It’s the opposite. People want to excuse him for the unfounded belief he lives with Quina. He doesn’t and didn’t at the time.

If this is accurate and he was at the party, then I agree that he has been a very naughty boy.

It will be interesting to see if he goes. im sure Gino is desperate to get his wages off the books, and believes he has enough useless strikers already

I reckon he'll go but we will contribute to his wages.

I think most of the stuff in the media has been created by us. The Spurs one was a joke, no way Dyche would want his ego at Burnley. Southampton sounds equally far fetched as they've already got Long as a sub. He's not 1st choice target for WBA and I wouldnt be surprised if they chose Gray ahead of Troy on deadline day if their other options fell through. If Wham loaned Dawson that means they'll sign anycuntina football shirt. I wouldn't rule that one out unlikely as it may seem. I think we should be really pushing hard to get him to Fulham but would settle for a free loan to Brum where we pay half his wages til the end of his contract.

I think it underlines how deluded the Deeney defenders are that literally no clubs want to sign him after our relegation. They could pretty much get him for free as long as they could covered his wages (maybe not even all of those!) and we’ve almost said as much by leaking to the press that we’re “open to him leaving”.

Yet nobody will touch him with a bargepole. Because if they’ve watched him at all for the past few seasons they’ll know he’s finished. And yet thousands of Watford fans still think he’s the second coming.

This is the thing. People defend decision after decision by the Pozzos, but no other club will touch half of the players they signed, even for free. The contracts are completely ridiculous for lots of shyte players.

They have locked down 'assets' that have no resale value and aren't even desirable for free on the terms we've offered.

In fairness I think pretty much everybody agrees mistakes have been made, the difference is not everybody dislikes them as much as some do

This is true, overall. But didn't we give Troy a 5 year deal off the back of our first PL season? Where he scored 13, assisted plenty for Ighalo, and was being discussed widely for an England call up? Made sense at the time and was a big statement of intent. I think we got a decent return on investment with some of the goals he scored over the past 4 years, but it seems his injuries, age and lack of overall fitness have basically finished him as a player at the top level.

In fairness, not everybody agrees. Lots of people defend decision after decision after decision until it becomes a farce.

I do remember a time when we were all delighted to see an window slam shut and seen that we'd held onto our talisman, but it seems a long time ago now.

Not sure if we have awarded him any new contracts since then, but if not, then fair enough.

It's strange how many 'happy clappers' are also Deeney haters.

Get behind the club and the lads (apart from Deeney).

I for one support all of the players while they are wearing the famous yellow shirt. COYH

Think it may have been the summer Leicester made the £30m bid, but I'm not sure. I couldn't find anything about another extension but it's possible that he activated his 'Pozzo sicknote' clause, which entitles the player to a further 4 years, and a 50% increase on his weekly wage in the event of a serious long term injury.

There is no way Birmingham can afford to pay half of Deeney’s wages. And if his ego allows him to play in the Championship, I’m 99% certain it’ll be with us.

When you say ‘we should be pushing hard for him to join Fulham’ - how? Do you think clubs are enticed by that kind of salesmanship?

Probably the main reason he has stuck around really when teams like Leicester came in for Troy.

We kept him on out of loyalty so he has felt obliged to show us some over the years.

Plus some success and a nice wage has helped !

Yes I do. Ive always believed that ever since watching only fools and horses as a kid. By 'push hard' I meant physically push Troy to Fulham. It's not that far. If the happy clappers and the bedwetters unite, I think we could get him there in an afternoon.

Promotion followed by 4 years of comfortable survival buys a certain amount of trust and leeway ?? ...which has now been partially lost, and in the case of 4 or 5 posters, wholly lost.
Of course they tied down the players who had seemingly turned us into a comfortable mid table prem team - they'd be criticised if they didn't and we'd lost the likes of Capoue, Doucs etc. Clearly they have made reruitment mistakes but every relegated team always struggles to restructure and clear under-performing players with non-viable salaries in the champ because even relegation clauses leave those salaries unsustainable. CV19 has destroyed the market making a difficult problem almost impossible. Perhaps everyone would have been happy if we'd not invested in players and just been relegated with Norwich 5 years ago with no need to cut playing staff ?
I don't get the 100% full on misery and criticism. Mistakes have been made, we've been relegated which was always going to happen one season, Cv19 makes that issue worse, but get over it. There's no point wallowing in a pit of misery and despair....

Troy is now linked to Brighton, that's the sixth PL club after his signature this window. Amazing he's still a hornet!

I never saw it as 4-5 years of ‘comfortable survival’ - a couple of years I’d say we had little to fear but we were at least looking over our shoulders at times in the others and there were warning signs for sure that we would eventually not be so lucky - and those warning signs were ignored by the very people who shouldn’t have ignored them.

That scenario creates anger and a loss of trust. I think it’s totally understandable.

And I don’t think anyone is saying we shouldn’t have tied certain players down to long term deals. But it’s the blanket approach to almost every player that is needless and confusing to some.

Deeney's ego and opinion of his ability are out of touch with reality. He is slow and overweight hence I'm not surprised that nobody has come in for him. If he is as good as he thinks he is he should allow us to cancel his contract and then see if any top flight or even championship team come in for him. I would not hold my breath.

OK, "resasonably comfortable" ? There were mistakes made along the way (Britos, Prodl and Janmaat contracts, Penaranda (like a new signing)) but you have to give some credit for those years, it can't have all been luck. Poor decisions cost us relegation but we were always going to be outspent and relegated one day.
