I'm pretty sure they got rid of 'phases' in the offside law a couple of years ago in an attempt to simplify it (lolz).

Rodri was in an offside position throughout, no doubt about it. But Mings controlled the ball, it was a deliberate attempt at controlling it rather than a simple deflection off of him and once he does that the offside law as currently written says Rodri doesn't commit an offence by 'receiving' the ball from him.

If Mings had jumped to head the ball coming towards him but instead it skimmed off the top of his head and set Rodri through on goal, surely we'd all agree that was fine?

Fine as in allowed? I wouldn't agree. Andre Gray scored on Tuesday because the keeper "made a wilful attempt to touch the ball" if you follow the same law.

 

This we can all agree on.

 

The same happened in a Liverpool v Spurs game a couple of seasons ago when Kane was played onside by Lovren slicing the ball as he tried to clear it as that was deemed a deliberate attempt to play the ball.

 

Keepers making saves is covered in the law as an exemption to the deliberate act of playing the ball so players are still offside on that situation

After his half-time antics, watching Klopp have to swallow his pride and fist-bump Dyche at the end was glorious.

 

I had been watching pretty much every premier league game, I say watching, sort of only ever half watching but if a game was on I’d flick it on. Anyway, I’ve just got rid of sky temporarily as I’m moving. I haven’t missed the football one bit. Think I’ll give it a miss until crowds are back in full. It’s just not the same and I’ve reached my limit with it in its current state.

Deserves to be sacked for not making double figures and for fist bumping that ghastly little ninny of a manager.

 

I’d agree if they’d appointed a manager with years of pedigree, but why should a manager who had one ok season at Derby be expected to come in and perform better than managers with 20+ years experience at the top level have?

Yes, I know he’s spent a lot of money but I’m not quite sure what their hierarchy were expecting, when so many far more experienced managers haven’t met their high standards in the past.

Tuchel makes the most sense, will help with integrating their expensive new German signings into the team which has been one of Lampards biggest flaws so far (and arguably lead to his sacking). Although as @wfc4ever has said, Tuchel often doesn't get along with boards which doesn't bode well for his Chelsea career.

 

The only thing that surprises me about Lampard is that he didn't go sooner.

 

Imagine conceding even a shot on goal against that lot!
