Of course. I due to my own ethnic background have certainly experienced a lot of prejudice despite being/appearing white. But generally the taking of the knee is understood to be a gesture regarding anti-black racism so I still think that white teammates should try and take cues from their black teammates and their teammates as as a group if possible.

But I think the likeliest thing is that Kucka just didn’t get the memo.

Fortunately there is nothing about his terrifying tattooed appearance to cause any alarm.

    Oooooh. Temper.

Can we presume you are right behind it then and not getting left behind with the Government that couldn’t bring itself to support players who take the knee?

Perhaps Kucka didn't 'take the knee' because he doesn't want to express support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Definitely my new favourite player

I know footballers are meant to be thick, but surely we haven’t signed a player who is that much of an idiot.

His age was never an issue for me. It’s a slight red herring.

The last two seasons have seen him start 54 league matches, 28 last campaign.

He also played in several international matches in that time.

Only one of our other summer signings, Louza, played more times than he did last season.

Now we are in the PL, he won’t have to play three games in a week. I can’t see him playing in the cups, and without being too pessimistic I imagine he will probably get a week off due to suspension with five yellow cards at some point before Christmas.

Not a sleight at all on Danny Rose, who I was equally happy we signed, but the much older Kucka has played a lot more matches in the past two years and it’s that experience that we’ve signed.

He’s also two years younger than a certain wing back who many people were happy to think was making an emotional return to us!

    Certainly no old crock!

If not supporting BLM was his motivation we are fortunate indeed to have a player who understands the significance of the gesture and hasn't been taken in by the EPL's desperate pr spin. Hopefully over time he can educate his new team mates

Am I the only one that thinks he doesn't really look any different to most footballers? Where has this 'he's so scary, a bit of a nutter' thing come from? Looks like Almen Abdi with a few tattoos and diamond stud earrings to me!

Yes, you are probably the only one. And as he’s probably worked at least a bit on his panto image, I’d imagine you’d disappoint him. His tats are a statement that’s for sure.

Off the pitch he’s doubtless a gentle soul, but we want him to be a nutter on it because we want footballers who are ready to fight for the team and scare Citeh’s fancy dans.

The Premier League seem happy to go along with it, but the taking of the knee was first suggested by the players, many of whom know considerably more about racism than your average WFC Forums poster. At the end of the day, it is a token gesture, in and of itself it doesn't do anything to combat racism, but most people who are against it never seem to have a good reason for it, and you can bet your bottom dollar they don't have any ideas on how to stop racism!

Exactly. It’s the players’ way of saying “racism is still an issue in this country - and we believe this needs to be addressed”.

To dismiss this as ‘Marxist’ or any other similar nonsense and condemn (or boo) them for doing it is wilful ignorance at best and racism at worst. Nobody has any right to tell them what their own experiences are and nobody has the right to tell them they’re not allowed to make a stand and ask for positive change.

Ironically the gesture that is supposed to unify everyone, has caused the biggest divide among the fans.

And why is that? There are a lot of people who happily ignore or play down racism, yet get all up in arms about what is essentially a harmless gesture! The absolute brass neck on some people to talk down people trying to raise important issues that they themselves will never experience!

It wasn’t a comment to take seriously. The most likely suggestion is he missed the memo. We know next to nothing about him and he’s an exciting signing.

If it turns out he doesn’t want to do it, that’s up to him. If, consequently, he becomes a poster boy for idiots, that will be up to others.

  29. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

As soon as we have a situation where half a team kneel and the other half don’t, it completely loses its effectiveness and asks more questions than it answers. Time to drop it I think. It can’t continue forever and now is a good time to stop it.

No one on here has said that players should not take the knee, and as far as I know, neither Kucka nor Toney have said that either, they have just chosen not to join in and therefore stand meekly by, and Toney has given his perfectly reasonable reason when asked.. I have not seen anybody "up in arms" and nobody having the "absolute brass neck" and talking down to people, or ignoring racism.

But from the other side, people like yourself are throwing the insults around and idiotic Watford fans on here are suggesting that our player is a racist when, as far as we know, he does not have a racist bone in his body - merely because he didn't kneel down.

It is a disgraceful way to behave, is decisive, and if the nasty accusation gets repeated across social media, can be reckless and damaging to our player and his family.

No one has suggested he is racist you plum. Get off your high horse. If you think my comment with a picture of Alan Partridge was, then you’ve clearly had a sense of humour bypass.

  32. zztop

    zztop Eurovision Winner 2015

    I
It took you just one post to suggest exactly that.

Yes, I know you like to throw the same accusation around these threads, claiming that you don't mean it, but making the accusations just the same. But it isn't good enough.

The fact that it was a tongue in cheek comment makes no difference when on the receiving end. It was a reckless and nasty accusation.

...I hope that the mods delete the posts from #435 onwards.

I didn't see the game except the highlights, but it sounds like this fella is alright.

I shall look forward to seeing him in the next game. Oh and black shorts and pro taking the knee.

I think that's probably up to the players to decide that for themselves, no?
