That is truly insane. I made my own stat up in another thread as well. We’ve been in the relegation zone all season, but in five games against Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd we’ve only lost one game. Truly a crazy season.

I think it was because of the away game - foster was (perceived to be) wasting time all match

result was about right, happy with a point

Dawson and Cathcart look a very assured partnership at the back, not a lot of fuss or both, but never looked in any trouble either

Well if that happens anywhere else around the pitch, a corner, throw-in, goal-kick etc is always given. It's seen as going out of play.

Technically it hasn't fully gone over the line according to the system, but is anything really that accurate...to the millimetre? You've got to allow for a small margin of error. Of course I'm happy it wasn't given today, but had that been us at the other end, I'd feel gutted to not have a goal when it's just the plastic ball coating that has stopped it from being a goal.

Personally, I think if 51% of the ball is over the line, it should be a goal.

I'm not sure but didnt we have a very close call on a goal disallowed by Hawkeye against Spurs on our 15/16 season Christmas time

This doesn’t make any sense lol.

If the whole ball is over the line it’s a goal, that’s the law.

When you have technology that can conclusively determine if it’s over the line or not why not use it?

Goal line technology is perfect and one of the few things the footballing authorities has got right over the years.

I think it was the 2009 league cup final when he was in goal for ManU and it went to penalties after ending 0-0 with Foster then saving 2 of 3 Spurs attempts with United winning 4-1 and he got MoM

Yes...I know it's the law. But I think as long as the majority of the ball is over the line, then a goal should be awarded. Just my opinion.

Pussetto - very difficult moment to suddenly make a debut. Looked a bit like Sarr in his first couple of matches; taken by surprise by the intensity, physicality and pace of the premier league. But, as others have said, showing real commitment in getting back to make those millimetres matter ... and Sarr has adapted very quickly under Pearson. So refreshing to listen to Pearson's extended measured, analytical and honest comments after the game at the press briefing, such a contrast from the guff we've had from head coaches over recent years...

I would change that law if I had the power. Nothing to do with GLT. I'm talking about at what point you should decide the ball is enough over the line for a goal to be awarded. Fully over the line is the law right now, but I would change it to the majority of the ball. That would keep it in line with all other decisions along the line when corners, throw-ins etc are awarded when most of the ball is over the line, but not fully.

It's too close, and you would need a margin of error. That extra 1% clearance would ensure the majority of the ball is over. 50.1% to 50.9% is too marginal. Tough luck if it's 50.9%, but you've got the draw the line somewhere.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, as they won't change the law, but I think in the spirit of creating more goals, this would do that. It's just a thought and my opinion.

True. Plenty of people still moan about Cathcart, Dawson, Mariappa etc. but when organised well they are solid and dependable. I looked at the Watford twitter today to get team news and underneath there were loads of comments hysterical that Kabasele wasn't playing over 'championship level defenders'.

A reminder that Mariappa and Cathcart were the mainstays of a defence that finished 11th and got to a cup final last season and have played a huge part in us having kept a joint league high 8 clean sheets this season. We should have an eye on the next step and upgrading, but right now they are a solid and dependable defence.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the form of our defenders of late and great credit has to be given to them for their form. But, they are the same players who have been so dreadful for years now. That back four is largely Championship, let's not kid ourselves. But even with Championship players you can produce something good, as we're seeing now.

Anyone who had been critical in the past over the defence, had every right, because they were so dreadful. As long as they are given credit when it's due, then it's fair.

So what is the truth? Were they all selling us short in the past, or are they now overachieving?

Either way, we do still need to upgrade the backline in the summer, but these guys are doing great right now, and rightly deserve the praise they are getting.

We had huge problems at the start of the season with balls inside the full backs - same players, give or take, dont have the same problem because the relevant centre back covers and we look so much more solid. Pearson gets all the credit but a chunk should go to Shakespeare

Nothing to add to what's been said.

NP & CS have got the team playing like a top 10 side within a calendar month. It's almost unbelievable man management. They are astute & tactically on point too. I put also put that partially down to them both knowing more & having a greater level of understanding about the opposition players/subs than QSF or Javi G ever could.

Focus on ourselves, keep up the same consistency & we should be home & dry.

Defence have done very well under Pearson. However I still thought Mariappa was poor second half today. Gave the ball away and shanked passes quite a few times. I’ve no issue with him being a squad member but him being a regular starter over the last 3 seasons to me shows that Giraldi is completely failing at his job.
