I see your point but personally I'd rather decent defenders who can bloody defend just incase Vydra got injured or was off form. I see the point in ''the best form of defence is attack'' but when you leak goals for fun then how about we keep it at the basics and get defenders we can rely on to do the job they're meant to because inevitably every game we will have to do some defending. Just my opinion.
SHOCKING NEWS - Footballer wants to play at the highest level possible! Vydra might actually agree with his agent and want to play at the highest level he can thus avoiding getting kicked to bits by some cloggers in the Championship every week! I don't think he has any desire to come back here unless Udinese don't want him and there are no offers from the Premier League. But there will be.
He's Udinese's player, and now Chovonec can't hold them to ransom with a short contract. He's tied down for a good few years now, and they're free to do what they want with him. I will be stunned if: A) He attracts serious interest from a Premier League club. B) Udinese send him to a Premier League club knowing he won't play often. C) They keep him to sit on the bench in Italy.
All footballers want to play at the highest level but not all of them can or will. Vydra may well end up being a top level player but maybe not at the moment. Whatever happens I hope this gets sorted asap rather than drag on through the summer
If Vydra wants to be here next season he will be here... if he doesn't, I wouldn't want him here anyway Don't know why people are getting so worked up
How will Vydra's a agent make more when Udinese pay Vydra's wage? Only way his agent will profit this season is if Vydra is sold to a Premier League which is highly unlikely - the max he can hope for is a loan move to a BPL club which again is unlikely. His best option is Watford, even if he scores 20 goals again for us BPL teams will now have doubts he can only cut it at this level. His best chance at top level football is Udinese or Watford until he strings two consistent seasons together. Finally, his agent won't have much of a say this year due to the fact Vydra is not in demand this year so the ball is not in his court and secondly he's got 4 more years on his contract making a permanent move anywhere other than Pozzo family near enough impossible.
Because he's proved very difficult to replace. And Deeneys already been spotted in every Little Chef from here to Glasgow..
Ha ha, very true but I wouldnt be surprised if Mackays and Dyches 'scouting network' went much further than this
With Vydra on the pitch there's hardly a need for our defence to ever get stretched and although this won't count much against individual errors, it makes it much easier to stay in shape. Provided both wingbacks are disciplined about not being caught up the pitch at the same time then in theory we'd be practically impossible to break against. Unstretched means more organised, and more organised means fewer errors. Needless to say, a put through Vydra will always score plenty of goals.
Agents get paid for arranging loan deals too, and I guess there is a percentage of the fee involved. It follows that premier league teams would pay higher loan fees than all but a couple of champ clubs, therefore agents want their clients at prem. clubs, even on loan. Watford wouldn't be paying a loan fee, so it's a kick in the wallet for Chovanec. If in doubt...follow the money.
We seem to be spending more time fretting about signing Vydra than keeping Deeney . Admittedly Vydra is the more spectacular , but who is the more consistent goal scorer and who offers the most to the team
I just can't forget what Deeney said once while co-commentating on a match after Vydra had left. Jon Marks queried whether he'd like to partner up again and he clearly replied that he was a good player but Vydra would never come back or be wanted back. He had burned his bridges was his words (implying he got too big for his boots) and to return would involve too much losing of face. Mentioned nothing about his agent being the one behind it. I hope the talk moves on from him...people also forget his 10 games without goals at the end of last season, just when we needed the final push into the top 2.
If it was a choice between keeping Deeney or Vydra returning, my choice would be to keep Deeney, but I have to say I would not say no to them teaming up again if Vydra comes back playing anything like he did in his purple patch on a consistent basis, and if Deeney is happy to play alongside him? Whether Deeney would be happy about it could be a big factor in Vydra coming back, if what Helsinkihorn says in post 121 on this thread is correct?
That commentary (away to Rovers I think, or City) was reproduced in the Wobby and I am almost certain the reference to burning bridges was made towards the agent and not the player. Maybe someone can unearth the piece.
So Vydra is now the defensive stalwart we need? We conceded 6 less goals with Vydra, and supposedly causing the opposition to drop deeper.
That commentary was much misunderstood. Jon Marks asked if they would ever be Bridge partners again in local card tournaments. Deeney had felt that he was the main man when it came to winning hands and Vydra had chosen to play at a 'higher' level, the extremely competitive over 70's circuit in the Black Country.
I remember the commentary as Deeney saying that he'd like to have Vydra back and that he got on with him but he felt as though Vydra felt he had burned his bridges and wouldn't feel comfortable returning after him/his agent spending the summer bigging him up and trying to get a move to a PL team.
Going back to the "agent wants client to play top level" argument, there is no issue with that, my issue is with saying "prefer" implying anything lower isn't good enough. Like any football agent, they influence the career of their client massively. With Vydra being so young and being the "hot prospect" he's taken the step and it has turned out to be too big. Dropping down isn't anything to be ashamed about. Time will tell in all of this.
For obvious reasons I haven't seen too much of Vydra this season. MOTD usually 'feature' WBA towards the end of their programmes and the highlights are, let's say, limited. This season has been a stalling one for Matej but I did see his cameo on Tuesday against Sunderland, he looked too sharp for his team mates, looking to make those darting runs we were so familiar with, but they didn't have anyone able to either read his runs or make the pass. He didn't looked to have lost any of his sharpness from what I saw. He did also return to the Vic' a couple of times earlier in the season and seemed quite comfortable with his surroundings, sitting with players not in the squad. so I don't think he would be too big to return - time will tell I guess!
There is at least a possibility that this is a case of "client wants agent to find a top level club for him", and Vydra has said that is where he would like to play. So, if that is what he wants, why not leave him be and get on with it. Do we really want the Pozzos to force him to play here when we have seen strong evidence that he is capable of the type of attitude that has blighted the team in the last few months? If I knew he would come back positive and committed, I would have no problem; but everything seems to point to the opposite. If the guy doesn't to want to play here, I reckon we already have enough players of that ilk. Why force another on us?
You're right, there is a possibility but there has been no direct quote from Matej Vydra himself to say that he want's to play at that level. Everything has come from his agent. I'm well aware that the client employs the agent but when it comes to media/speculation the client has very little say. We all know football agents tout/influence/take advantage of their clients' career but in the 2 years Watford FC have been linked to Vydra nothing positive has ever come from Chovanec. As you say, his attitude was an issue. I don't feel it was as much of an issue when he wasn't playing games last year because we were still getting the job done. As a young footballer who had very little knowledge of English when he came here I'd find it very hard for him to influence people when you have the likes of Deeney, Almunia, Cassetti and Eustace around him.
Ignoring his agent for the time being, all that matters for Vydra is that he is happy with where he plays his football. I can't imagine that he has enjoyed the last season but if he is happy to try again and a PL team takes him then good luck to him. If however he wants to pretty much guarantee regular football at a place where he has his most productive season to date then I welcome him back as he is a fantastic striker. As I said earlier though, please don't let this drag on and on but I suspect his agent will do this in the hope a club at a higher level comes in.
Oh yes, Vydra's famous attitude problem, based only on brief comments by Almunia which were open to interpretation and were straight out rejected by Zola when he was asked about them.
I think there was a lot more to it and the Pozzos have done well from it. I think they would have said to Vydra (and his agent) that they can have their Premier League move IF he signs the new contract after everything point towards Vydra & Chovanec forcing the move (I'll just blame them both from now on to keep repeating myself and keep everyone happy) Chovanec (and Vydra) has now said that it is ultimately up to the Pozzo family to decide where he will play and that may have been a lesson learned by Vydra (and Chovanec) not to try and force the move.
If he comes back, the chances are he will be a better person for the past two years. Thats better for us and better for him, unless of course some fans treat him the same way they did Diakite
Probably the same people who said - "no forgiving Deeney / we don,t want his type in our club" I recall a time when frankly only myself / Knight / Clive and one or 2 others wanted to keep him and now most of you wanted him out but would give him a blow job if you met him Just learn to be a bit more consistent and evenly balanced in your views Deeney is going to go / Udinese will steal Panos / Vydra will come back i suspect and we will get some new people we have never even heard of- life will go on and we will have a better squad overall next year than this I think.
