I'm constantly forgetting to pay small sums that are due on future dates. The big payments I don't forget.
I expect this was just a minor admin issue rather than any concerted attempt to underpay someone given the small size of the payment and the potential benefit in not paying it. Not great, poor admin.

The hierarchy earning the club a transfer ban and then getting it lifted a few days later by actually doing their job - which is exactly what most people predicted would happen - really isn't the win you seem to think it is.

So if the commenters quoted really deep down knew that it was a non-issue, it makes the pant-wetting even more embarrassing! Thanks for clarifying

Someone literally said they ‘ couldn’t wait ‘ to see how another supporter explained this away. So their first thought was excitement at that prospect. If that doesn’t come across as desperation to score points then what does ?

Who said it was a win? It's just not the disaster that some are desperate for it to be.

I haven't read every post in this thread so if apologies in advance if I've missed them but I don't think I've seen any posts saying the ban was a disaster. It became clear fairly early on that it was a small fee outstanding and that once the fee was paid the ban would be lifted as per FIFA's regulations.

The reaction of most seemed to be anger and frustration at the hierarchy once again trying to short change other organisations and further sullying the club's already pathetic reputation in the footballing world. The fact that it was over something small and inconsequential that could and has been so easily rectified makes it even more mindless.

It's an administrative error so insignificant that it received no traction whatsoever in the press, and resulted in a transfer ban that had zero ramifications for our recruitment. It should have been treated as such, but wasn't, by some, because they are actively looking for things to get annoyed by.

It's ludicrous to suggest that fans shouldn't have strong opinions on their club being placed under an international transfer ban by FIFA, especially in our case when it follows exactly the sort of pattern of behaviour that we've come to expect from the current hierarchy.

An administration error that got as far as FIFA? There must have been something before this, they don’t just throw around transfer bans without reason

Also, do FIFA settle these issues FOC or do we have to pay their legal fees too?

No, not a disaster but entirely avoidable

And so it happened bang on time. Step forward Wendover. First it was fake. Then it was a clerical error. Then it was both fake and a clerical error!

I find a proportion of the fanbase strange. Watching their mental gymnastics as the ownership stumble from one incompetence to another is great viewing.

In the grand scheme of things, no lasting damage done.

However, symbolically it only adds to the growing suspicion that as a club we are getting a lot of things wrong of late, be it due to ineptitude or worse.

We do come across quite often as being rather schizophrenic. We make a lot of effort to hire a highly rated Technical Director to beef up our recruitment but then have a few days where technically we are banned from recruiting. We try to foster good team spirit but then refuse to pay player bonuses or bill the players for food in the canteen. We take a club to court for not paying us but then get done for not paying one ourselves.

    Etc.

    Agree with this.

In isolation, it’s a nothing burger.

Considered against the wider context of how we’ve operated in recent years, it’s a continuation of a disappointing trend.

Great post. Sums up the clowns who run this club at present. There is not one rule for them and one for everyone else.

Did we not have a transfer ban ? is it not embarrassing ? Funny how it got sorted so quickly all of a sudden . The fact is, that in isolation this issue is of course forgivable and mistakes happen, and I am sure there were difficulties in communication…. But add that to the overall mismanagement of the club since the FA Cup final and quite frankly it’s another sign that the administration in charge at Watford are neglectful at best

Maybe Duxbury is using this as a bargaining tool to Gino, saying if you paid be £1m a year, instead of the measly £937k, this type of thing wouldn’t happen as I’d check my spreadsheet more often.

It can’t be a coincidence that since we’ve employed Giaretta after sacking Giraldi, everything has gone down the pan. Honestly think he’s a nightmare. I can’t stand the guy.

I would honestly rather Giraldi back than this idiot!

So you think, it’s not a bad thing to happen? Thats what I’ve asked in my post.

I don’t know how you’ve slipped through the ignore list filter, but please do carry on apologising for the continued shaming of our club in the football world by those at our club - at least I hopefully won’t be able to see it.

They are both poor, but Giaretta is steeling a living for sure. We’ve pretty much been on a slow decline ever since Nani left us, but a steep decline since Giaretta joined. Can’t for the life of me understand why Gino keeps him on. Maybe some type of care in the community scheme?

When the transfer ban is over quicker than the length of time it takes a pint of milk to go bad, than yes, I believe, some of the reactions were over the top.

I agree. This type of thing doesn’t just get to FIFA without a lot of hurdles being jumped. Sounds like it was the club’s last resort in an attempt to get some money out of Watford.

I think Gino was trying to shaft a small club but got kicked for doing it, and the ban was probably something he didn’t expect. I don’t buy into an administration error. Just think the club were being mean and got what they deserved for trying it.

As you’re already fully aware, the eventual duration of the ban has nothing to do with the point that I and many others in this thread are making.

You don't think the length of a transfer ban is important when discussing the severity of...a transfer ban?

I agree it's poor. I agree it's a bad look. But due to the length of the transfer ban, I personally don't see the value of getting particularly upset about it.

The whole thing is overblown. An international transfer ban over 3500 pounds (assuming AllNigeria are correct) is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, even if the non-payment was malicious. It's far more likely that someone in the finance department simply screwed up, though.
