Shame, thought he could do a job at Wuhan. Maybe a team in Qatar building the excitement for next years World Cup.

I suppose it's not impossible he might take a wage cut to move to Brum and finish his career there if he's as much of a Bluenose as he's always said.

    Won't hold my breath though.

He has been there enough on holiday. So with expensive lawyers he’s already had a travel waiver granted. Can’t see it being an issue.

Guess he might just go on loan somewhere then join them next season if he really wants to.

ESTA requirements for exceptions are somewhat less stringent than applying for a full visa (ESTA falls under the visa waiver scheme). You might get a waiver under ESTA but fail to qualify for a work visa, for example.

Troy's sentence falls under the definition of a crime that would potentially be disqualifying for a visa, as he was sentenced to more than 6 months and the max possible penalty for the offense is more than 12 months.

US immigration is a fair bit more strict on approving applications that come with work permit rights or can potentially lead to permanent residency. They're happy to let people in for a short period to spend money on the US economy, though.

I know all about it as I’m in the process of applying for a travel waiver.

Now trumps out I can see it relaxing slightly but I agree with what your saying. However these boys can afford d the top lawyers. Money talks

Interesting tweet from the club. Troy could be on the move. Would be a sad event, but based on realism for both parties.

He’ll be mutually released. He clearly wants game time and the club clearly won’t guarantee it.

No way they release statements like that if there’s a chance he’s stays. It’ll just be about ‘how’ he exits.

That’s bizarre. Why make a statement until there’s something concrete to announce?
For a club that’s usually so obfuscate about all goings-on, that is perhaps a bit too open!

Just don’t pay off his ridiculous salary please, Watford. If a club will take him, fine. If he wants to walk, fine. But we shouldn’t have to pick up the tab to facilitate it.

The comments are far more concerning than the tweet, it’s scary just how many of our fans are either blind, stuck in the past, or both.

I think it’s a psychological thing, apparently some people get stuck wearing clothes from a certain era, a certain hairstyle, or listening to a specific era of music because it represents a period in their life when they felt their best. It makes them feel good about themselves and almost like they can freeze time at a point they were happiest and in their prime as a coping mechanism for getting old.

I think there is a lot of that with Deeney, people remember the good times, they can’t accept they’re over and desperately want to cling on to that period in Watford’s history.

He deserves all our respects for what he’s done for the club and should leave with his head held high, but there is not a universe where he has a positive role to play in this team anymore.

Or they mutually decide that this will be his last season at the club. But, yes, the above is most likely.

Writing off the last year of his contract gives him flexibility - he could retire.

Wow, I did not expect the club to officially announce that! Very bold move. As @Burnsy said, that statement clearly points towards a mutual termination. I really hope all our fans show him the honor and respect he deserves. Like him or not, he is a watford legend and he put watford on the map!

Loan him out to Brum, we pay most of his wages but they pay us a fixed sum if they get promoted.

They are probably trying to get to a point where he can go to Birmingham on a free - by paying up a % of his contract

The flaw in that is that they definitely won’t get promoted with Deeney as their striker.

    Didn't expect that.

Jokes aside it really does make sense. We’ll get next to nothing for his £70k+ per week if he stays, we may as well agree an amount with him to terminate his contract early. I doubt we’ll just cut him adrift without him having an idea of who he can sign with and what they’ll pay him elsewhere. It will probably work out that both the club and Troy are better off financially than if he stayed, plus he’ll get game time.

End of an era. Was so very effective for us for many years. Injuries, age and other factors caught up with him in more recent times, but he will always be a Watford legend in my eyes.

Why does it matter so much what the fhese people think? If that's their 'coping mechanism', that's up to them.

It doesn’t matter, in the same way it doesn’t matter about anything that’s ever been written on here as ultimately it’s all meaningless and futile. I just personally find it bizarre how so many fans can remain so blinkered to the passage of time.

I posted the comment shown below in italics on the other Troy Deeney thread yesterday, so I thought I would put it on this one today as it could be quite relevant to the type of discussions going on between TD and the club right now: -

We'll probably let him go on a free if he wants to move on, because the great service he has given this club has probably earned him the right to go gracefully.
I don't think many, if any clubs in the PL or Championship would be willing to pay a fee for him, but someone might take a chance on him if he is a free agent. Therefore his pride might just make him go for it if someone was interested in signing him, even if it was on a lower wage than we are currently paying him.

I think he has finally admitted to himself that his best days are behind him, so if we let him go on a free that could be a decent way of letting him leave with his head held high and give him a chance to play out his career at a relatively decent level.

Whatever happens, thanks for the memories Troy you are a true WFC legend.

What a weird weird statement from the club, seemed completely unnecessary until there was something concrete.

When it comes to Deeney, the hierarchy go crazy with the press. Like he's the key to our worldwide popularity and one bad word on Talksport would mean the end of our chances of being on a bus in Timbuktu.

Didn't even release a statement about Mariappa leaving. Release a statement about a possible statement about Deeney.

    Wild.

I'll probably be the only contributor on here (certainly in the minority) that would actually be sad to see him go.

It looks like being a good day for the Deeney haters, but I hope even they show a bit of dignity if he does actually go, and hold back on the street party. He deserves all the respect and best wishes from fans.

However, he's only going to be a bench player this season, and if he cannot get his head around that, then it's only fitting the club let him have the choice over what he wants to do next. Personally, if we keep him and he's ok with taking a back seat. then that's a good outcome. If he goes, then I wish him every success where ever he ends up.

If he does go, it will free up a precious squad place. With Sissoko coming in, that means we'll have 25 senior players, even including the outgoings of Quina, Gray and Navarro, so no one else could come in. If Deeney goes, then there would be room for a CB or another MF.

Really we should just hand him back to them in appreciation of what Deeney has done for us over the years (excepting the last two years).

I'm just sad it couldn't have been done in a more dignified manner from both sides, at the end of either of the last two seasons would have been far better than this, granted Troy should have read the room, but this feels like 'off you ****, Troy', which is a sad way for a club legend to depart
