Who will finish higher..Watford or Everton

  1. West Brom weren't actually that bad. Better than Everton. Better than Chelsea actually! Plus they play each other plus Burnley are away to us.

    It's on!

What has surprised me is you can get 50/1 on Burnley for 6th. If we beat Arsenal you can see them completely imploding.

I agree about West Brom, I thought they looked the same standard as many teams we've played this season.
They clearly have no confidence as you would expect from their dreadful run, which started about this time last season.
It would be great to have a top 10 finish, especially if it is above Neverton.

It’s going from relegation talk to UEFA Cup talk in a week that makes this place brilliant reading.

And it will always be the UEFA Cup. Always.

Nah....the Inter Cities Fairs Cup for me. I saw the Arse win it one year at Highbury (1970 I think) against Anderlecht. I decided to go that morning (I was at college in London), turned up, queued and, amazingly, got into the North Bank. It was just over a fortnight after Watford played there in the 3rd/4th place play-off, mentioned in another thread. 50,000 odd for the ICFC and 14,000 odd (some very odd) for the FA Cup tie.....

I also saw Chelsea beat Barcelona 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in 1966 in the semi-final. No penalties in those days, a replay was needed and Barcelona won the toss - as I recall straight after the match while the crowd was still leaving - and won that game 5-0! Leeds also had a replay, won the toss and lost at Elland Road. Good.

Birmingham City also played in 2 finals against Barcelona and Roma and lost them both. How the (relatively) mighty are fallen.

The ICFC (not organised by UEFA) was discontinued in 1971 after English clubs had won the last 4 finals (Leeds twice - more fallen giants).

You no doubt would know this but the first year English clubs entered European competition was 1955 (56 for the European cup as Chelsea had been barred by the FA from entering in 55)
As you probably also know only one side from any one city could play in the Fairs cup so a London x1 were entered. Their first game was away to a Basel x1.. London running out 5-0 winners with a certain Cliff Holton of Arsenal scoring a hatrick. He was piped to the first goal by Charlton's Eddie Firmani, who scored 2 minutes ahead of him. But as Firmani was born in South Africa.. and represented Italy, i think im right in saying that Cliff Holton was the first Englishman to score in European club football. By the time that Fairs cup had reached the final (it was played over 3 years) Holton was not far off a move to Vicarage Road.. and 4th division football.

It's getting interesting (the contest for 7th or even 6th if Arsenal keep capitulating to the lesser lights).

A draw at The Emirates (Arsenal 0 Watford 0) will probably best suit Burnley.

Because of our injuries to our 2 most creative midfielders (neither Defour nor Brady will play again this season) I think Leicester will get 7th.

Lol, creative midfielders. We all know Burnley midfielders are there to watch the ball fly over their heads, run around a lot and pick up second balls from whatever lump is playing up front for you at the time.

Everton won't finish in the top 10. All that hype, and they'll be back where they were under Roberto Martinez lol. As for us, we either need to pick up a few points at a top 6 club, or win all the rest to get Europe. Unfortunately I don't see that happening, we'll probably finish 9th, 5pts adrift of 7th. Would have shagged Deeney for that in August (and January), but I can't pretend it wouldn't come without a large dollop of regret

  9. maybe they are good at water colours painting or poetry?

Big Sam called their 1-0 win tonight fantastic - not sure the Everton fans will agree.

The chap at the game for Talks**** said Duncan Ferguson was decidedly umpty with BFS, as he thought the team were too negative.
That would be a longer fight than Amir Khan!

Some rank performances from Everton last night. Bolassie was unbelievably poor and hard to see how Davies and Calvert-Lewin gave a premier future based on their incredibly weak sub performances. What a poor side they are given the money spent. If Sam thought that was “fantastic” he is in delusion mode.

He's just trying to agitate the Everton fans so he can get sacked, receive his payout and retire again. Until the next club throwing money at him comes along.

Anyone else excited for a whole summer of BFS saying he did an amazing job and didn’t deserve to be sacked? And then a few weeks later England getting dumped out of the WC and him doing the exact same thing?

    Good times.
