Everton want to sell him, we've tried to sign him before, he's a perma-crock, and we're still lacking in central midfield - the link isn't surprising.

Delph is a quality player.......or at least would be an upgrade for us. Mind you, the guy who posted this is called pablo escobar, so I'm not so sure he's that reliable.

Delph would tally with what Giaretta has said we are looking for.

He is not very good but cheap and available.

    He ticks all the boxes.

Also fits the mold of young, hungry players who aren't over the hill (like Rose and King etc) which Duxbury said we are targeting after making the mistake of signing Welbeck previously.

If you're claiming those players do not experience hunger, then I have a bone to pick with you.

Besides, if that is the case, this is the perfect place for them to be - studying and learning alongside Troy, he will get them up to speed in that department very quickly indeed.

He’s more than good enough for us - if he can stay fit. But that seems to be a major problem with him.

Would only be surpassed if we signed one our young Gooners.

Is he really? I'd rather play what we have than go down that road.

Yes, in my opinion, he is. He’s better than Gosling and probably Cleverley as well. Also has leadership qualities and can fill a couple of places in the side.

I’d be concerned about his injuries. And I’d want better if there was a bigger budget - but I don’t think there is, so I think he’d be an adequate signing.

Yeah I like him, good player. Sounds like Etebo looked very good at the base of midfield yesterday but I'd use him further forward personally, especially if we get Yokuslu.

It’s a definite yes from me, but as mentioned it’s from a Turkish publication.

He was more than good enough for us, but he has barely played for two season now and has spent most of that time ruled out with muscle injuries.

If we are losing Hughes and/or Chalobah, we need to bring in a player both (1) with the quality to get into our starting 11 and (2) who will be able to play most matches this season.

Whether he is still good enough to meet the first criteria is impossible to know, but he is almost certainly not going to meet the second.

This would be exactly like us bringing in Welbeck. When 100% fit he is an improvement on what we have, but he cost a fortune on wages and was only at 100% for 1/4 of the season.

Yes I know - my point is that I am concerned at his age that 2 years worth of injuries may well have taken their toll.

His injury record combined with the general lack of game time over the last 2 years just makes him an enormous gamble in an area we really need to get right.

We took a risk with Welbeck and it backfired on us, surely the club won't do the same with Delph. It's one thing signing older players but older players with such a horrendous injury record is absolute madness with the small budget we have to work with. We can't afford to pay someone to be sitting in the stands for most of the season.

Etebo + Yokunslu should be a solid enough midfield. Still not sure who'd take the more advanced role though, Thorsby?

Out of all our midfielders I'd prefer Louza to be closer to the opposition's goal as he looks a bit more creative. It'll probably be Gosling though.

Palace signing Joachim Anderson for 23m apparently.

Lots of money but he's a great signing for them. I thought they might have fallen apart this season given their huge amount of outgoings - but they have made some smart signings to replace them so far.

    Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but he’s 31.

I’m not against it as a signing, but he’s virtually the exact opposite of what Duxbury described, and massively injury prone as well.

None of the players they really wanted to keep have actually left. Most of them were high earning, ageing players on the way down or surplus squad players. The exact kind of deadwood ***** that we hand out 5 year contracts to and then struggle to shift.

Anderson, Guehi, Olise and reportedly Gallaghar. They are still very light up top, but I think they are more likely to be mid table than in the mix down the bottom.

I think he would be a trainwreck of a signing.

In terms of the squad they’re building sure, but remember Vieira is manager. Big job on his hands.

Andersen and Gallagher both got relegated last season, and Guehi and Olise were both in the Champ.

I do really like Andersen, Olise and Guehi as prospects (not convinced by Gallagher), but the squad they're putting together still looks like one that should be towards the bottom of the table, even if they will most likely survive.

Losing Hodgson will have also been a massive blow for them, he's been working miracles. There's a chance Vieira could be a complete flop and leave them in the relegation spots before being sacked at Christmas, with them then finding someone else to lift them out of it.

I'd tend to agree. They will be in a brilliant position if they survive this year, with all their prospects given experience, but they will probably struggle this year.

Fulham were relegated in spite of Anderson rather than because of him. Their defensive record after his arrival was very good - not sure you can really blame a centre back for the fact that your forwards are absolute pish.

I'd probably have Olise and Guehi in my championship best 11. Its always a gamble that they will step up, but you could say the same about much of our squad and Norwich and Brentford's. I would far rather have Olise than Gosling or Cleverly and I'd far rather have Guehi than WTE.

I have question marks about Gallaghar as well, but again, I'd probably rather have him than Cleverly and Gosling.

Yeah - Viera is a big question mark aside. One decent season aside, most of his career has not been great so far.

  31. lowerrous

I agree, but by that same token it still is far from a guarantee that they will instantly all be mid-table PL quality players next season.

I reckon Olise and Guehi definitely do have it in them to be, but they're still fairly young. Plus for every Watkins or Bowen there's a Brewster and Benrahma.

Andersen seems a very determined defender, but still appears the type to always have an error in him from the few times I've seen him. Similar to Kabasele in that he can look classy for 99% of a match then get easily nutmegged for a goal.

Unless Clevs and Gosling suddenly lose their legs completely next season I'm not sure.

PS it's Andersen, Vieira and Gallagher.

  32. barely1egal

For sure - but every club in the bottom half has to take gambles. I think Olise in particular, for the price they paid for him, seems a very low risk high reward signing.

Maybe a tiny bit harsh on Cleverley but I think Gosling already looks a bit that way to be honest. Has a decent knack of getting on the end of things, but he doesnt actually score many and I dont think he offers a lot on or off the ball.

I tend to pick the names up from watching so I only know them phonetically. Can't be arsed googling and memorising every single player in every league.

  33. lowerrous

I agree with that, but it also doesn't mean he's ready to fire them to mid-table already next season either.

Andersen, Gallagher and Vieira all played regularly in the Premier League - it's hardly "every league". They would have also been spelled correctly on this forum before as well.

"Gallaghar" with two 'a' s is hardly even a name anywhere anyway.

Usually I wouldn't mind letting the odd minor error slide on here, especially if it were for a lesser known player, and apologies if you have dyslexia or something, but so many errors in one post with fairly established PL players had to be done.

I could have also pointed out the other mistake with one of our own players ("Cleverly" missing the second 'e' but didn't bother). He's certainly not a random player from another league though either. Still, at least judging by your last post you've realised this yourself and posted it accurately the next time.

I think there is a lot of pretty poor sides from 10th down. I think Guehi + Andersen is a very good centre back partnership and I think Zaha, Eze and Olise has a lot of potential on the counter attack. Doesnt mean it will happen by any means, but they look to be building a decent side.

I work in a job where I have to pay a great deal of attention to the accuracy what I write. Without trying to sound argumentative - I just don't really care for spelling / grammar pedantry in colloquial conversation. Provided the person has no difficulty in understanding what you are saying, I just don't really understand what people gain by correcting minor errors. With the exception of Gallagher, they are both foreign names and in Andersen's case there are some countries that spell it Anderson and some that spell it Anderson. The original post I replied to called him Anderson so I am by no means unique.

Cleverley is because my phone autocorrects it to the adverb whereas my computer does not.
