What price for the impressive Zach Clough I wonder?...

What about Bakary Sako. He is an exceptional player, and one who would do well in the Premier League.

Where would he fit into our formation though?

  4. Carpster

    Carpster Squad Player

You're most likely correct. But if a young player becomes available like James Wilson Man Utd, Luke Garbutt Everton or even a Demarai Gray. It would be crazy not to. All have contracts finishing in the Summer. Birmingham could even have Dyer, McGugan and Fabbrini for Gray.

  5. WatfordTalk

    He'd be our best wing-back

  6. Carpster

    Carpster Squad Player

He did... Can't see what all the fuss is about him. Very very lightweight and not a warrior needed in our midfield.

  7. Carpster

It's a good point... Good player in certain formations. But 352 or diamond he is not needed.

Will Hughes is just a bleach blonde Josh McEachran imo

James Wilson. Loan only at present. Well thought of at Old Trafford.

Luke Garbutt. He will get a new contract at Everton.

Demarai Gray still an unknown quantity. I would like to see Matias Kranevitter here.

  11. Carpster

    Carpster Squad Player

Ok but i was talking about British young players with first team experience whose contracts run out in the Summer.
If Wilson was so highly thought of why is his contract finishing this Summer. Surely the Pogba mistake has been learnt.
Garbutt has Baines and Oviedo to push out of the way. That will be a very hard task.
Gray was just a way to offload players to our advantage. Udinese like doing business this way. He could even stay on at Birmingham for added experience.

  12. ForzaWatford

He's not even that good, re watch Ighalo's goal against them and watch him. He just strolls back and watches Ighalo run in behind and score then starts shouting at his defenders, when it was his fault for not tracking back!

If he's not as good as Josh McEachran he must literally be snot in a jar.

  14. Malteser

Of all the players mentioned on here recently, I'd put Sako as top of my list. A terrific player, good attitude, a nice age and available too. Having sniffed around him in the past, I'd be surprised if we weren't one of the teams reported to have approached him this week.

  15. Smudger

Smudger Messi's Mad Coach Staff Member

Oh I see Carpster. Wilson is likely to sign a new contract shortly but probably will be available for loan for next season. Garbutt will I think get ahead of Oviedo and have more games next season as real competition for Baines.

Yes we could do a deal for Gray with player exchange and cash but he is still very raw.

  16. El distraído

He's a winger though, isn't he? Would he fit into our formation(s)?

I think we will budget a largish amount to bring in at least 2 or 3 decent quality home grown players. This will be purely to make sure we have enough to cover the quotas, the rest of our incoming players will be recruited in the usual Pozzo fashion, from their vast pool of players.

The Pozzo's will do what is necessary to keep us in The Premiership , because WFC being a PL club now represents the best source of income for The Pozzo group, so a lot of their pool of players that might hitherto have been reserved for Udinese will now be earmarked for WFC instead!

  18. Malteser

    Malteser Squad Player

As Watford Talk said earlier, he might do well as a wingback for us?

And do we really have 'a formation'? We seem to be very flexible in that regard. In my opinion, we need a strong squad, full stop!

Sako would fit the model nicely. A very skillful and powerful forward

If we are now looking at teams that will definitely be in the championship next year:

There will be a queue for Sako, let's hope we are in it if joka thinks he will fit into his plans (not another Dyer playing style wise not attitude)

Would rather have Hendrick than Hughes from Derby

We should also be able to offer some first team PL action for players from the likes of Chelsea and if they work out then as part of that Clubs business model (FFP compliance) they are happy to sell. Ryan Bertrand being a case in point

Looks like Mike Williamson might be going cheap now. We could do a lot worse than a premier league regular for the last 5 years

99 times out of 100 i'd rather a talented chamiponship youngster pick a Prem team such as Watford where he's going to get regular games, but in Hughes' case he might be better off moving to top 4 team and getting introduced slowly. He's incredibly talented but doesn't respond well to pressure and drifts in and out of games so has the potential to be a boo boy for a team scrapping against relegation.

Sako I could take or leave, he doesn't fit the formation and despite being out of contract he'd still cost us an arm and a leg in wages.

Hendrick is a good shout, I've always been impressed with him and his work rate would be helpful. He offers something different to our other midfielders as well. Mowatt looks more ready than Hughes for the Prem but could be out of our price range.

Let me talk you through this:

Williamson- Looks like he may of just fell out of favour at Newcastle after yesterday, doubt he will cost much at all and has plenty of experience at the top level

Bassong- Slav seemed to love him when he was hear on loan. If Norwich fail to gain promotion i wouldn't be surprised if we see him return

Essien- If the rumours are true and the price is right i wouldn't say no to someone of his quality and experience at the pinnacle of English football

Widmer- Unlikely i know but is a class player and i would love him to join us to test himself in the prem

Sako- Absolute quality in the championship, quick powerful and his defensive efforts and ability are underestimated and with his energy i actually believe he could do well in a wing back role and of course would be on a free.

I'd like to see Bassong back, since being here he s put it great shifts in the Norwich starting line up. No nonsense defending.. He would be sorted out the Wednesday lump as well..
For me Hughes was built up a lot last season and linked with Liverpool strongly but he s seems similar to McGugan in the way he ll do a few brilliant things one game and be a match winner and then go walkies for a fortnight! I'd rather see Hendrick as well..
Id rather go for someone big tho that we know what we re getting, and is home grown.. Its obvious we ll end up with some freebee foreigners so spend on the home grown.. Cleverley, Garbutt, If Hull go down there would be chances of Dawson, Ince, huddlestone maybe.. Or Rodwell and Cattermole if Sunderland go.. All prob have relegation clauses!

Widmer and Essien are no brainers. If it's true Essien was on 35k a week and has been let go its got to be worth a 1 year for slighty less or the same... Widmer on a free.. be like Christmas coming

my view is that we dont have any decent full backs if we are going to play a flat back four. i know joka likes to switch from 532 to 442 diamond but theres no way we will get away with playing connolly or the like at left back in the premier league and right back is also a problem area.

will be very interested to see what defensive reinforcements arrive.

if we do have 5 players already lined up my guess is that many will be from premier league top clubs who need PL experience and not from the championship although sako would be a great signing imo.

do we have to field an u21 side next season?

  30. UEA_Hornet

No, although now we're in the club rather than standing at the gates looking in I imagine it's a formality. Would make their system look silly if a Prem club had a Cat 3 setup.

Just me who really doesn't rate Cattermole? He's a half decent player but he's extremely limited. There's a fine line between tough tackling and reckless, and Cattermole is the latter.

  32. Travis Bickle

Mings, Hughes, Moffatt and the like will be way out of our budget. These are the prize young talents of the championship and none of their clubs will take less than 8-10m per player. We'll need to uncover a gem who is slightly less visible to pick up English talent from the lower leagues at a reasonable price.

  33. El distraído

Moffatt is an absolutely quality player and we really should do all we can to sign him. I'd also like us to go after Kendrick and Lewis Book of Leeds.

Thinking about possible winners of the young player of the year award tonight I realised we really don't have many young players in the first team squad.
Do people think this is something we need to address in this transfer window or is that something to worry about further down the line?
