be sought. Hence, the Brazilian Lyanco, on Cordón's list to reinforce the rear, has taken another path towards the Premier. As reported by the Italian journalist Nicolò Schira, the defender is in league with Watford. The idea is that he leaves Torino in exchange for 8-9 million euros, while the English have only reached 7 kilos to date. Along with Waford, Bologna has also shown their interest. The performance of the Serbo-Brazilian in these years does not push him to reach such figures, hence Betis settled the negotiations by offering six kilos.
As I’ve mentioned before, if Sierralta plays for Chile during the next two international breaks, we face losing him for four matches, two each time.
I would tend to agree, but there is definitely more than one way to get better. Having CBs with pace that can pass can help mitigate not having midfielders that can one touch turn and drive forward. It also could strengthen us if we needed to play a back 3 with wing backs. I think we'd all agree that most of our FBs are better suited as WBs. All that aside, being strong down the spine is critical. Although to your original point, I did try and see if this bloke had ever played as a FB. I couldn't find anything.
I mean I have literally no idea who other teams have as back up CBs but they’re both decent players who I wouldn’t want starting week in week out. Which they’re not, so I’m fine with it. A young talented CB would be a great acquisition but I’m not losing any sleep if we stick with what we have.
Wait - so they are better than what our rivals have despite you having no idea who are rivals have? And you wouldn’t want them starting week in-week out - yet we are an injury away from that. And over a 38 game season, that’s very possible. Which is the point being made.
I summise they are good back up based on what I’ve seen. But I agree with your point that injuries to first choice players could weaken us.
I hope Pellegrini's rear axis problems are not serious. And typical Gino....Torino want minimum 8 million Euros & he offers a big sack of polenta.
Udinese defender Becao is in the sights of Toro and would be that long-awaited defender from Juric. There could be an exchange, the one with Lyanco. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the negotiations are already at an advanced stage, even if the question of signings by the two players has to be resolved. However, the companies are confident that the negotiations will be successful. Looking promising.
Udinese are signing Nehuen Perez from Atletico Madrid on loan - so I wouldn't assume Lyanco is part of this.
Not sure where the Udinese CB 'roster' is at, but if they already signing Perez it may imply that they have no use for Lyanco other than to lend/swap to us probably for Success, which ironically would be his first for the club, success that is.
could be right https://twitter.com/DiMarzio/status/1428707460483854347 #Lyanco greets the @TorinoFC_1906, there is an agreement with the @SouthamptonFC for its sale
€7m fee, so a bit less than was reported when we were linked a few days ago. I guess Leventhal’s right and we are inexplicably content with Sierralata, Troost-Ekong, Cathcart and Kabasele as our only options all season. Even though WTE is away for AFCON for a few games. If Sierralta gets injured we’re in serious trouble.
