Clarke got sacked Dec 4th from Reading. He had still well over 1/2 a season to prove himself1 under a different manager and never did. So what does that tell you?

Legends what does the two seasons he spent here tell you? He's a bloody good striker and one of the best finishers we've ever had. Don't ignore what he has done for us and how good he has been. Partnered with Deeney in a 352 could be brilliant.

  3. I would be happy to see Mazzarri mixing the the strikers up a bit, a la Slav, and fancy that Vyds has a decent chance of impressing. Would like to see him get the chance I think most of us thought he'd earned in 2013-14.

I have been pretty critical of his underlying attitude going way back, but I fancy, after the promotion season, that he can still bang them in even if he's off sorts. Give him a chance (I do believe he deserves it with us), and, just like any other player, if it don't work out, THEN give him the chance to get his career going elsewhere.

It could tell me any one of lots of things. It might be that Vydra has completely lost it. It might be that the new manager wasn't up to much. It might be that the whole team was rancid, and that Vydra just couldn't perform in it. It might be that like many players, Vydra has good seasons and bad seasons. it might be that Vydra has some personal stuff going on that affected his football. It might be that he was instructed to play in a way that didn't suit his game. It could have been a temporary lack of confidence. It could be a combination of these.

Judging by Reading forums, his commitment, pace and ability to get in decent positions was never an issue. It was simply the putting it in the back of the net bit that deserted him for whatever reason. Important I know, but all strikers go through that.

  5. We all know football fashion moved away from striker pairs towards a single complete forward who can do everything well.

That is Vydra's weakness, however good his finishing other parts of his game are quite weak. He's not a complete #9, and is why imo he failed everywhere but Watford.

Personally I would play a 3421 with a complete striker and 2 x no10s (a Berghuis, Pereyra, Boufal types...) so don't find room for Vydra

However if Wally wants to play a 352 with a front pair then Vydra can do a job playing off Deeney

His best days are behind him, he's lost it - Sordell mk 2. Deal with it.

When he next scores 20+ Championship goals again, or over 10 Premier League goals, then you can come back to me with that - until then, I think I have reasonable grounds for my opinion.

I have absolutely no doubt that he would score 10+ goals next season. He needs regular game time that's it.

I never got the impression that playing with Vydra was Troy's favourite combination, but tbf he can moan at anyone.

Don't agree with that. Having Vydra playing off the shoulder gave Troy the opportunity to show off other sides of his game, passing, vision etc as well as scoring goals for fun. Don't know what there's not to like being paired with Vydra, like you say he loves a moan but don't think that can be looked into any further.
If Vydra gets his head down, works hard, and makes a case for himself, he could easily challenge ighalo for a starting spot. His positives far out weight his negatives.

Couldn't disagree more. Vydra set Deeney up far more than any of his other strike partners. They'd quite often do goal celebrations acknowledging each other's assist, I would've thought that Vydra was almost certainly his favourite partner.

No I think the fact that he has been superb for us in the 2 seasons he'd played for us is more than enough. Don't understand why so many are trying to find reasons to justify not giving him the chance he deserves.

Hard to make too many assumptions from a tweet but whether he just found it funny or whatever quite interesting he picked that tweet out.

Have Sheffield Watford made their bid for Vydra yet or will he be their first signing in the winter window?

I can't see Vydra going to Shefford. With the money Fulham get from Norwich for MacCormack, Slav will put a cheeky £5mil bid in for Vyds. You heard it hear first

Troy actually said in an interview a while back that Vydra was his favourite strike partner, and he thought they worked well together.

You're convinced he will score five times as many goals in the Prem this season than he managed in the Championship last season? Great logic.

I can't see Vydra going and leaving us with just two out and out forwards again.

If we have a couple of players come in before the end of August he might go out on loan, but at the moment front players are what we are missing.

Even with the number of overseas players we have a midfielder, where we have a larger pool, will go before Vydra does (Unless a replacement is found)

Personally I think he has something to offer

  24. Hornet23

I thought Vydra might stay but not even getting off the bench today says something. I can see us going with Deeney, Ighalo, Sinclair, Success and then a couple of good attacking midfielders coming in to add to the attacking options and Vydra making way.

  25. simpleMASH

Ighalo's once-in-a-lifetime purple patch is over. Would be silly not to keep Vydra unless either a replacement is brought in or the coaches are confident Sinclair or Success could contribute playing as central strikers.

He would score more than 10 if he was regularly in the starting 11 but 10 sounds about right as a regular sub, part time starter. He didn't want to be at reading last season having had a great season for us the season before, they were cr@p, didn't play to his strength, wasn't playing with deeney etc. You know all this.

  27. lowerrous

    lowerrous First Team

He hadn't had a great season for us the season before - it was injury plagued and inconsistent.

Also, if he was so worthy of playing for us one would have thought at least one of Quique or Walter would have been impressed enough with him in training to give him a go - the fact that neither have taken a shine to him suggests that something just isn't right with him.

  28. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

QSF was told he had a much better £5m Belgian superstar striker arriving as back up and of course thought he was only going to play one up front which wouldn't suit vydra. He'd be perfect for 3-5-2 !!

You can't keep making excuses for the guy. He can't play with Deeney every game for the rest of his career.

Maybe not, but while Deeney's here we have possibly a striker that matches, if not supercedes Mo Johnson which is a feat in itself.

But he wasn't deemed good enough last season and looks like he might not be this season. When do people stop thinking he's being hard done by and start thinking that maybe he's not a good as they believe he is?

Wasn't deemed to be good enough when we thought we'd be playing 4-2-3-1. In fact we ended up playing 4-4-2 and I bet QSF would have loved to have had him as an option instead of Oulare. This season 3-5-2 up front with Troy like the other 2 great seasons he had here. We already know that it works as a combination. Happy days. Can't you see that ?

  34. Hornet23

Except it's not about what formation we play is it. It's about whether the player is good enough and whether he can do as he's told. If they're not bothering to give him any minutes in our penultimate friendly then what does that tell you?
