Fine I think. WBA hate Wolves the most with Villa a close second. To my understanding, the rivalty with Birmingham is the least big of the three.

How long does Troy have left on his contract? One year or two?

He signed a 5 year deal in July 16. Unless it’s been extended then it’s 1

so really a loan deal is a goodbye anyway. gets his wages off the books for a year and he leaves with a handshake and thanks for the great memories.

that’s good enough for me. we got our moneys worth out of his 500k transfer fee.

We certainly did get our money’s worth. Don’t understand the nastiest towards Troy, but it is time to move on

There's only nastiness from pr1cks. Unfortunately most of them congregate on this forum.

I think initially I would be disappointed to see him play for another team however its for the best. Troy has been massively on the decline for a long time now and he is injured regularly he is 32 and doesn't seem as fit anymore, he was never fast but he is much slower than he once was. We simply cant justify paying him the wages he gets anymore, in all honesty even in the Prem it was probably too much considering the impact he was making.

Troy has been an amazing player for us over the past decade.

I would imagine he’s also been a vital cog in the wheel behind the scenes since the Pozzo takeover. So many new players and so many different coaches and yet he’s been the one constant. I would guess that as club captain he’s played a big role in trying to integrate the newcomers.

Part of me would be sad to see him go because I’d like to think he could still do a job this coming season and I think in the league we are sadly now in, it’s important to have a British spine running through the team.

    However,

It’s hard to argue against those who say he’s been massively on the wane. This could be the start of a new era for us and it kind of feels like the right and natural time for a parting of the waves. A time for others to step up, both on and off the pitch.

I hope if he does leave us, his critics will be magnanimous enough to acknowledge his contribution to the club and our recent history. Football is all about the now. You only have to see the animosity to our owners to realise that. The happier more successful past doesn’t seem to matter if the present is full of mistakes, or current form is poor. But Deeney has given all of us as fans some of the best moments in our recent history and deserves to be remembered for them, more so than the not so athletic, annoyingly always seeming to be selected, only really scoring from penalties player of the past few months.

It's sad that his reputation has been somewhat tarnished by the past few seasons, if he'd have left a couple of years ago everybody would've been disappointed. I think his time has come and staying longer, particularly as a starter and self-appointed media spokesman, will just do more damage.

Just look at his goal vs Leeds at 30 seconds, could you honestly imagine him doing that now? He used to terrify defenders, even if he didn't get near them they'd panic and slice the ball out for a throw in. Now he's so off the pace they can have a nap before he catches them.

I'd love him to have another purple patch, but I just can't see it happening. West Brom might be the best outcome for all.

Have you met my wife? If you had, you’d never say that!

I’m also currently M.I.A - told her I was going to get us both ice cream. Currently sat having my second pint of Mythos outside a taverna. She’ll never know...(she already knows)...

Then we had Abdi - if we can find another of that quality in the Udinese squad, then maybe Deeney could have a cameo part this season

Watching old videos of Deeney, I mean he was never a speed machine, but he did used to have a bit of pace about him and could play a bit! Now? An injury prone static blob

As H-D mentioned above, what's the point in having a player capable of excellent through-balls like Abdi, when they're playing them through to Troy who'll never in a million years get on the end of them?

I'd like Deeney to stay and play in the Luton game, score the winner as a sign off, then join WBA.

He's one of the few in the squad who I think gets how much we want to smash those inbreds up the M1 and would put himself about. I'm guessing their team will be well up for it.

He’s made a rod for his own back by wanting to be a ‘a big man’ for some reason. He’s got a bit of a weird obsession with being perceived as a big guy, so has somewhat pigeon holed himself into being some sort of hold up player that bullies defenders because of his size and strength. One of the single most beneficial attributes in football is pace, an average player can cause all sorts of issues with pace. He should have consistently focused on having a physique that was geared to being light and nimble and most importantly, as fast as possible. As a striker, maintaining some sort of acceleration in his latter years would’ve stood him in much greater stead, rather than being obsessed with getting into physical battles with defenders and becoming nothing more than someone to lay off a long ball to another player.

With Doucoure, there's clearly a very good player there for someone who plays him in the right position. Deeney? He's not getting any younger, less injury prone, or more mobile now. I suppose he'd be a half decent 'cheap' option (in terms of a fee anyway, maybe he'll take a pay cut to go back home to the West Midlands?) as a player who has Premier League experience, but they won't be getting the player he was 5/6 years ago

Just had a look, West Brom scored 77 in the league (joint second with Leeds) so scoring wasn't really an issue, but they really spread them around, their top scorers in the league were Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin with 10 each (and some of those were pens),can they keep relying on everyone chipping in or do they need a top striker? Austin like Deeney is also not as fit as he was a couple of years ago when he was a really good striker
