What worries me is that this will have alerted Bournemouth's scouting system, and they'll put in a £50 million bid which even the Pozzos would find it impossible to refuse.
Wenger in for ighalo would be more believable as he is a goalscorer. Deeney wouldn't add much to Arsenal in my view despite him doing well for us, Arsenal play quick ping pong style.
Putting 'according to Daily Star' reports on this forum should have its own section called "Fairy Story Stories".
Deeney has the least technical ability of any player in our side, so the thought of Wenger wanting him is hilarious. The Daily Star is like a child entering puberty - wild, unpredictable, and desperate for attention.
If it's in the papers, it must be true. How else do you think I found out Freddie Starr ate his hamster!?
I don't think this is necessarily an impossible outcome. It is a similar situation to when Liverpool signed Ricky Lambert who is certainly not inferior to Troy. From a personal point of view it got Lambert into the England side. Arsenal have money to burn and Troy himself would have the opportunity of Champions League football and medals which he won't get staying with us. Seeing the crap that get England caps nowadays this would also be a possibility. It would be a huge loss to us but I wouldn't begrudge him such a move.
http://http://playingfor90.com/2016/01/05/arsenal-are-chasing-the-wrong-watford-striker/? The articles on this just get worse... "When you watch Watford play it’s almost comical how dependent Deeney is on Ighalo. The minute he touches the ball in the opposing half he immediately looks to play his teammate into space. He doesn’t even seem to contemplate making an attacking move of his own."
I don't want to fan the flames of speculation, but Deeney has just been seen near Arsenal's London Colney training ground...
Unfortunately, because Watford is a small club and is tipped to go straight back down because they have 14 new players and five managers in nine months, any player who proves himself to be half-decent is going to be linked with a move away. Look at Paul Merson peddling Ighalo to Palace.
NO!:naughty: Just look at Paul Merson. It's much more fun, watching him trying to form a sentence. He speaks like a five year old.Him and Dowie, who sounds like he has a meat pie in his mouth, drive me batty!
Wenger has been in this position - strengthen in January in the hope of winning the league - every year since the league was interrupted for the Plague and Great Fire of London and not once, IIRC, has he gone for the big English centre forward.
I know it's not entirely accurate but one of Deeney's failings this season (actually the only one), at least in my eyes, is that he is all too quick to look for Igahlo. Maybe QSF has pushed him to do this or he feels Igahlo is so on fire you almost just need to get the ball to him. However, he has lost his instinct for goal a little bit and seems to want to play the clever flick/pass too often. On the whole it is working pretty well and Deeney is all about the team but I miss his driving against the opposition defence although I guess these defences are just that little bit tougher!
Deeney is many things - strong, unselfish, hardworking, confident, our leader. But his control, passing, and dribbling are not great. If you're labeling it absolute nonsense, I'd like to get your opinion on which player/s from our strongest starting eleven are overall technically weaker than him.
In fairness to Arsene though he did want Samuel Pepys but he wanted to remain with Readers' Digest FC!
Just saw this on Twitter - Troy comes off pretty well http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10119484/who-is-the-premier-leagues-best-striker
Just assuming there was some truth in the piffle & nonsense... we wouldn't sell Iggy in the window, but for the right money would we sell Troy?
I wouldn't sell either for any amount personally. Was just wondering what people thought the club might do. I reckon in the case of Troy they might just accept a silly money offer if one were forthcoming.
I had the same thoughts Troy with Vydra, = Vydra very good, scored a shed full. Vydra leaves, goals dry up. Troy with Ighalo = Ighalo very good, scored a shed full. Ighalo pre Watford, hardly a goal machine.
Cut + Paste from my thread "Is Deeney The Key?": - Is Deeney the key? Igahlo has been scoring for fun this season and last, and so did Vydra before him; but neither player have been prolific scorers where ever else they have played. Yes they are both decent strikers, but would they be as good if Deeney was not around? There is a lot of media hype going on about Igahlo and rightly so, but I actually beleive that if we were to cash in on all that hype and sell him for a vast sum at the end of the season, it would not be as difficult as you might think to replace him, that is as long as we hang on to Deeney! We would just need to bring in a reasonable striker and pair him with Deeney then in no time I think he would become as prolific as Igahalo and Vydra at their best. Yes I beleive Deeney really is the key!
Selling either Deeney or Ighalo at this stage would not make sense, at least in my humble opinion. They have formed an excellent partnership that has brought us to the brink of premiership survival. No matter who we bring in now to replace either or both, it will take a little time to become accustomed to our style of play and form a new strike partnership. If I were the owner of the club, I would not wish to risk the possibility of a catastrophic collapse (in confidence/performance/morale etc) that could drag us back down the table. The only way you would think that selling either would be necessary, is if they were aggressively pushing for a move or the manager didn't rate them. I do not believe that either of these scenarios exist. Indeed, I would assume that the Pozzos would be anxious to keep the manager happy, as he is the most likely member of the first team group to be snapped up against the club's wishes. Therefore, I would be confident that if Flores wants to keep his first team in situ, he will be accommodated, with a few additions coming in and players on the fringe being released. I anticipate a satisfying, if unspectacular, transfer window for the hornets.
Saying that Deeney is weak technically is exactly the sort of attitude I expect from lazy MOTD pundits who have no idea what they're talking about and see a big, physical striker and automatically label him as a 'big lump'. It's not the sort of attitude I'd expect from someone who presumably watches him play every week. Have a look back at some of his link up play with Ighalo over the past 12 months, namely his pass to him for Iggy's second against Newcastle.
Firstly, how dare you call me a MOTD pundit. How dare you. And secondly yes, I watch Deeney every week, and have watched him his whole Watford career. He's improved immeasurably, but in the Premier League, he's one of, if not the least technical players in our team. Deeney is the poster boy of our club, everyone loves him and rightly so. But he's not immune to weakness, much like everyone else in our team. He's provided some great assists, but he is only ever required to play forward balls in low danger areas of the pitch. When he drops deep and gains possession, he can be a bit of a liability, as the Man City game highlighted. But I never called him a lump or a bad player. Just that there are 9 other outfield players in the team who I trust with the ball more.
