The usual way around wage ceilings is to offer people a nice fat signing-on fee. Maybe that's the answer.
Well let's just hope there is some way of keeping him here permanently, I've said this quite a lot recently but he's the best left back we've had in years.
http://www.mfc.co.uk/articles/20110106/duo-return-after-successful-loans_70638_2259938 FORMER England U21 international left-back Andrew Taylor is back with Boro after a successful three-month loan spell with npower Championship rivals Watford. The 24-year-old played 18 games for Malky Mackay' side, scoring the first goal of his career with a stunning strike against Portsmouth and helping the Hornets into a play-off position. "I spoke to Malky and explained that the deal as it stood wasn't of great benefit to our football club," said Boro boss Tony Mowbray. "Unless Watford can come up with a better deal or another club comes up with a deal that's suitable for us and for Andrew, I just felt bringing him back was the right thing to do. "Let's see if he can compete to get in or around our team or let's see what the transfer window brings."
I'll be particularly dissapointed if he is loaned/sold to someone other than us. Come on Watford don't f**k about let's get him back where he belongs.
It seems like he's just trying to get another club interested in him so he can raise the price he'll be demanding from us.
Taylor is on 15k a week according to Boro fans. We were paying 40% of his wage, but Boro now want us to pay 75%. Which we can't afford. Taylor will be behind Bennett, who boro fans think will be better than Bale :whoosh:.
£15k a week?! You sure?! I heard £8k! Is this from the same source that said we'd be getting an official announcement about the takeover today?
Fair enough. I've heard off a couple of Borough fans it's around the £8k mark, and although it probably means nothing that's also what it's set to on Football Manager. If that £8k figure is the right one surely we can come to some sort of deal, loan or permanent, to keep him here.
He did sign this contract when Boro were a solid PL side and Taylor had just established himself at LB. 8k is probably spot on though.
Taylor has been a crucial part of the team, he'll be sorely missed if we don't get him back. Top player. If we can't get him we should try to find a good LB because it's an area of the squad that we are very thin in. 8k is too much for us, and other clubs showing interest means that it's unlikely we'll get him unless money really means nothing to him/boro. Rubbish situation but true.
He is a pretty skilled player for a left back and very attack minded. Taylor should take a pay cut and see the season out here. He could well be in the Premier***** with us next season.
I suspect it'll all come down to where Taylor is come January 31st. At the moment 'Boro hold all the cards but as the month wears on a slightly improved offer from Watford will probably look more attractive to them than paying 100% of Taylor's wages to sit on their bench at best.
i disagree, if we cant make a deal for him in our wage structure then we shouldnt sign him. there are other good left backs out there, he is not the only one.
And I agree, I haven't once said that we should break the current structure to sign him, but going on the information I've recieved about his current wages I think it's realistic that we can bring him back and would like to see us put some real effort into getting him here permanently for a small wage drop, and if that means him being one of the top earners alongside Graham and Eustace, but still within the current structure, then I think he's worth it. And if there's so many other good, affordable, left backs out there, why have we been stuck with the sh*t we've had in that position all these years?
Not surprising he's on 15k a week seeing they were a PL team a few years ago. Can't afford him, learn from the past and move on. If malky's got another 6k to spend on the wages of a left back then not all is lost.
Thats all he said. Malky to get Taylor back. He's a former Watford striker who was commentating with Jon Marks today. Said he was talking with Malky before the game.
No way is Taylor on 15k a week considering that he has never been a key player for 'borough, has come through the academy and is still very young. If they give wages like that to fringe players then i wouldn't be surprised if they went bust. 8k sounds much more likely.
i heard he has played over 100 games for them? or am i sorely mistaken, anyway, 8k sounds about right to me aswell.
He has made 100 plus appearences for Middlesborough but a lot of them were off the bench and deputising for Arca when he had several long-term injury problems. He was only first choice left back for a brief period and this way disrupted by persistent injuries that he has picked up after the last two years. Indeed his fitness problems are one thing that people haven't seemed to pick up on here.
