Sounds like they're not getting much for loaning him out.:sign15:

On the other hand they might now want to play hardball:dismay:

If a small amount of cash is available in the new year, would people want a transfer bid tabled? If so how much do you think he's worth?

Nothing say that he is almost definitely wanted back, unlike Mutch.

They already have a left back, and the article is about recalling another left back, Jonathan Grounds, so I'd be surprised if they did demand Taylor back, maybe need to re-negotiate the deal though if it's not suiting Middlesbrough FC.

Offer them a token fee to take him permanently now rather than let him leave on a free at the end of the year. He's been fantastic since he came and they obviously have 2 other left backs they value.

The deal not suiting Boro is probably related to them paying part of his wages. And therein lies the problem for us - his wages are probably more than we can afford. So even if we wanted to, I doubt we'll be able to sign him on a perm.

People talking £100k-£300k to sign him - these days that's the expected loan fee!! I know he's out of contract in June but no doubt they'd like to extend it as he plays one of the 'specialist' positions quite well.

I can see Taylor wanting to stay. He's currently playing regular first team football at a club in a good league position, whilst if he went back to Borough he'd be second or third in line at a club facing relegation. Obviously the decision is not down to him entirely, but you'd hope he has a say.

If we can get the funds to make a transfer bid then that would be great, or we could sign him on a free in the summer and he can have some of Ellington's wages.

Perhaps Ellington should pay his wages, drive him to training and matches, clean his boots etc in an attempt to make him useful around the place.

Interesting article, I wonder how much he is on?

We shouldn't break the wage structure to keep him - if we did sign him, would he accept the drop in wages?

Difficult position to be put in really. He obviously isn't too keen to go back though!

He's a hot prospect and I'd love it if we signed him permanently but not at the risk of upsetting other player contracts.

Time to chose, regular first team football and an investment in your future or a bigger paycheck elsewhere for bench sitting?

In the summer with Ellington, Sadler and Travener off the books we might be able to stretch the wage budget slightly.

He's by far the best left back we've had at Watford in years, we should do absolutely everything we can, within reason, to keep him here permanently.

Luckily e does strike me as the sort of player who loves playing football, and would probably accept a drop in wages to stay here where he's clearly loving it and playing every game. If he becomes one of the top earners within this new wage structure then I think he's worth it, good left backs are very hard to come by, as we've all seen in the last 5 years or so with the likes of Stewart, Powell, Sadler etc.

    He's on about £8K a week.

Also to Hornmeister and those saying when we get rid of deadwood, we can stretch our own wage bill, no we shouldn't, we have a wage structure for a reason, no one should be above it, no one, it'll open the floodgates..

We should offer him what we can without breaking the parameters we've set, and if he is serious about wanting to stay we'll see.

stewart was amazing, what you on about! :xmaswink:

completely agree, and i think he really does like it here. i reckon he would probably take a drop in wages, but there is absolutely no way we should break our wage structure for one player.

I'd like to see us sign him. Decent left backs of his age are hard to find. We found a mutually beneficial deal for Walker when negotiating with Boro so hopefully history can repeat itself.

I would have thought that the reason we have the wage limit we do is because that's what the club can afford on it's own without outside investment. Currently the wages of the likes of Ellington and Sadler are the reason our indebtedness is increasing. Once they're gone that figure should stop going up quite so fast. We'd be silly to not live within our means.

I can't actually remember a left back better than him since the 90's. I remember Kenny Sampson waddling and Steve Morrow, 2 of the worst, Drysdale, Robbo and his constant reckless challenges, Peter Kennedy (really a winger), the bloke with bunyans, Mayo, Darlington, Stewart, Powell, Sadler, Doyley. Better than the lot of them

Of course, Sietes and Travner may well have been better!

Remember Taylor fell out with the former Middlesborough manager but Mowbray (spelling) has probably seen the lad look more than comfortable at left back playing for us and thinks he might be worth giving another go...

  25. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Mowbray's comments don't exactly sound like he's keen to see him back. He talks mainly about other players who play in that position and infers that a deal can be done to see him back at Watford.
