The bloke is young. Sounds like Flores gave him a bit of a kick in the buttocks with respect to work ethic and getting his physicality where it needs to be. I'll take a one-trick pony, with potential - who's working on his craft over some of the show ponies or no-trick home-grown legends-in-their-own-minds that we've had in the past.

Glad he's getting minutes. Hopefully we add someone at his position and we let them fight it out in camp.

I think he means 'Holland' didn't qualify because it is a region of the Netherlands. Holland is not the name of the nation.

    Netherlands will do well IMO.

I sincerely hope he stays. He showed in the little time he had on the pitch last season that he has real quality. I think he could be a big success here.

Good move for him. He's a winger in a non-winger system who hardly gets a game for us, let him go.

Can't see him staying either. Wrong system unless we use the three up top.

Not really surprised, but a little disappointing. Still a shrewd signing IMO. Go on loan and play well and we'll easily get 4mil back.

QSF made attempts to use him at the start of the season and bring him through at the end. Mazzari apparently doesn't even think he is worth a squad place. Can't throw everything at QSF. Maybe it's the player. The club even brought his dad over.

Would be disappointed if he left. Was never really given a proper chance by QSF, but still impressed when given a go. Think a 4-3-3 with Peñaranda (ok he's gone) and Berghuis would flourish so much.

Why has Mazzarri started him in both friendlies then?!

He made no attempt at all. All he kept saying was he wasn't fit enough and he's protecting him when in truth he was playing his bum chum even though he was crap. When he finally did play Berghuis he got more assists than Jurado did the whole season.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a huge Jurado fan boy, but using assists as a "key statistic" is a bit misleading, you're relying on the striker/whoever finishing the chance as well as a decent enough pass in to start with. If you look at "key passes" aka, a pass that leads to a shot on goal, Berghuis averaged 0.9 per game, whilst Jurado average 1.5 per game. Obviously Jurado had more game-time, but was also played so out of position for so much of the season that I don't think it's fair to compare. Would've loved Jurado to play #10 for a manager who's not afraid to attack.

I agree with you mate but based off of what we saw of Berghuis in the very few appearances he made he contributed more than Jurado. At least when he got out wide he looked to play it forward, get the ball in the box and try and make something happen. Jurado very rarely tried to do that. He wasn't played out of position I know people like to keep saying that but when you actually check his stats, according to who scored out of 182 games he played 44 either CM or CAM and 47 LM or AML (including the times he played for us on both stats) so he was in a position he was very familiar with.

I would have liked to have seen him in a more central role but I don't think we would have gotten that much more out of him in my opinion.

Not using assists is also a nonsense. It's like saying key saves are also misleading because you are relying on the striker not putting it away. Jurado was completely unproductive.

To embellish if Jurado passes square to me 35 yards out and I dribble it at the goalkeeper that is a shot on goal. If Berghuis sticks it on my noddy unmarked on the penalty spot and keeper tips over bar that is a shot on goal. Assists over a season will show the quality of chances created as opposed to a meaningless statistic.

I think he could be effective in a free no. 10 role where he's allowed to drift out to either flank.
Then he could play right wing as and when Mazzarri switched to 433 or 343.
Showed for both us and Holland that he has quality at the end of last season and I hope he stays and contributes this season.

I also feel goals is a meaningless statistic as you are relying on your own ability to not be ****.

He hit the bar once though. I was having a **** so didn't see it so not sure if it counts.

    GoingDown "The Stability"

As for Berghouse, clearly the player has quality and he was ****ed over royally last season in order for the manager to play his favourites.

Shame as he has a lot of potential and can easily see him playing for one of the big boys in two or three years.

But if he doesn't want to stay and run off home, let him. He's moaned enough about us in the media.

He's also made clear that he wants to stay if he can get a kick.

He looked very good in the last few games of the season and the coming on could be where he really gets on fire. Could be just the man to load the bullets for Deeney and Iggy.

I hope he stays and is used to his, what seems considerable, potential.

If Jurado passes square from 35 yards out, I dribble it up the pitch and beat the keeper, that's an assist. Assists over a season aren't that huge of a statistic on their own, you need to combine them with another for a bigger picture.

Over a bigger sample the better quality of chances you create will lead to more assists, even if your strikers are wasteful. Jurado was poor in this area and he was servicing good quality strikers.

Jurado was really good at holding the ball up, keeping possession and allowing the forwards to get further up the pitch, turning defence into attack. But that's pretty much all he was good at. At this level you need more than that from attacking midfielders. They do need to occasionally create chances, and occasional score goals. Jurado did neither.

  34. It pains me to say this, but in the 5 minutes he had at Stevenage, Vydra still had his sulky head on.

Yep, that's the impression I had. Also Berghuis's crossing was shocking.
