[RELEASED] Troy Deeney

Bye Troy. While he haven't been playing at his best for a few years now, he's a true Watford legend and stayed determined at all times. An amazing success story of how a player who isn't particularly gifted in any physical areas of the game can use his brain to create and score goals and turn not just his career, but his life around completely. His partnership with Ighalo must be one of our greatest ever, and the "Hogg... DEENEY" moment will always be synonymous with Watford. I'd love to see him stay around the club, maybe on Hive Live or as a coach in a few years, so he could pass his game intelligence and flashes of brilliance to future club legends. Being fairly young, I'd say that prime Troy is some of the best football I've ever seen in Watford. He was always much better when he played so that his teammates used him as a focal point in attack, as opposed to when the manager told them to hoof it up to him. He really doesn't deserve his reputation of being 'big and strong and bullying defences. He should have been recognised as someone with an amazing footballing brain and future management material.

As a fan I really appreciate the transparency here. It's good not to have to rely on rumours and speculation.

 

That, and they're doing Troy a solid by making it clear to other clubs that he'll be available on a free very shortly.

Given the window closes soon that might change the plans of some clubs.

Leaves a legacy but a very tainted one. Looked really poor in his outings for us this season and I am glad he and the club have seen sense at last.

He's been a very good servant to the club but I'm not sorry to see him go.

 

Well, since relegation apart from posts sbout Deeney, I spoke a lot about changing the leadership structure and mentality in the dressing room and this does seem to be happening which is fantastic. I believe these changes were instrumental in our promotion. If Deeney leaves it will hopefully cement these improvements. We need a dressing room full of leaders. I was also pretty much the only Watford fan who said Dennis should play #9 against Villa and last season I said we should play 433 with Sarr in a free role when we were playing atrocious football in a 442 with Deeney as #9. I've also been outspoken about Duxbury wanting to rebrand the club and am delighted that he now appears to be branding the club as itself which is exactly what he should have done all along. So yeah, if Deeney does leave I'm pretty sure I'll have something to write about. My first foray into online Watfordom was in 2005 when I tried to create a messianic aura around Aidy Boothroyd to help us get promoted and suggested an approach of playing without fear in the play offs as our route to the premier league. I think that went pretty well......

Plenty of memorabilia for the numbers of fans who hold a torch for him. He may go home to Brum where the heart is but won't end up as a bedsitter or down in the subway.

It’s bad timing for him really, as pre-Covid there were always championship clubs willing to chuck money around for players like him, but now they’ve all been virtually ground down into the dust it’s a different landscape altogether.

 

I don't really understand why so many people thing Munoz is clueless. The guy's record (so far) is excellent.

The nice thing about football is if you insist someone is crap for long enough, eventually you're right. All you have to do is stick to your guns for a bit and then claim victory when the inevitable happens.
