[CONFIRMED] Will Hughes

If this goes through I think its a good signing for the money quoted. His homegrown and can go into the team. Is young and will want to impress and not see us as one last payday. the reaction of the Derby fans shows he loved up there and they are hurting in the same way we used to be when someone left for a PL club.
Looks like we are happy to buy British if there is value, Cleverley and hughes. But wont get dragged into deals which dont.

Excited by this signing and it will be a good deal for all parties. I think Hughes needs to make that step up and Derby/Rowett need some cash coming in ( they have been spending a fair bit the past few seasons). I don't think having several different head coaches helped his development last season and he will get games here unlike at the likes of Liverpool.

 

Effectively swapping Hughes for Vydra looks like a good bit of business from where i'm sitting (living room)

 

or of its the quoted price of 4.5 mill then we ve swapped Anya for Hughes.

 

Sky sports just confirmed the initial 4.5mil deal, but rising to a possible 7 rather than 8 with add ons.

Even if he's crap, we could probably get more from a Championship team for that.

He was pretty poor after his injury, so it's still a bit of a risk, but for a home grown player with his talent, that risk is absolutely minimal.

 

That's it, if he turns out to be good, we'd probably make a fair whack if we were to ever sell him, and if he turns out shyte we'll probably make a profit selling him to a number of Championship teams, heck, even teams like Burnley, Bournemouth and Huddersfield would probably take him off our hands for profit.

Next season is starting to sound very exciting!

One of the things a lot of them are whining endlessly about is the potential price, given how many teams have been sniffing around/wanted him/offered higher sums previously. HOWEVER, their local BBC sports guy himself on twitter has been telling them this morning that none of that is true, and that contrary to popular opinion, none of those huge clubs who were rumoured over the years to be approaching for £15m, or whatever, ever actually did make any real approach.

So they really are chatting **** based on things they'd like to be true, but never were. Mild delusion breaking out across Derby.

Derby fans making the mistake of thinking because their attendance is bigger that means bigger. The fact is few clubs have any traction beyond their immediate catchment area. Close to London and in the Premier, we are simply in a bigger pond.

 

Massive step up from the Championship to the EPL especially in the central midfield area, where the press is so extreme.

Hes certainly not better than Abdi who struggled in that position ( in the few times QSF actually played him there)

 

Abdi had already begun transcending this plane of existence following promotion, what we saw in the Premier League was just his remaining physical form. With Hughes there is a much lower risk of this happening as there is no evidence of him having divine status.

I'd be inclined to disagree, when fit he is a regular starter for Derby, whereas, Abdi struggles to get minutes for Wednesday. He is also younger, so has potential to get better.

 

Derby are our Bitches, sell them the dross and buy the family jewels at Del Boy prices.

Be a shame because he's a solid squad player who rarely let's you down.

 

Agreed on the above - been a really good servant for the club, from the second half of the promotion season, he played a key role in keeping us in the prem first season. But ultimately the upgrading of the midfield and if we do complete the deal for Hughes, will see the need to keep him diminish somewhat (even from the homegrown perspective). He would do a very good job for a championship club and has a minimum of 2 / 3 years left in him.

 

He isn't good enough to playing in this league, let alone for a team aspiring to do more than just battle relegation, which I would expect us to be this season.

 

Still can't believe we're letting a dirty little bunch of championship bottlers get anywhere near a penny of our TV revenue. They should beg us to take their most prized young starlet off them for free.
