Uff imagine the irony of Brentford blowing automatic last season when it was theirs for the taking (I think they needed just a point from their last two matches) and then winning it this season from 12 points behind.

    The stuff of nightmares.

We have to earmark the Lootown and Millwall games as must wins. If we do win those two, Brentford have to win 5 out of their remaining 6 games to be level and that's assuming we lose the other 3 fixtures. Swansea would need to win all 6 unless they somehow start scoring a lot of goals which seems unlikely.

Both Brentford and Swansea have very tricky away fixtures, Brentford play Muff and Swansea have Reading. Plus we play them both. I'm just hoping we get promoted before we play Brentford. If we don't beat Lootown it could be brown trousers time, especially if Brentford win against Millwall.

There’s an amusing match preview (if not as funny as SLB’s Luton one) on the Sheffield Wednesday forum of their game against Swansea this evening - like their northern gallows humour:

    https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/300097-wednesday-v-swansea-omdt

Interesting that the comments are quite complimentary about Swansea, after they’d looked ordinary at best for weeks before their big win at Millwall. Maybe if you’ve been watching sh1t for so long a lot of teams look good by comparison?

I’m not worried about Swansea, but it would be nice if they could drop points so we can already rule them out altogether.

Yes they would because the EFL will come down like a tonne of bricks if they didn't.

    Yes - obviously.

And they win all their games up till then.

Bearing in mind they have an extra game to get their wins.
Realistically I think Brentford would need to win their home game vs us and then make up 3 points on us. If they don't beat BMuff, we don't need to beat Norwich etc. If they drop points in another, we can drop points vs Swansea etc. Their target will be to keep us within 6 points come those last 2 games. If they do and beat us, we will then need something against Swansea.

This x3. I CAN see B winning 5 of their last 6 if they beat us, however hopefully we can win those 2 games and get a point from Swansea or Norwich. Think it's unlikely it will be sorted before we play them though. Football never goes perfectly to plan.

To further add, if we don’t beat Luton it will be a bit like letting the lead slip against Boro. Failing to beat Luton will almost certainly mean we need to pick those points up somewhere else instead, and with the games we have left it will be a lot more difficult to do so. Ultimately we need to make hay while the sun shines.

EFL now saying some matches will be on Friday night apparently, could be interesting depending on which ones are chosen

He's played 65% of all possible minutes for them this season over 28 appearances. He's also scored four of their goals!

Seems the Swansea match isn't on TV. I was hoping to watch the most tedious non-event since Vlad left, but I can have a life instead.

Also 8th May birthday. My wife did arrange for us to go away for my birthday in 2006 and hastily re-arranged as we were playing the first leg of the Crystal Palace semi play off at their ground. Well worth the delay to the holiday.

By the way I will raise you David Attenborough against your Gary Glitter

I watched the 2nd leg of that tie in a bar in Lesvos. Great night. Flew back the next day and had to keep pulling over on the drive back to the airport to be "ill".

I am thinking this perhaps should now be a PM but surely Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls of Little House On The Prairie fame) tops the lot.

I guess having all the games moved to play at the same time, by and large, at least negates the potential psychological advantage Brentford may have had were they to play earlier, and win of course.

I know it’s the old cliche of not watching other scores and concentrating on your own game but as we know, playing first and getting the result piles the pressure on your rivals, well at least until the last weekend.

It’s not like we wouldn’t go for the win anyway.

I hate to rain on your and TUT's glorious 8 May parades but the biggest birthday star of that day is undoubtedly this mega YouTuber...

Unlucky both, even Gary G will be ashamed of that connection (I think)!

Be interesting to see the result/performance from Swans tonight. They're playing a team that actually has something to play for so be interesting to see if they've returned to form, or Millwall were on the beach.

Be typical of us to win 3 games but lose to Brentford so not get 2nd!

    If that is possible...

That game in hand makes a real difference.

Means rather than 9 points there is potentially a one game swing which can go their way.

If we win 3 games, we’ll have to lose both the others and Brentford will need to win all their games. If that all happens we’ll both have 91 points and then the likelihood is Brentford will have a better GD.

So potentially a bit like Brentford last year then? Win the next three and lose to both Brentford and Swansea. Nooooooooo!

A lot of whatiffery going on..reckon we will need a point from the last two if it’s not wrapped up by then. And if Brentford do go up automatically then it means we have bottled it and they have gone on an amazing winning streak...and will therefore probably deserve it

As the mist settles into the valleys, a first hint of brightness, strengthening to nothing more than a suggestion of a glow appears atop the mountains. A young adventurer, Vic, has been hiking for 3 days to reach the remote peak. He climbs the last hundred feet without his backpack as the ascent is too steep for extra baggage, but he knows that the glow comes from the legendary Oracle. He scrambles, knees grazed, face filthy and his safari suit drenched in his own sweat. he makes the now brightly shining peak just as the sun dissapears for the day. Then he leans into the glow (it says Dell 24inch on its bezel) and reads the imperious words “if watford win its good, if they lose its bad, a draw is ‘meh’”. He relaxes and is at peace with the world.

A draw doesn't really suit either team tonight but neither can afford to lose.

That's not quite what happened to Brentford last year. They won 8 matches in a row to bridge a huge gap to WBA. At the end of that run, after 44 games, they were 1 point behind WBA. WBA themselves only picked up 1 point from the final two matches, but Brentford lost both. Had they won one or drawn both of those games they would/could have gone up given WBA's results, but it was never in their own hands.

Although it was frustrating game our result against Bournemouth probably wasn’t that bad considering they’ve only dropped 5 points since. Hopefully they beat Brentford and they might even go ahead of them by doing so.
