Watford FC V Ipswich Town FC 21/3/2015 I get the relatively unique position of being able to write this with Watford in first place in the Championship. We face an Ipswich side who many tipped to be in the top 2 come the end of the season. They have an excellent manager in Mick McCarthy but find themselves, in this strange, close season in 7th position and outside the playoffs. Probably due to some extent to injuries to a smallish side, and the strength of the opposition at the top of the league this year. On Tuesday they scrapped past Bolton 1-0 with a late Jay Tabb goal (he’ll probably start against us on Saturday then) I asked my blues supporting friend and long time season ticket holder Alli her opinion of their prospects for the weekend: Likely team: Bialkowski in goal Then any ten from the following: Mings, Berra, Smith, Chambers Bishop, Parr, Skuse, Tabb, Bru Sears and Murphy Sears has managed to make the step up from a rather lacklustre division one Colchester and Murphy scores for fun seemingly. The midfield chip in a lot with goals and their defence seems reasonably solid. Mings was meant to have gone off the boil and is equal booboy with Smith. They tend to switch formation during games going from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3 depending on circumstances We can just about finish off their season by beating them – itll mean automatics are probably out of the question with the rest of the quality around and their squad exhausted. They fear us as a bogey team as well I am going to plump for a 2-2 draw. Parr and Sears for them Deeney x2 for us.
Sears has been a great signing for them, and Mick has done an incredible job, considering how much money he has spent (under 1 mil on the entire first team I believe). But with our form, their away form, and their form at the Vic in recent years, I have to go for a close home win.
I like Mick. You'll get no Malky/Clarke-style BS from him after the match even if we've stuffed 'em. Which, of course, we will.
We should win. Our one weakness is reacting to opposition scoring, so if Ipswich score at a good time for them, we may find it tough.
Ipswich's form has been all over the place recently, I think we will win but it will be one of those where we make it hard for ourselves, 2-1
Any news on Cathcart injury as he limped off on Tuesday. Fast becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet
Just recently according to the lads at the local they have become a bit devoid of attacking ideas with a lot of hoofing it up to Murphy and hoping either him or Sears will get space from the knockdown. Very hard working workman like side as you'd expect from MM but a bit lacking in flair. if we are on our game can see us winning this 3-1
Really? I actually think that is one of our strengths. Even so, I can only see a comfortable victory for the home team heading into a two week break and a chance to catch a breath.
We absolutely shat ourselves when Reading reserves pulled a goal back to make it 3-1! Norwich's pen ruined us, we should have refocused and got our foot back on the ball. I could go on. I don't want to sound negative and it's just my opinion. But, as I said I consider this pretty much our ONLY weakness right now!
Blackpool home, Brentford away, Bolton away, Leeds away, Wolves away. I'm sure there's more but we got a pretty good reaction from the team to going behind in these games.
I can see nothing other than a footballing masterclass as we warm up for life in the Prem. 4-0 to the Orns.
Ipswich using this as there big day out with there inflatables I see! Could atleast make a connection by doing it at Brighton, Blackpool or Bournemouth :naughty:
I'd be amazed if Ipswich didn't come for a point. They'll defend in numbers and try and score a set-piece. I'd put Iggy in for Vydra, as he's more effective in this kind of game and start FF.
could we sell out for this ? , just managed to get a ticket in the rookery ,looks pretty full .rest of the ground filling up ,should be a great atmosphere .we need to play our part and get it rocking .COYH
Very very few seats left in the rookery, the entire middle 4 blocks have sold out (except 3 scattered seats in RS7.) expect alot of people this weekend.
I'm really excited about Saturday. It's been a while since I've spent the week counting down until Saturday because I'm so looking forward to listening to the game. Which of course means we'll suffer an embarrassing and lackluster defeat.
Then again they probably need to win to keep up the play-off push which would suit us to the ground. Hopefully we won't have the same sort of problems with their physical style as we had at Portman Road.
Ipswich have new injures, Bishop is out/not training and Parr is a doubt. Atleast a few other players doubtful according to twitter
I just watched their highlights from the other day and Bolton probably should have scored about 5 goals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm6dgcCJyMQ&feature=youtu.be - if anyone else is as bored as me.
Tbh - they're not in the tip 6 anymore are they? Doesn't that mean we don't get 3 points for beating them?
