Why would anyone be as desperate as to sign a non-scoring, highly paid, 32 year old, unfit striker. I can't believe we have a hope of finding anyone so foolish even if we paid 50% of his salary. He should do the decent thing and just accept he's finished as a footballer and retire. We don't need someone to come on for 15 mins and barge a few defenders around. He's killing his legacy and it's genuinely sad to see.

 

I'm going for a record four head coaches this season.

 

Why was the priority not fitness in the first place whether here or elsewhere!??

 

I agree it’s no surprise whatsoever that clubs aren’t queuing around the block for him, but retirement is a bit premature.

 

Apparently to focus on mending and strengthening the knee.

 

But Deeney told us in The S*n that he’s fit and ready to play?! It’s almost as if someone somewhere is lying.

 

I am looking forward to seeing Sarr and Pedro sprint down the wings and ping excellent crosses into the box for nobody.

 

Difficult to get (stay) fit when you've spent your life being a food processor!

 

We saw enough of it already last season with Sarr and Troy to not need to witness any more.

 

Gray could be the answer if the crosses go within 1 metre of the goal, not even he could miss.....

What is your opinion?

 

As things stand, I think both players when fully fit will be valuable squad members, but not first choice starters, therefore my feelings are mixed about them staying.

My reason being that they are both now being overpaid because they are primarily going to be bench warmers and backup players, but on the plus side they both have vast experience and although past their best they will be valuable older heads to help out our young talented players coming through, as well as experienced impact subs and occasional stand ins for injured players.

 

WO saying it looks like Deeney is staying.

We will wait and see if he shafts the rest of the squad by whispering in Ivic's ear that he should start because he is a great player and a great leader and whether Ivic falls for it.

 

Agree with this. I also think Deeney makes a good captain and there's value in his ability to pressurise championship refs to our advantage.

He's proven and reproven as a goalscorer at this level and if he has got (another) bit between his teeth about humiliatingly not being wanted by Prem clubs (despite his come and get me plea and goalscoring boasts in the national press) then it's perfectly possible he could come roaring back and score 20 and more.

In which case, some of the posts on this thread will be quite embarrassing.

While he wears our shirt I'll be cheering him and hoping he tears up the division.

 

The amount of abuse for deeney here is disappointing. Yes he’s on high wages but if we play 2 up front this year he’s going to get 15+ goals and if we don’t get promoted it’s not his fault

I'd like to see Troy publicly acknowledge and support TC as captain and accept he's not gonna play every game. A fit and more humble Troy could have a positive impact on the squad. If he's still in Billy Big Bollox mode it's not gonna end well.

 

Not fussed if he stays or goes but certainly don't think he should be given the captaincy after wanting to leave. If he stays he'll no doubt score 10-15 goals over the season.

He was good and scored goals in the Championship 5+ years ago during his prime and the fact he is now way out of his prime, slower than a Windows 95 computer, constantly overweight, consistently unfit and has since developed an ego even bigger than his appetite really just isn't relevant. Will score at least 15, possibly 50. FACT.

We as Watford fans must always look to the past in order to desperately comfort (delude) ourselves in the present.
