Rotherham as well, we've been crying out for someone who can put a ball in for our tall players to attack. Sarr's rocket against Reading, he was under no pressure, but he at least played the right weight of ball which I'm sure other players would have ****ed up on. Good point that he came in when everything was looking up for us, and he is a bit lightweight, but I'd keep him as a squad member, he'll get enough games here or there as an attacking mid and out wide
Matheus Pereira is being frozen out at WBA according to The Athletic and new boss Ismael has no plans to use him unless he’s committed to them - which they say he isn’t. Hasn’t played in their 2 games so far and he and Ismael have an agreement he won’t feature at all whilst he seeks a move. Sticking point? WBA want £25m for him. However, the article does say they may be prepared to loan him out for a loan fee.
Pozzos do love a loan fee. Loan with option/obligation to buy should we not be relegated and they not get promoted could work. Or maybe just a dry loan with WBA hoping that will enhance his value and they’ll sell for more in a non-depressed market. Surely - contrary to that report - they would prefer cash, getting relegated in this environment. Would be surprised if they get more than £20m in this market though.
Can’t see us agreeing to any sort of obligation to buy. We could stay up and he could be average (or worse) - and we’d still be into it for £20m+ for a player we might not want to keep. Also doubt we would pay much by way of a loan fee to be honest.
Mouth of the Tyne @ToonMouthTyne · 6m Watford and Southampton both in for Shelvey. Wants to move back South for family reasons. Don't be suprised if he moves on in next couple of weeks. #NUFC Seems we're in for Shelvey.
Just looked at the replies on Twitter over this from the moaning Geordies. They all want him gone and are pleading for it to happen. Normally I'd take that as a sign to steer clear, but I always make an exception when it's Newcastle. Worst set of fans in England (yes even worse than West Ham) for slagging off their own players. I'd happily take Shelvey. He could even live at the Harry Potter studio to make himself feel at home. Mouth of the Tyne on Twitter: "Watford and Southampton both in for Shelvey. Weren't we supposed to be signing Hayden not too long ago for similar reasons? Anyway, straight swap for Hughes? Didn't realise Shelvey was already 29, but he'd still improve us.
Some players arrive at a new club and hit the ground running, some can take a while to find their top form and have a far better second season. Given that PZ can't be on massive wages,
I was at the game at St James's Park in 2017 when we won three nil. Benitez was their manager and he played Shelvey in an extremely deep role where he was utterly wasted. He just received the ball from the back four and moved it on; much less dynamic than Hughes was for us last season. I suspect he was itching to play further forward but was in a bit of a sulk because Benitez wouldn't let him. I think he's an excellent passer but his attitude is a bit suspect.
Shelvey is a red card waiting to happen every game. When he’s on it, he’s good. Wouldn’t pay more than £5mil for him though. He would be a big risk.
Ah yeah, the game where he needlessly put Britos on the shelf after which we and Silva never really recovered. I'll happily boo the little ***** when we spunk millions on another past-it never was.
Can't see it happening because Newcastle will surely be wanting £10m+ for him at least. Decent player but a bit of a ******* and I can think of better players to spend that kind of money on.
All this talk of PZ not cutting it in the prem, what’s this based on ? Half a season in the championship 20 games. He’s moved to a different country league etc had to adapt his game to chump cloggers. He comes across as a model pro by all accounts analyzes his games over and over seems to of improved as the games went on. I believe he deserves an opportunity in the prem. He may well be out his depth but to write him off so soon would be a mistake for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
WTE and PZ as squad members and given the chance, I’m not saying we don’t need improvements on either player but let’s not give up on them after such a limited period. More so PZ as it’s his first time really playing abroad. I see comments on social media to Shelvey. Apparently wants to move back south for family us and Southampton suggested. Capoue replacement? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No, I'm just japing, personally I agree most about PZ - that we should keep him about for the squad, especially as he's capable of playing in more than one position and is one of the vanishingly few players we've had in the past few years who have shown any evidence at all of attacking guile. WTE as a squad player is fine enough too. As a squad player.
Shelvey has his moments when he turns up, lots of experience. Is he an upgrade on what we have? Probably some his passing ability is normally very good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, a mixture of questionable mentality, age, and actual level of theoretical upgrade give me trepidation.
Shelvey not even in Newcastle’s squad against Doncaster. Cukur started for Doncaster and was subbed not long ago. According to Doncaster fans he done well overall.
I think there was talk earlier in the window that he was trying to orchestrate a move for Toure to here.
With Masina out injured for goodness knows how long, we should go for Brandon Williams on loan. Man Utd want to loan him out, so it would make sense. Masina won’t kick a ball until October at the earliest. Can’t go into the season with just one senior LB in Rose.
Better than having no cover at all. In the 19/20 season where he played over 1000mins in the Prem for Man Utd, he was very good. Didn’t do much last season. Utd want to loan him and if reports are to be believed they want a £2mil loan fee. We’re the kings of loan fees. £15mil for Armstrong is stupid. He’s not needed. As I stated, if we can offer a deal of £15mil (which I don’t believe we can and pretty confident the report is ********), then use that money elsewhere. Panzo £4-5mil Williams £2mil loan fee (if reports are true) Give Hughes’ agent a £500k signing on bonus Thorsby or someone of that calibre £6-7mil All that for the cost of Armstrong. Yes I know we will be paying wages for the above, and yes I know it’s not FIFA/FM, but you get the point.
Utd will want to loan him out to somewhere he'd get regular game time, he's 3rd choice full back there and he'll probably end up 3rd choice here. After our strange decision to bring in Garner, who was never going to be good enough and so ended up on the bench, it would be foolish for all involved to do the same again with Williams, and Utd would prob never loan us a player again after it.
On the basis of everything I have seen Williams is a championship quality player at best. If he wasn't at United noone would really even know who he is. If Masina's injury is serious then Doig seems a no brainer (provided we have the funds).
Think the most useful thing about Brandon Williams is that he can play both sides, but there are better options out there
