I guess none would have been given with VAR?

    Well maybe!

Gino does prefer a foreign player, so I'm fully expecting us to sign Swiss Toney in the January window.

Seen it a good few times, can't for the life of me see the contact, a very soft penalty indeed (even softer than Bournemouth's yesterday, and that's saying something!). The only thing you can say in the ref's defence is that if you stick a leg out, you're opening yourself up to a decision like that--even Dean Ashton, who laid into Solanke on Quest last night, said that

Yes I agree it wasn’t a penalty but I thought the comments were a bit strong.

I thought at the time it was a fabulous dive but it looks like the defender catches him on the foot before he falls. Also, the lack of any real protest from the players says a lot.

It’s easy to forget about the championship when you are in the premeir league, I for one didn’t follow the league at all during our time away.
This time around one thing that is so glaringly obvious is that there are so many talented players in the league that the Pozzos world class recruitment fail to capitalise on. A few of these players would go for multi-millions, but some are just on the edge of their potential and could be available for a nominal fee with a huge return in profit. In recent weeks the examples of players that could replace Sarr easily in our team are Semenyo of Bristol City & Ojayi-Samuel of QPR. Both had great games against us and I’m sure would be available at a tenth of the price we paid for Sarr.
Already playing in England, so no major upheaval, these players should be able to integrate into the team without too many issues.
Based on the Pozzos previous transfer windows I’ll await the next reject from a top team that hasn’t played more than 5 games in 5 years in January

I like to think signing a foreign player is much like making love to a beautiful woman.

You start off watching her with admiration from afar, after a lengthy wooing process you spend loads of money to work magic with your balls , only to end up hating her and packing her off to Newcastle on the cheap.

Yeah in slow motion there's definitely contact, and the Preston players complain but without haranguing the ref. I suppose technically it's a pen (even if he was looking for it; surely that's not enough contact to send him down), but it's definitely not one you'd expect to get when you don't have VAR agonising over every frame for 5 minutes

    Bullcrap.

For one thing, Bristol City rejected bids from Chelsea for Semenyo 18 months ago, so the idea that he was either unknown or could have been signed by us for "a nominal fee" is pure baloney.

Meanwhile, Osayi-Samuel was good last season, but not great - he was regularly outshone by Eze who got bought by Palace for about 20mil. O-S was only linked with WBA and Celtic in the summer. It is true he looks very good at the moment, but he has only really gone up a level this season. His contract also expires in the summer so he'll have plenty of higher level suitors either in Jan or the summer.

So that's two players who we couldn't have signed anyway - hardly "so many".

Whenever there's the occasional case of a Champ player turning things up a notch and attracting PL interest, if they get sold it's typically for about 20mil - Eze, Grant, Bowen, Watkins, Benrahma etc... not "nominal" fees.

This is one of the reasons I was so aggrieved at us not signing Toney, as it was an incredibly rare case that we could have got that level of player for a relative bargain.

I never said these players are unknowns and the fact we are not ‘PL interest’ might suggest we won’t pay large fees anymore hence the nominal fee suggestion.
I also compared against the fee paid for Sarr which was reported £40millon. If a player was outshone by a team member who went for £20million than surely their fee would be less and still a fraction of the price we paid for Sarr.
I believe it is actually you who are talking bullcrap

The fee for Sarr was reported in some places at more like £25mil with anything else dependent on add-ons. Sarr also looked a better player in the PL last season than Eze has done so far for Palace.

You've literally not been able to say which players we realistically should have signed for a "nominal fee" and when. "Nominal fee" - those were your words... £20mil is not a nominal fee.

Also, your posts are doubly-crap because you've been incapable of pinpointing these signings even with the huge benefit of hindsight.

Anyone can easily say in 2020 "oh we should have kept hold of that lad Harry Kane when he was on trial with us in 2004"; it's only in any way impressive or of benefit if you can actually make suggestions for potentially advantageous transfers at the time when they're actually feasible.

    Like who exactly?
People on here were banging on about Matt Grimes being what we desperately needed. I for one can't see it and did nothing to change my mind against Forest. Garner looks far more of a player already in comparison. Even though hes not ours.
Plus if you think either of those two are capable of replacing Sarr and improving on that position it really shows what little you understand about football.

This is very weird. I thought it was soft, but it was a pen IMO. Very strange bunch to start a whole new thread about it, especially as there is no historic animosity between us.

Awful dive by Sarr who has a tendency to go down easy. Hilarious from the bitter Stoke lot.

It's hardly the worst dive you'll ever see, like Wes Hoolanhan's one against us a few years back.

Never in a month of Sundays should it have been a penalty. It was a dive and deserved a booking, not a penalty.

Id accept a retrospective red for Sarr and a ban from any 3 cup games this year and we will call the result 3-1 as that wasn't a penalty.

Osayi-Samuel has a £4.7m release clause in his deal. Club Brugge triggered it this summer but he turned the move down.

Not sure if that classes as ‘nominal’ in the debate that’s being had but it’s significantly less than £20m.

Trying to find any link to claim he had a release clause - the articles I found claim that Brugge just had a £4.7mil offer accepted after negotiations, not that it was a contract clause:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...lub-Brugge-medical-clubs-agree-4-75m-fee.html

    https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr...ntract-talks-resume-brugge-rejected-070820991

Also, perhaps he rejected them as he was holding out for a potential PL move?

We weren't in the market for a right-winger this summer either. Nor was anyone calling for him to be signed by us this summer when the above fee was mooted.

Was all over Sky Sports in the summer that Brugge had triggered his release clause.

See my links above - I can't find any which say anything about a release clause.

Here's even a skysports article from September:

"Osayi-Samuel was the subject of two bids from Belgian side Club Brugge this summer, the second of which was accepted by QPR, only for the player to turn down the move."

Christ almighty, I was just highlighting something I saw earlier in the summer. Not everything has to be backed up by endless links etc.

You don’t believe that it was on Sky Sports in the summer? Fine, I’m sure I’ll live with that.
