So 30th highest average attendance in the world... To anyone who can't be bothered to do their own research, CA have an average attendance of 43,583. Very good, but it must be considered that they're Mexico's best and historically most successful team and their stadium holds 104,000, so their attendance is only 41% of capacity.
Also Guedioura's and Battocchio's old number, so it probably says something about how (a) long he's expected to stay (b) whether Battocchio is coming back (c) whether Guedioura is coming back or (d) none of the above. Surprised he wasn't given number 5 myself.
Is 7 'his' number? Would imagine they'd give it to him if so, because he'll probably sell a few shirts...
It looks like he's always been #7 at most clubs he's at He's also already at Watford on FIFA, not sure when the next squad download is.
Following the tweet that his shirts are now on sale on the online website... I wonder how many will be being shipped to the Central Americas in the coming month - particularly if he gets off to a flyer over here.
I'll say one thing .... he's bloody quick
At first sight, more Parades than Bale. What's with the long diagonal balls forward on a windy day? Hopefully he'll improve, but another who seems to have been overhyped. Prove me wrong, PLEASE.
I said "at first sight", but I get sick of all the hype when we sign someone we've never seen and they turn out to be a soft as the players they replace. But as I said, prove me wrong, please.
Overheard answerphone message left by Miguel to his agent on the team plane after the game (translated): "What the hell Guillermo. I mean, what the actual hell? The weather here. There is no sun Guillermo. There is no sun at all. It's cold. It's really cold. I mean, the ice, it's not served in drinks here. It falls form the actual sky. FROM THE ACTUAL SKY GUILLERMO!!! And the shorts Guillermo. You tell me, "wear black shorts Miguel". I turn up in black shorts. Everyone else was wearing red shorts. RED SHORTS GUILLERMO!!! We need to have some words. We need to have some serious words!!!" Source: #itk
Well, l'm not a chivas' fan but it doesn't matter which team l support in Mexico, because this is a WHATFORD forum, with people interested in their team. I am free to write my opinion as long as l respect others opinions. Layun will improve within the time but he's not Bale. Not even close.
I'm really sorry for writing WHATFORD instead of WATFORD. By the way I bet Layun will be performing better next game and so on.
I would like to think that Layun will improve - our Mexican friends speak very highly of him. He's only been here a week, he doesn't know his team-mates and the weather won't have suited him - but I would have expected him to have shown flashes of what he's about. Instead of which, we saw no pace or skill going forward, awful defending and in the first half, long diagonal balls which (1) defenders are always favourite to clear, (2) don't play to the strengths of Deeney and Vydra, neither of whom are particularly good in the air, and (3) weren't likely to arrive in the right place given the wind conditions yesterday. That showed a basic lack of football intelligence, though I admit that our captain should have told him to stop it long before half-time, when the coaches presumably did have a word. But I'm not really getting at Layun, I'm getting at the posters who go into ecstasy at every exotic signing. Latin players are always a gamble in our very different climate and football culture, yet some fans hail them as nailed-on certainties to take us forward. Layun (the best player in Mexico, Mexico's World Cup star, the Pozzos really mean business) is just another to follow Neuton (brilliant video of highlights), Fabbrini (an Italian full international coming to Watford, can we believe our luck?), Acuna (the Paraguayan goal machine) and Parades (played every minute of Ecuador's World Cup matches). I'd be more excited if we were to sign some British U-19 or U-21 international who can't get a game in Manchester or at Chelsea, or someone making a name for himself in League 1. Of course some players from Italy, Portugal and Spain have been a huge success in British football, mostly at clubs with big squads who could afford to leave the duds to rot or offload them on loan to smaller clubs, often outside Britain. But Watford have got the balance all wrong, and show few signs of refocusing, despite Nani having been replaced by somebody supposed to know British football. The Championship is full of players who may not have great technical ability but who have been successful by being fitter, quicker and more eager to close people down than their more talented contemporaries. That seems to work better than what we've got. Middle-period Zola saw some superb football, but then we had Hogg and sometimes Batto to do the water-carrying in midfield (and yes, I know Batto is an Argentine with an Italian passport) and Fitz Hall rather than the more elegant but less effective Angella in central defence. We need flair players and we've got them, but they need to be complemented by battlers, and for battling we've only got Deeney, Forestieri (who combines flair and effort, but is often wasteful in possession) and Pudil (too slow).
Nothing wrong with Layun from what I could see. It was Joka's mistake throwing him in with less than a weeks squad training into such testing conditions but hey! isn't hindsight wonderful.
He really struggled yesterday but the whole team did. I'd be surprised if he had to play another game this season in those conditions, unlucky for him it just so happened to be his debut.
He did one bit of really good skill, took the ball brilliantly on his shoulder - only for the dopey linesman to flag for handball, indicating he controlled it with his arm just above the elbow - he should take the same stance as the jock ref's and lino's and advertise Specsavers.
