I assume that's why it's a permanent, allows us to bring back Guedioura from Palace. Also if we don't go up then we "sell" him back to Granada for the same pittance we bought him for.
This should be a top signing. Would just warn people about Alex Merkel who we signed this time last year, who had similar hype and disappointed. No reason why this should be the same though!
Just watched the interview , the lad`s attitude is spot on ,thats a great start I hope he does really well at Watford .
Merkel had nowhere near the same hype and wasn't an international regular for a very decent Mexico team. The coverage about this transfer on social media has been insane, I've never seen anything like it regarding Watford players.
Didn't realise how popular Americas/Mexican football was! 1.06 million followers! Blimey, more than anyone else at Watford by far. Could get us some new exotic followers.
I wish I could..... but it's a secret. But there's a good chance right? He last played in December and is already training, I think he's ready.
Our very own LA Galaxy/Watford fan Fitz, has been saying that the Mexican Galaxy fans have been taking a real interest in this move! Methinks WFC will be getting quite a few more LA Galaxy/Watford fans as a result of Layun signing :cool1: Who knows we might even get a new international WFC supporters branch!!!
Permanent deal...incredible. This is almost certainly the biggest signing we've ever made (at point of signing). He's been fantastic every time I've seen him play. It's already been said, but this transfer is a million miles away from Merkel. With Merkel, the excitement was over potential. Layun is a proven, experienced international from one of the best current international sides in the world, and he is in the prime of his career with his best years still ahead of him. None of that means he's going to be a guaranteed success, because you never know how well players will settle and adapt. But if he does settle in well he's going to be massive for us.
this is an absolutely huge signing for us and the championship as a whole. a real statement of intent from our owners who are clearly desperate to get us up this season. come on lads really kick on in the second half of the season, and 2015 will be a year to remember. Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh In the jungle, the mighty jungle The layun sleeps tonight In the jungle, the quiet jungle The layun sleeps tonight Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
Really good suggestion actually! I could see that working, quite like Beppe's song caught on. Not to go all TVOR and steal your thunder, but... With the Hornets, the mighty Hornets The Layun plays tonight?
Wow. I don't think anyone was expecting a permanent move. Last few pages were an interesting read. As for the discussion on the talent level between the mexican 1st division and the championship, it is tough to say which league is better when i dont think any mexican fan or english fan has enough knowledge on the other league to really have a good opinion without being bias. Personally, the last championship game i saw was back when dos santos was loaned out to ipswich. I will say this, in mexico it is seen as a move down and a gamble period. That is debatable, however. Again this is just my opinion but the mexican league has been in decline for the past decade or so. This, i think, is due to the decline in good foreign born players in the league. in years past, a guy like Jackson Martinez would have been a career mexican league player but as european markets continue to look everywhere for talent, places like mexico that are not traditional exporting markets begin to see more and more talent leave. Mexico used to be filled with really good south american internationals from everywhere except brazil and argentina..once in a while a guy like cesar delgado would get a cap for argentina while playing in mexico but that was not that common. Now you mexico is not able to keep these type of players for long. The league has gone from good foreign internationals to third tier talent. Results do support this. In the libertadores, the south american cl that mexicans get invited to because of t.v. money, we've gone from only losing to brazilian teams to getting eliminated by paraguayan and bolivian teams. that was unthinkable 10yrs ago. in the club world cup, cruz azul, a pretty big club, lost to a semi professional new zealand squad.. although cruz azul is known as a team that falls apart in big moments. In comparison, it seems that the championship is going the other direction and has more money So now some of the south americans that would come to mexico are considering the championship Having said that, i personally wouldn't say the mexican league is inferior but just a different type of football. and yes, some of the goalkeeping in those youtube videos are bad but can you really say that the championship is full of great goalkeepers? Like i said in a previous post, Layun is not a world class talent but hes a guy that can contribute to just about any team. If he fails here i don't think its because of lack of quality but rather just the different type of football the national team coach has come out and said this was a huge mistake now that its a permanent move, he just need to help this team get promoted
We see that also in Europe with the Pozzo teams: Italy is more tactical football, Spain is more technical football, England is more intense football Some Pozzo players thrive at one club but not another This really is no more permanent than a loan, every summer we have players transferred between the 3 clubs back and forth.
To Miguel Layen (and for his Mexican supporters) First of all welcome Miguel!! A move anticipated by us for this past week, but as all things Watford, it came with a twist as your signing is now one of the Hornets family. Please take appreciation of the following video, this is Watford 2 seasons ago. Following this result the opposition were promoted to the Premier League the following season, and as a largely unchanged team from this game. Watford then lingered around the same division, even though we kicked this teams butt in the semi final but then didnt show up and lost the final. We need this to change! Many of that Watford team are still here today. Make them play! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMjYhkI_zfI"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMjYhkI_zfI This is the Championship! You Ornnnnnnnsss!
This is an awesome "wing back" signing showing proper intent and ambition, and I hate to be the negative ninny, but: "I like to attack and if I have to defend, I defend" We don't have too many problems in the attacking department, I'd love it if we signed a defender that "liked to defend". But going back to my original statement - AWESOME SIGNING!!! Welcome Miguel! :sign15:
