Janmaat's agent has confirmed we have shown interest and held talks with Newcastle but unlikely anything more will happen for now. http://www.foxsports.nl/nieuws/artikel/1270208/watford-wil-janmaat-gesprek-geweest-met-newcastle
Toon's asking price is £10 million apparently http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/07/14/report-watford-told-newcastle-uniteds-asking-price-for-dutch-int/
I would not be surprised to see him come good. QSF didn't appear to have a plan for him (which was odd since he pushed his signing through). He had a quality touch, decent enough pace and usually seemed interested. Figure out where to play him and keep him there.
I'd pay the reported 10m, I'm sure he could adapt to a wing back role. He was one a few Newcastle players that performed last year. Looked very good going forward
Class player although I can't see us spending 18+ mill on a player. We can dream. Heard they want 25m. Speaking to my geordie pals, they reckon Janmaat would fit a 3-5-2 perfectly, not the best defensively but great engine and good at attacking that wing. Seem's most of their attacks came down the right last season and he created chances a plenty. I'd offer 8/9m straight up and see if we get a nibble.
Geordies I know don't rate Wijnaldum at all Apparently he basically showed up for one month of the entire season
Shock news. Some Geordies complain about one of their players for being lazy. Everton are planning on spending on £25 m on him , as Koeman has prioritised him and tried to buy him last summer for Southampton. Ill take Koemans opinion on player ability over some Geordie fans who cant see clearly for the over sentimental tears constantly blurring their vision.
Would love Janmaat and definitely thing RWB would be ideal position for him, allows him to get forward much more freely which he clearly enjoys. Think somewhere around £10m would be a great bit of business for someone who has plenty of PL experience who at 26 is presumably coming in to his prime. On the Wijnaldum subject wouldn't be too keen on him personally, not totally convinced by him. He would probably be worth a punt at anything under £15m but he'snot going to be go for that so I'd probably look elsewhere myself.
I went to a fair few Newcastle games last season, including the Norwich home game where he scored 4. He was unbelievable that day, but the other half dozen games or so he made pretty much no impact at all. Definite quality but think the prevailing Geordie opinion of him is completely justified!
Id imagine that many players found it difficult to play to their full potential in a failing team, low on morale and poorly led. I agree that should be no excuse for not rolling up your sleeves and digging in which it seems many of the Newcastle players failed to do. However , I still think Wijnaldum is quality. Looks good for Holland and scored 40 goals in 100 games for PSV , which is pretty decent from midfield.
You can understand Geordies being nonplussed with players like Sissoko and Wijnaldum in their side giving about 30% effort and getting them relegated, knowing that they will jump ship as soon as the Toon go down.
What?! So because Newcastle got relegated it means he individually can't be better than what we already have? In a position that the 2 mentioned didn't play last season. Thats not how it works bud.
If the Geordies didn't bang on about what a MASSIVE club they are, they might have attracted the right type of players for the club ie low on quality but big on heart , instead they recruited young talented players who couldn't handle the ridicoulous pressure that comes with playing for a mid/low level club that delusionally thinks they are a Man Utd sized club, but without any history or pedigree to back that up . Sunderland fans are far more likeable and realistic than their North East counter parts , despite having a far more successful history and comparable attendance.
So would you like to see him at Watford? The Geordies saying he was average at the back, maybe he would be better with some quality centre backs beside him. He's certainly an upgrade to Paredes and already has EPL experience.
So why are the two even being mentioned as a direct (and unfavourable) comparison? They could still do a job for us if we switch back to a 4-4-2. Besides, Paredes did a decent enough job as wing back in 2014-15, granted it may have been in the Championship, but we won't know if he isn't capable at this level if we don't give him a try in this position, which we haven't since promotion.
His concept of defensive positioning is nothing short of terrifying to be fair. List his qualities and I will probably agree with all of them. But I really don't believe he can be a Premier League defender.
Seriously though, I don't think that we should be signing people called Darryl. That is not a first name for a 21st century footballer. If he's willing to change it to Jose, Blessings or Skryhpi then I'll reconsider.
Considering we've signed Zuniga and are meant to be signing Djedje, I can't imagine we would also need Janmaat - even though I suspect he's better than the other two.
