Woods was onside for that goal. Got very lucky. A draw was probably the right result on overall balance of play though.
That was the worst game of the season by a mile. We were abysmal. Burnley are Burnley. One thing - how were there only 4 minutes time added on? I think the physio was on for over 4 minutes before accounting for the time wasting and subs.
This games deserves to be last on MOTD. Dragged down to Burnley's level and unable to dictate midfield. No wonder Deulofeu and Pereyra were non existent. If you cannot have quality service from midfield nothing will happen. Gracia did not make the right change to bring in Quina. For not being at his best Doucoure was missed with his driving runs and ability to gain the ball and use it wisely forwards. Cleverley is still rusty. Several players looked rusty and ineffectual. Stop the Sema experiment on the right and let him play on the left and give Pereyra a central role to get him more involved and Deulofeu out wide. Capoue, Holebas, Kiko and Foster good games the rest pretty average although the forwards can be excused as we allowed Burnley to win virtually all the secondary balls. One thing at least the defence was pretty well drilled today.
Rubbish game. But I’ll take a point. I don’t understand why Burnley kept on time wasting when they looked most likely to score.
Talk about being dragged down to the opponents' level. How do Burnley fans watch that every week? Attritional, clogging, percentage football with enough 'game management' to make Aidy blush. Full on time wasting after 8 mins away to Watford? **** off out of the top flight football if that's your game plan. I assume Michael Oliver only added on 4 minutes because he wanted it over - though even if he'd have added on 40 it would still end 0-0. We just didn't have a clue how to deal with them today. Bobby P completely anonymous - more so than usual. Worrying we lost probably our best threat from out wide when Femenia limped off. It showed what we'll miss when Doucoure eventually goes too. Crucial we replace him with as similar a player as we can afford, as no one else in the squad is as consistently dynamic as he can be.
It's not easy to recall a performance as poor Gracia got it all wrong today and so did the players Sema should not get near our starting 11 again, congratulations to Giraldi he managed to replace Amrobat with a player even worse, at the same time as shipping Lukebakio off to Germany Round of applause for the idiot
I seriously doubt there was a worse game played in the whole country today, I'm talking local pub leagues also. When was the last time Bobby P effectively challenged for a 50 / 50 ball?
Best thing today is Foster’s interview when he laughed out loud that they weren’t offside. We got lucky with that - but loved his honest laugh!
This is where a lot of my frustration comes from this season. We have drawn or lost too many games, throwing away leads, failing to perform against "weaker" sides like we have again today, that has meant we haven't gone and really grabbed hold of this 7th place. It's completely there for the taking.
What an awful, awful game. And we started so well. Some neat passing; fast, probing, attacking football. Deulofeu needs to improve his one-on-ones. He misses one every game. Then we got dragged down to their level. It was a horrible game to watch. The time wasting, the cynical fouls, the diving, the nasty challenges (has Ashley Barnes ever not led with his elbow when going for a header?). Michael Oliver let them get away with it all. Nasty piece of work he is. Clearly has something against us and it blinds his decision making every time. After the game became scrappy we lost our way completely. Weren’t smart enough to outplay them or physical enough to stand up to them. Kabasele was all over the shop. Mariappa got bullied. Sema isn’t very good. At least I don’t have to watch Burnley again this season. I hope they get relegated down the football league where their unsporting gamesmanship belongs.
We were 5h1te today. Looked like Kabby the clown was marking Mapps more than Woods, his positioning was all over the shop. How we didn’t concede today was purely down to luck. Britos looked much more solid than kabby & Mapps, he deserves a start next week. Normally Dyche spouts a load of bollox in his post match interview. If he says he can’t believe Burnley didn’t win and had a goal wrongly chalked off at the end, I won’t disagree. Apart from foster and Britos, the rest were crap. Definitely a point gained... WE GO AGAIN
A frightening snapshot into the post Doucoure era. A diabolical performance. I have sympathy for Gracia in so much as due to Pozo’s budget ways he is forced to field absolute garbage Sema and Mariappa in the first team. On top of that Delefeou was abysmal and petulant. Pereyra was anonymous. Cleverly and Kabasele were poor but coming back from injury. I thought Capoue, Kiko, Foster and Deeney player well. Britos did himself no harm as at least he actually attacks the ball unlike Mariappa. Burnley timewasting was ridiculous. Constant wasting time from the 5th minute which was bizarre considering they were the better team and more likely winner. Dyche is an utter embarrassment to instruct that. What a coward.
Ghastly. I hate Dyche’s Burnley, with further hindsight a brilliant Pozzo decision to sack him despite his subsequent achievements.
We'll be so far at the end that they might as well just show the three chances for both sides at the end of MoTD2 tomorrow
The performance was bad but whoever booed at the end needs to get a grip. We came away with a point knowing that they had a rightful goal disallowed for being offside, we sit 7th and all our competing teams got poor results too (apart from Wolves). A lack of shape, a poor line up and proper Burnleh tactics were the cause of the way we played today. We need to take results like that on the chin and move on; every week is different for us.
Off day, they happen. First 5 minutes we should've been 2-0 up. Then we got dragged to their level and started hoofing to Deeney. Mainly because we don't have centre backs (Mariappa) comfortable passing so they just hoof to Troy. Deulofeu is an idiot, ability aside, just utterly irritating and dislikeable. Performance wise, should've scored, three or four shocking crosses too. Deeney was good I thought, could've scored great save. Femenia played well. Capoue excellent again - POTS by a mile. Pereyra was in Torino. Isaac Success is the most useless player in the world ever, why did we repeatedly hit long balls at him when he failed to control any? Will never develop into a good player, send him on loan. Good point overall, Burnley missed some absolute sitters, they would've nicked it on another day so well ground out if we're looking for positives. We move on. Leicester, West Ham & Everton all lost so a good day really. We'll beat a Spurs side missing Son, Kane, Lucas & Sissoko!
Deulofeu's early misses always come in games where it costs us - Newcastle (home and away), Southampton away and now today. We've taken three points from those games, against teams near the bottom. If he'd put all of them away, we could've taken 12 points as they'd have had to come out and play, and we could've relaxed and attacked the spaces. What I don't understand is that it's the same every time, in through the inside right channel, run in on the keeper and just tamely hit it across them for an easy save. Someone needs to get hold of him and tell him he obviously can't finish that way so he might as well blast it.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is what our football matches will look like without Doucoure. Newcastle and Burnley, points down the drain, albeit lucky not to lose both.
Doubt it. The whole VAR team would have slipped into a coma before the hour was up watching that. Oliver would be calling asking them to double check the linos call and just get static back.
Quiz time: 1) When have we ever played 8 games in the top flight in a row and only lost one game? 2) Have we ever gone eight games in the top flight without losing one game?
Cant remember the exact words. It was more the look on his face. And I have to say Heaton next to him - they looked looked like good pals. Heaton didn't seem too miffed by the offside/onside goal - just a man doing his job
