Yes not sure what this obsession is with players that don't want to play for the club. he had half a good season and most of his goals were based on 1 on 1 with the keeper. Once teams worked out that you don't give him space in behind he is nowhere as good? we've got enough players that would rather be some place else. It's a no from me

Maybe he wasn't, but even then he had the oppo so rattled that he was dragging 2-3 defenders away from other players.

Vydra has never he said he doesn't want to play for Watford, he just wants to play at the highest level.

Can't believe why anyone wouldn't want him back, arguably the best striker ever to pull on a Watford shirt.

That can be said about any playing any team that relies on pace upfront. We need a pacey striker. We are after one. We had the pace of Anya at times but not the finish of MV. Teams worked that out, pressed us .......

agreed that if Vydra signs for WFC directly and buys into the journey then he will be a great asset. if it's another loan he will probably come in and score some goals and then will be looking to go in the window.

I totally agree. Best thing for all involved is for the move to be permanent

  7. In what way?

Mighty Mo was more prolific, whilst Luther had everything - pace, power, finishing, determination....

Then there is H, DG, King...

Agree with the other points... spot on

Accuse me of sounding like I'm playing Football Manager, but did you not see that Vydra used his pace to get behind defences, meaning they had to have a deeper defensive line to stop him running behind them. This gives Abdi, Toszer etc more space. He also used to have 2, sometimes 3 players marking him or chasing him, all of this giving Deeney and (if we play 4-4-2 next season) our two wingers a lot more space to operate in. There's a reason players like Gabriel Agbonlahor have played at the highest level despite not having quite as much technical ability as others.

His last season and a half have been poor. He has also made it clear that he wants to play in the top league. Most of his success was based on Deeney and the rest of the team playing to his strengths. I think he is better off at WFC so he can build his experience and become a better all round player. If he commits then great, but in my view bringing him back on another loan would be a mistake

In an interview on Chovanec's site from the end of April he replies, when asked if he may stay at WBA, that he may depending on how much Udinese ask for him. Make of that what you will.

At risk of making myself look like a ***, he won't be at WBA next season. They need two new full backs and a new CB, and don't have the money to pay what the Pozzo's would want, especially if they strengthen in these other positions. The fans at WBA don't like him, and they'd be angered if they signed him, and he was bought to play Steve Clarke's counter attacking football which they no longer do under Mel.

    Just quoting the article.

How much money do people think the Pozzos will ask for him?

Could be that he does have four years left on his contract, but if it is just the one, he could be going for £2-3 million, maybe less, especially if he doesn't fit in like last year.

  19. ForzaWatford

    ForzaWatford Squad Player

Don't think they'd accept less than 7/8 million at this point. I don't think WBA would even pay 2-3 mil for him after this season tbf. If any Prem team took him, it'd be Leicester I think.

WBA will not commit to buying Vydra, not for the fee the Pozzo's would want for him anyway. The fact he only played a bit part all season for them shows he's not really what they are interested in.

Vydra's biggest problem is his agent. He keeps telling him how good he is, how he will a first choice at Udinese or in the Premier League. The fact is Udinese had him all pre-season and did not want him. WBA, a team that missed relegation by one place, had him all season, and only played him a handful of games.

Under the advise of his agent, Vydra has wasted a year of his career, a year which could have really progressed his talent. By now he may have spearheaded Watford into the Premier League and would be a very valuable asset, one which could have had the big clubs swooning. We will never know.

Now it looks like his only viable option is back to Watford, with his tails between his legs.

I know it's the agent's job to promote his client, but in this case, all he has gone is given a talented young player, expectation before he is ready. Now Vydra is seen frustrated at West Brom, throwing off the shirt when substituted in a fit of anger, all because his agent has given him a false impression of his ability. Sure he had a spectacular 4 months at Watford, but he disappeared from February until that 2nd leg playoff match. He wasn't even a regular in the Watford starting XI, so it's quite a jump from that to a first team player in Serie A or the Premier League.

It's a shame for the lad, as we can all see what's happening from the outside, but he's apparently surrounded himself with bad advisors. If his next move turns out to be another year in the wilderness, sitting on a bench at Leicester, for example, his stock value will plummet even further as well as his career.

How do we know it was Vydra's agent, and not Vydra himself demanding a PL move?

No. Vydra's agent, as he said clearly in January 2013, expected Matej to sign permanently for Watford despite premiership interest, and Chovanec states it would be a good move. Vydra wanted to go, not his agent. You don't have to look far to read this yourself as links to the articles were posted on this thread Saturday morning.

It was not Chovanec that wanted him to leave Watford.

Journalists know when their articles are 5hit. Sadly they set out to write 5hit that gets hits on their websites. If he is happy that the article is good then he'll defend it. As for not revealing his source, contracts are a matter of record on footballing association files, and they are not to my knowledge considered to be secret. Websites like transfermarkt use those records to provide their content, and Matej is still on their site as in contract only until next year. That could be wrong, and if Smith knows better, he shouldn't have a problem in corroborating his story, as journalists USUALLY do, even if it is to state an unnamed source.

He mentioned the contract as if it was common knowledge (he didn't claim it to be news), in which case, how come he is the only person that knows it to be a fact?

We all expect more of the Watford Observer, at least those of us that new it when it was the only source of information on the club, and it is sad that it feels the need to employ cheap journalism to raise the hopes of the fans, just to impress its sponsors.

Throughout Fridays articles on transfer speculation the only source mentioned was regarding Toszer, everything else is hearsay.

Exactly, as I was saying earlier it was Vydra who was burning his bridges(as radio quote from Deeney) just when he could have been helping us over the line into the prem, not his agent. If he had concentrated on the season in progress he might now be playing every week for us in the premier league. Remember he scored no goals in the last 10 games of the season and Almunia questioned his attitude in training when he should have been desperate to score more goals and seal us promotion. If he sheepishly comes back and bangs in a few goals sadly I think he will do just the same at the Jan transfer window.

  29. I'll be astounded if WBA or any established prem club buy Vydra, a £29.99 patio table and chair set could score more than 3 in 18

His agents best chance if he insists on the prem next season is to start talking to Lesta or Burnley

While I am sure Vydra's agent is a proper ***, the fact that he is also Pudil's agent and we never hear stories about Danny, makes it pretty obvious that it is Vydra who is behind his agent's quotes, and not the agent just touting him around off his own back.

That's because Pudil is 30ish and the Championship is probably his limit.

Vydra is young, very talented, and likely to bag Chovanec a tasty transfer fee cut.
