Because we will probably do the same on Sunday. Beating arsenal 2-0 10mins to go. Watford look like they have secured Prem league status. Villa drawing, Bournemouth losing. Arsenal get a goal back. 90th min pen awarded to arsenal 2-2. Watford going down.

Confidence is rock bottom. Arsenal 2 up within 20 mins and stroll to a 4-0 win. Deeney gets more opposition shirts than times he controlled the ball.

I’m sure he will be chasing Aubameyang down.

Pretty sure the cowards will put us out of our misery by being out of the game after 10 minutes like at West Ham.

Lucky 0-0 draw and a villa loss. Stranger things have happened, though maybe nothing more improbable.

Even if we stay up it seems a bit pointless now, might as well go out with a whimper.

We have built them up for favourites to go down now.

It would be a very Watfordy thing to stay up on the last day.

My blind faith will be the death of me but I'm feeling more confident after what happened in The Championship tonight. Football is a funny old game.

Not this time. Nothing watfordy about us anymore. Just very predictable. The chickens have well and truly come home to roost.

We just have to give it everything.

    4-2-4.

Deeney won't be dropped so put Gray or Pedro next to him. Sarr & Welbeck out wide.

Hughes & Doucoure to put in the shift of their lives in the middle and just see what happens.

    No other choice.

We will unfortunately pick the same line up as v city and only change it when we are behind. Can't see us being bold, just reactive.
Doucoure cannot play even the simplest of passes since restart but keeps being picked on past performances. Welbeck Sarr combo would offer mobility we have been missing. If we play Deeney, Sarr and others need to make overlapping runs from his headers, not stay on the wings. Troy wins a lot of headers but no one except Geri used to get close enough or gamble on them so possession is surrendered immediately too often now. Like Doucoure, Troys passing is really poor now and breaks our attacks down.
I too would like to use the talents of Quina and Pedro but because we have barely used them from the bench I suspect they would struggle. Why, when we have sucked for so much of the season have our head coaches not give these players time from the bench to play them into form and become starters. Must be shocking in training!
Maybe luck will smile on us. Who ever scores first will win i think. We struggle to score goals, if arsenal score first I think we will lose by a few, if we score first it is possible Arsenal will feel sorry for themselves and struggle as we have seen them do in the past.
What must not happen is Arsenal be greeted by a beaten looking team who are defeated before the first whistle blows.

Honestly, just pick a positive line-up, spring a few surprises for once and go at them. Arsenal hate playing against pace and we have very little to lose. This side, on paper, has enough pace in Sarr, Welbeck and Pussetto and enough creativity in Pereyra (if he can be arsed) to give them a few problems:

    ------------------ Foster ------------------

    Femenia - Dawson - Kabasele - Masina

    ----------- Doucoure - Hughes -----------

    -------- Sarr - Pereyra - Pussetto --------

    ----------------- Welbeck -----------------

I don't know why I bother though. It'll be the same team as against City, as it has been virtually the entire season, and we'll lose 3-0 and finally be relegated.

Don't blame Troy if it has an effect, that was nearly three years ago and many current Arsenal players weren't even at the club back then or have forgotten/don't care.

Blame Chris Sutton for stirring things up ahead of a crucial game.

Thinking the exact same thing since I saw the amazing results on the Championship final day.

Another thing I was thinking of is just six years ago Wycombe, a team we will be playing if we go down, were staring down the barrel into non-league when they went into the final game of League 2, being three points behind Bristol Rovers who had a supposedly easy home game against a crap Mansfield side who had nothing to play for, and having lost a vital six-pointer at home to them which would have crushed the confidence of teams less mentally brittle than ours. The only saving grace was that they were playing at already relegated Torquay which was almost as easy as it came.

In the end Wycombe won and Rovers lost and look where they are now instead of still stuck down in the Conference as have many teams that have got relegated into that division round that time or earlier.

And then there's Fulham, who in 2008 looked certain to go down but stayed up and the next season qualifed for the UEFA Cup and got to the final.

If we stay up it could be the making of the club more than a relegation and a swift return, so let's hope the players realize and appreciate what is at stake.

Sutton is one of the biggest t0ssers out there, and always has an axe to grind over Watford for some reason.

However, Deeney does give them the ammunition, so people with an agenda will always use it against us. If Deeney says nothing, then there's no story. It may not motivate Arsenal that much, but it will be used in the aftermath if they beat us to send us down.....you can be sure of that.

I'll be at work on Sunday, but finish before the game ends. Probably the best way tbh.

If there's anything other than Watford winning by 2 goals and Villa getting smashed I dont know if I want to know when I tune in.

Whats the worst way it could go?

I reckon we are winning 1-0 in stoppage time. Villa drawing. Villa score with the last kick of their game but we have a penalty, Troy misses, they break and equalise with a goal that pundits all agree should have been chalked off for handball by VAR.

Think we'd be down as soon as Villa scored in that scenario anyway...

Looking at how well West Ham played last night, this is not a shoo-in for Villa.

There’s always the “on the beach” accusation, and that does happen, but as with Southampton, West Ham are now playing well, enjoying their game and are relaxed.

I think they could well beat Villa.

If that does happen, all we’ve got to do is get a point at Arsenal, a side notorious for their form fluctuations. This will be a nothing match for them. No fans to sign off their last game in front of. It’s all about the Cup final next week for them.

It’s probably a good time to play them.

The way I see it, we’ve got a decent chance of staying up. We all have to believe that.

I’m hoping the players will finally put in a performance they are capable of and grind out a result. We need a bit of luck too, as Villa have had plenty.

    Sunday could be “Survial Sunday”

Isn't this about the third or forth game in a row we've played against a 'nothing match' team?

You're setting yourself up for disappointment HB1. You, of all people, should realise that.

What will be will be, however, I've got a strong feeling it's going to go our way.

When City went as strong as they did, there was only ever going to be one conclusion from that. They are by far the best team in the league in a one off game. Clearly Liverpool are better over an entire season with their consistency, but since the restart, City, when they play their first choice, are pretty unstoppable.

West Ham was certainly not a nothing match for either side. Newcastle was a nothing match and we won, Norwich was not a nothing match for them at the time. They had to win. So I'm not sure your comment is correct.

I wonder if this scenario, really needing to win on Sunday, may actually help us a little bit, even if it still isn't good enough in the end.

If we needed to hold out for a draw we would definitely just sit back as we did against City, and invite Arsenal on.

If I was the coach, I'd set up as if we need to win by 2 or 3 in the hope and expectation that Arsenal will have the FA Cup Final in their minds. We can't rely on Spam in our hour of need.

WH can secure the place above Brighton with a win, I believe that’s worth a couple of mill, so I doubt that’s lost on their owners. They’re in great form recently, they clearly didn’t roll over against a much better team in Utd and far more clutching at straws but I’m sure they’d see Villa as a bigger longer term threat to them if they stayed up then us or Bournemouth.

The thing is we pretty much do need to win by 3 though, so that’s exactly what we should do. Short of villa and muff both losing by a couple of clear goals fairly early on, we can’t really rely on villa drawing or losing 1-0 because 1 goal for them renders a draw useless for us.
