They probably would have stayed up wouldn't they? The Championship was **** this season, Cov stayed up relatively comfortably in the end, Rotherham almost stayed up despite a horrendous fixture backlog and Wycombe who were probably the biggest underdogs in the history of the Championship only went down by a point in the end

I've seen a few fans of Premier League teams reference how poor the league was this season as well so I wonder if lack of fans is impacting all the divisions. When football first returned without fans I recall the games seemed very different and lacked a level of intensity and I think as we have all become familiar with that it has been discussed less, but is still a major factor.

Well that's got to be a factor for sure but I think another one is that most Championship clubs are skint and can't afford to bet the farm on promotion like they may have done a few years ago. We're not exactly rosy financially, but at least we were able to keep hold of some excellent talent that this year was simply beyond what any Championship club outside the top clubs were able to field

I think the EFL will bottle it and give any points deduction next season.

But I think both Wycombe and Wednesday would have strong legal challenges if the deduction isn't applied for this year's season.

Sheff Weds in particularly would have reason to complain if Derby get a points deduction for next season, given they were punished for the same thing this season and were relegated as a result.

Looking at a Derby forum though they seem unconcerned, reckon the DM article is mentioning a points deduction as click bait and their club have already said that isn't a potential outcome.

Yes but there were arguments that Sheffield's punishment should have been applied last season, so I don't think they have as much of a case as Wycombe might.

They will probably pad the investigation out till it’s too late to do anything about this season so any punishment has to count toward next season .

1ok fans allowed for the play-offs.

    Full house at Bournemouth then!

Will be fewer than that - think it is 10000 or 25% of capacity, whichever is the lower

25% capacity at their place means at least 150 fans will be let in.

    Booooooo
"Although the club cannot appeal against the decision, they can appeal against any sanction. And given there are going to be arguments around what that sanction should be, it is difficult to see how that will be sorted out in time for it to apply this season.

That may disappoint Wycombe, who stand to benefit from any points deduction applied for the current campaign, but it is not in Derby's interests for the matter to be conducted speedily."

May not get relegated this season but the EFL will likely go for the jugular next season. Will clearly be a minimum of 6 points based only on SWFC this season and they have no money so will be shocked if they get lucky for a second season in a row.

Disappointing, what a story it would’ve been if Wycombe had stayed up.

I don’t think Wigan fans would agree - there’s a case to say that Weds should have had their points deduction last season and thus gone down then instead of Wigan.

Agreed. How they thought being a passenger in a car that gets into an accident qualifies as "gross misconduct" is jaw dropping.

Was devastating for Wigan to go down in the manner they did, but in fairness, if they'd stayed up they'd have got battered every week seeing as the team they put out eventually was only good enough to just about stay in League 1

I think the two things are linked though - I doubt very much that the team Wigan were left with after their relegation last season would have been the same had they survived.

Scot talking about the fans turning on the hierarchy during the season 'it's not as if we weren't doing ok in the league', 'we were all working so hard and so tirelessly' Excuses, excuses. The problem wasn't a lack of hard work Scot, it was the disastrous decision making, the toxic leadership structure, the financial time bomb and player exodus if we didnt get promoted and the risk of potentially losing the stadium. All this against a backdrop of an investigation into serious allegations that the 'family' club is sweeping under the carpet.

    Losing the stadium ?

As in having to sell it to raise funds ?

I'd also say that having a lack of fans actually helped teams be more organised. It's easier to organise a defence, know a bit more where your opponents are and nullify them when you can hear everything going on. Far more difficult in front of even the most relatively passive crowd as they will always make some sort of noise (snorts of derision from us obviously). Not taking anything away from our defensive achievements this season but suspect we would've conceded quite a few more with crowds in (along with everyone else no doubt). Also may explain the relative lack of goals this season across all divisions.

How many managers have won promotion to the top flight with 3 different clubs? Has anybody done it? BFS maybe?
