[RELEASED] Troy Deeney

I think this has been discussed before and the reason is simply that he had his knee surgery and was recovering throughout QSF’s spell in charge. So the stats prove nothing other than QSF is a terrible manager.

 

I have no idea what each players contract is regarding taking a drop in wages for getting relegated to the Championship, but you would like to think that something was in place for everyone, including Deeney

I would hate to see Deeney stay and accept that he would be back up, i want every player to want to be in the 1st 11, to work and play hard enough to be in the 1st 11. The day any player settles for being back up then they are no use to the team or club anymore.

that is the trouble with causation and correlation

My instinct is that Deeney was a big positive for us and also that QSF is a poor manager - but your numbers prove nothing

 

Yeah if only we had Troy against city, we might have won 8-9.

 

Article today (admittedly from the Mail) states otherwise - he has no obligation to take a cut

It isn't about accepting he is back up, its about not kicking up a stink if he is like he did under Mazzarri.

For whatever reason it seems to be very difficult for managers to drop him (e.g. Welbeck played miles better than him post-restart and still Deeney started even though he was injured and in woeful form).

Suarez scored 14 non-penalty goals last season. Deeney scored 3. He is a young lad on an upwards trajectory. Deeney is old (by player standards) and has been very much on the decline. Despite that I have no doubt that if both are here next season Deeney is starting up top.

 

I'm all for stats, but ffs, these ratings are just completely arbitrary, you need the eye test too. It was clear as day that Deeney was ineffective last season, maybe Welbeck would have done a better job, although our players aren't exactly van Dijk and David Silva so it probably would have been more of the same

 

In fairness clubs data systems that can tell them more useful things than simply raw pass completion stats or distance run. Distance run could even be a bad thing if you run unnecessarily or because your first touch is so bad

 

I agree . But stats should only be used in conjunction with what someone sees with their own eyes .

 

There are a number of stats that also make Deeney look not only poor for us but places him very near the bottom of effective strikers in the whole of Europe who have played a certain number of games. Leventhal did a whole piece on it.

I could not care less if Deeney shoots his mouth off all over the place if he’s doing his job on the pitch. I rate his ability as a footballer way before I consider other factors.

 

Relegation.

 

Whatever happened to his operation? Did it actually go ahead? Or was that all a load of ********?

 

Yes. Because he is now blocking the pathway for others in terms of his starting position and leadership. It’s time to move on. If it’s bumpy to start off with, so be it. But I didn’t think he brings enough to the party these days for any downturn to be lasting or even recognisable really.

 

Because he’s not longer good enough to play a different style! It surely can’t be lost on you how when we do play on the deck, he’s constantly out of position and behind play?!

A proper club legend obviously but the time has come for us to part ways. Probably one of the most important players in the clubs history and that Leicester goal will never be forgotten.

 

They have Deeney for that, always straight at the goalie. Works for penalties though.

 

Really enjoyed the four episodes so far of his documentary just watched them back to back now.

i remember being in the ground for this. we had played non stop highlights of the deeney goal before the game, we couldnt have pumped up the leicester players more if we had tried.

 

Be careful, Watford fans HATE it when concrete facts disprove a popular narrative.

 

Didn't Harry the Hornet even "recreate" the goal all on his own. Just knew that they were going to batter us after that.

 

As much as others hate having their favourite players and owner justifiably criticised?

He'd be a good option in the Championship, where he will get a bit more time. Not sure we could find an adequate replacement with the money we'd receive for him.

But if he wants to move on and we need the cash, then I won't be too fussed.
