Really hope old Juraj doesn't pop on here to see how the fans were reacting to his first performance and start reading these interminable last few pages.

Anyway, given he's been signed, shouldn't this thread be locked?

Not being argumentative but isn’t racism at uk football rare these days? Maybe I am not at the stands/grounds involved but I cant remember hearing a racist comment in about a decade. And if it happened I’d imagine there would be about 50 people supplying seat number so people can be banned (including myself). Different story in Europe of course.

I was under the impression players were offering a wider anti racism sentiment than uk football?

This is going round in circles. I think I've made my thinking on this pretty clear. You think I'm wrong. I get it. I don't have any problem with people that disagree with me - which is just as well! Let's leave it at that

No, it was a joke. But you came close earlier.

    Aha!

Yes, you are right. It’s more about social media and the wider context.

If anyone seriously kicked off at the ground even most of the BLM sceptics would tell them to zip it. In that respect I completely get that most people who are against it are not pro-racism.

Yes fair point on social media. That still appears to be a cesspit when people are anonymous.

Not as rare as you would hope, unfortunately. And even if it’s only a handful of people it’s still worth trying to highlight so they can be educated.

And yes, I think they are making a wider societal message, but you only have to look at the comments on the social media post of any high-profile footballer (especially after a loss) to see they’re still being subjected to it. I think that’s a good barometer for the extent of the progress that still needs to be made.

Looking at your efforts it’s easy to see why, like #485.

I'm sure Lloyd will answer for himself, but he's not the only one that has a problem with this.

Personally I don't agree with politics in football, whatsoever!

My problem is that there are, without doubt, players that feel uncomfortable taking the knee but feel they have to do so otherwise they're portrayed as racist! You can't tell me that every player that takes the knee is happy to do so?

Lyle Taylor (think he plays for Forest), got it absolutely spot on. The BLM are a marxist extremist movement and DON'T hold opinion for every black person in the world!

Nothing wrong with stamping racism out of football and society generally, I advocate that as much as the next person, but if everyone thinks kneeling for 5 seconds before kick-off is going to stamp racism out is absolutely deluded beyond belief! Sadly it will take many many years to eradicate from society (if ever) and is a educational piece for our younger generation to understand that racism is abhorrent.

See, I don’t have a problem with most of what you’ve said, but there you go bringing the BLM organisation in to it again. The players aren’t kneeling for that. Funnily most of these multi-millionaires are not particularly inspired by Das Kapital.

And the gesture itself won’t “stamp out” racism, of course not. The point is it inspires discussion. I think there’s a perception that racism is only an issue in Eastern Europe or in the US but that isn’t the case. We have to accept there are issues here and we all need to support the players who are sending this message as that’s the first step in confronting the racial barriers that exist. Diluting or obfuscating their message is symptomatic of a society that’s not ready to confront its failures.

Anyway, he had a very good debut, his departure in the last quarter of the match saw AV get back into the game.Looking forward to him being equally effective at Brighton. Don’t think Hughes would have had the same impact. Agree Gosling needs to do a lot better. Showed the top level pedigree we need to mould with the younger les experienced players to achieve 11 more wins this season.

Absolutely genuinely laughably hilarious that anyone is still suggesting that any millionaire dilettante footballers are taking the knee to promote a radical Marxist agenda. Honestly, one of the funniest and dumbest/most disingenuous suggestions it's possible to make. It's too much, really.

    'Without doubt'

Er, why? Do you have evidence of this?

    Because I doubt you do.

P S. And racism isn't 'political'. It's about fairness and justice. While it exists in and around football, not just regards racist abuse, I'll support anyone peacefully highlighting the issue.

I have a question for you. Why do they take the knee? What inspired footballers to do this?

Do I have evidence for not all player's wanting to take the knee? No, of course not, I can’t sit here and say I do, that would be disingenuous, BUT by law of averages I would say a lot of players don’t agree with it and only do take the knee out of fear of being unfairly labelled a racist. Surely you’re not that deluded to not see that is a genuine issue??

I don’t think half of them know why they’re doing it. That’s the issue….

The message was powerful first time around, fair enough, but now it’s lost it’s meaning!

How patronising. Why do you presume to know the meaning that taking the knee has to these black footballers?

The message may have lost its meaning to you, but you don't speak for everyone.

  24. Burnsy

Why do you think that? I’d love to see any evidence whatsoever of a player saying they are doing it but they don’t know why. Or are you suggesting that every single one of the 50% you claim are totally subservient and incapable of speaking out?

Is it really the issue? Or is it just one people opposed to it are conjuring up in their minds?

It’s genuinely crazy to me that people have an issue with players taking the knee. Even more mental that people boo it. Please please read a book and raise your IQ from 1 to at least 2
