Doing well at Aberdeen - getting regular football.

Seems to be popular up there but then probably not hard to look decent in that league.

That Preston game was last day of the season I think.

Remember we lost 2-0 the day Princess Di got killed as well.

Also didn’t we play them on the ITV Digital thing - Thursday night ?

Yes. The stagnant **** of the last two games suggests that an effervescent chemistry is burgeoning.

My only trip there was on the first day of the season in 2005 when we lost 2-1 after Henderson had put us in front. Horrendous traffic on the M6 so only had time for a couple of cans of Stella on the street. My mate spent the whole game having verbal with a bloke over in the home end who looked like Jesus (well the version that's peddled in the west - no one in the middle east actually looks like that).

I think it's only fair to point out that PNE reached the FA Cup final in 1964 and were 2-0 up before West Ham came back to win 3-2.
If I remember correctly their goalkeeper was injured, but of course there were no subs in those days. So credit where credit's due.

We're at home so we will probably win, much to the chagrin of our whining fans who will skillfully explain how the win is somehow a negative.

Obviously I would like the same formation as the Bristol game, but with Deeney or Perica in place of Gray.

Sarr looks like he desperately needs a rest. It seems he is undroppable due to being Sarr, but he is a human and I think he needs a break. It would be controversial to rest him, but at some point it needs to happen. Certainly using him as impact sub in this one wouldn't be a terrible idea.

    Prediction

    Watford 3-2 Preston NE
Deeney (pen 88, pen 90+1, pen 90+6, sent off 90+6); Deeney (og 22, og 78)

Dull but we will take it.

Was 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 to PNE before Wham scored twice including a 90th minute winner

It may have already been mentioned, but Preston's away record this season is:

    P6 W4 D1 L1

Being half arsed may not cut it against the Lilypads.

Just seen this on their forum:

"On an unrelated note, their performances and results this season are embarrassing. They’re playing with an entire established prem squad and are struggling to score more than a goal a game on the most part"

Can't argue with that really. We are an utter embarrassment. Ivic has been a catastrophic error.

I'm sure this has been said before, but you do know no one is forcing you to watch these games? It doesn't seem to bring you any pleasure.

Yes - I'm glad somebody timed it. That opening episode was, more or less, a preview of the entire match.

PNE had a very good midfielder named Ian Davidson who was a regular but was dropped for the final in place of some 17-year-old called Howard Kendall. Davidson missed the match because he missedthe previous game in order to avoid injury, claiming that he had to go to Scotland for the funeral of his granny who, it turned out, wasn't dead or if she was, hadn't died recently.

Went up there with a daughter and visited their Football League Museum* before the match - moderately interesting: Lots of 1880's 'shirts' and international caps and what have you. Can't remember anything about the match, though, but it was years ago.
*(Under the Tom Finney Stand? I understand it has moved to Man U now). (Of course).

Finney used to finish his work as a plumber, get on the bus and travel to Deepdale so they say.
I wonder what he did for away games?

Not only was he a famous footballer but he also made it as a plumber. This is only from a distant memory, but I believe he ran a company employing about 50 people. No big wages to get that going, either.

Reminds me of the Shankly tale when asked who was better,Finney or Keegan.
Bill thought for a minute and then replied " Keegan but Tom is 64 now".

The records of these two clubs don't compete: PNE: Founder-members of THE Football League (I think there were only 11 others). Twice League champions. Twice Cup winners. Also War Cup winners. 5 times Cup finalists. & a whole load of other stuff from further down the divisions. It may be be a long time ago, but we will never catch up with that. Respect.

I hope Vlad sets us up to attack for one. Away teams during this covid affected time that have long journeys on match day, do seem to struggle and we need take the game to them.
I'm not happy with our form but in a game like this, if we have a right go and get a good win, it might just be kick-start to raise the players Confidence and desire....
