I normally find FTRE far too ‘Clappers/COG’ - but I admit I listen to most of them purely because it’s some sort of coverage of the club and something of interest that’s not yet known might get said.

That said - this weeks episode is COG on steroids. And then they back that up in their comments on Twitter to valid questions and points out to them.

The first few minutes where they pander to Duxbury and his interview is especially true excruciating listening.

One of them said ‘we know Troy Deeney can be amazing’ - ignoring the fact he hasn’t been anywhere near that for years.

Swap the "10-15" to "20-25" and i could well believe he said that.

Why are people even comparing sides from different countries? I was addicted to watching Bodo last season they were nothing short of a joy to watch. But the front three for them just clicked and it's highly unlikely that it will ever happen again. They Bodo just went for it every game the way I love to see football being played. But the Norwegian top flight football is horrendous and looks like it's getting worse.

Our transfer dealings are poor. We just seem to be taking anyone.
I might just dust off my white Jomo kangeroo skinned boots and see if l can get a game
I worry that the club is slready looking at the Parachute money for season 2022/23.
    We look relegation fodder

Norwich in 'advanced talks' to sell Todd Cantwell to Villa if rumours are to be believed on twitter.

Norwich seem to be doing the opposite of strengthening for the PL. In fact they are getting weaker than they were last time around when they got battered.

Thought they'd be in a position to make a real fist of survival given they're a lot more financially secure than us, wonder what their fans are making of this, at least there's a reason we're scrimping

He's out of contract next summer apparently and won't sign a new deal. Sounds familiar.....

I've seen people on here say we should just let Hughes run down his deal here just so we can keep him this season, and we're nowhere near as cushty as them, if I were Norwich, that would be a no-brainer for me given they just sold Buendia for £36m!

  11. Burnsy

I’m always wary of that choice though - sure Hughes is a decent guy and comes across as professional. But any coach worth his salt will want committed players and even those they can build around. If Hughes is refusing to sign, to me that shows his mind is elsewhere. And we will most likely have crucial games down the bone stretch of the season - will he be giving his all to keep us up? Or will he subconsciously be protecting himself for his free transfer and trying not to get injured etc?

I think it needs to be nailed down. If there’s an inclination that he’s willing to come to an agreement, then continue talks but set a deadline for an agreement. But if he won’t sign, then just demand he tells us that and move him on IMO.

Based on our business so far, i'd be pleasantly surprised if we stay up

Could really do with 3 other PL teams having a terrible season like last year

With our current squad I don't think there is a chance in hell we stay up. But feel like we are prepared for that this time.

I'm foolishly beginning to believe we might scrape 17th, but deep down, I'd be OK with going down and rebuilding to come back up again and make a serious go of it in 2023

I get that, but aren't Norwich in a better position than us to tell their players to do one? They don't need the money, but they do need players like Cantwell who are decent at this level

I actually feel quietly confident about staying up. I have no real logical reasoning as to why, but I do just have a feeling we might surprise a few people.

Depends what they do with the money. Could buy in some pretty good replacements but let's see. Always thought Cantwell was over-rated just because of his beautiful hair.

Problem for them is that they were already up against it to stay up with a team of diddy players who play nice football, but who are ultimately fairly easy to play against (even for a team like us). Now they've sold Buendia (a very good player) and look to be selling Cantwell (a slightly overhyped player, but still decent at PL level), they're really gonna have to pull rabbits out of the hat to stand a chance of staying up

Brentford are reportedly on the verge of a deal for Myles Peart-Harris, 18, the midfielder who scored 18 goals for Chelsea youth teams last season. Could we steal this?

  24. Burnsy

The deal to take Ajer to Brentford apparently could reach £20m. Don’t think he’s worth that.

That’s also a huge amount for a club whose manager stated they wouldn’t change the way they operate in the market!

I don't remember so much about Peart-Harris, but it also seems as if Brighton might nick Livramento from Chelsea - that would be a big coup, he's an excellent prospect.

We still have time to make some signings before the predictions thread! I love what we've done with the attack. I just don't see how that defence can stay up. Midfield will be fine with one more addition and no one leaving.

Keep Hughes or adequately replace him then I think we might just stay up. My fear is that we stick Etebo or Chalobah there and it won't work. I like the starting defence, but I fear a couple of the usual injuries and we're sticking Mattie Pollock in there.

  33. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

I just can’t believe the club have Pollock in mind for anything other than a watching brief this season. He may have promise but the jump is absolutely massive from where he’s come from and even Grimsby fans weren’t raving about him. Wilmot was far higher rated and still had 6 months at Udinese and a season at Swansea before he was deemed a contender for a squad spot. Pollock is nowhere near that in terms of experience.

I still think we desperately need a quality centre-back to add to the ranks. We need 3 CB’s (at least) that we would feel comfortable playing 30+ games a season - if we get to a situation where we are asking Cathcart or Kabasele to do that, I think we will be bang in trouble.

Fausto Vera. Well rounded and educated player. Developing at a rate of knots and is very responsible in front of the defence and uses the ball well in a positive sense. Each time I have seen him for Argentinos Juniors and Argentina u20 he has added something to his game.

I know there are some middling clubs interested in him for a modest fee. Of course Giaretta won't take any notice but these are the sorts of players we could land with relative ease. Will be playing for Argentina u23 in Tokyo. Look out for him. A call up to the full squad in the short term would not surprise me.

They're not going to sign a centre back because they know Cathcart and Kabasele are just about passable cover for a game or two. The trouble is we will inevitably find ourselves in a situation where Sierralta absolutely bombs in the Premier League and injuries mean we have to rely on Kabasele to play 20+ games for us. Lovely bloke, on his day he can be a monster but over 20 games the amount of errors will be astronomical.
