Brentford can get 18 from 6, we are 9 ahead - for us 3 wins and a draw or 3 wins including Brentford does it beyond doubt I believe.

In the last six away games we are 3rd in the form table with 13pts. Barnsley are first with 18pts and Norwich are second with 16points.

This thread has turned quite dull. On one side are the pint is nowhere near half full brigade who can visualise Watford absolutely collapsing and Brentford turning their form around vs the stattos who say that, based on form, that scenario is really unlikely and we are as good as up

fact is who knows but what you can’t debate is that we are in a fantastic situation, with points on the board and there is a very good reason that William Hill make us 20/1 on to go up

That's fine. You think an easy away win, 3 points effectively already in the bag. That's your view. Hope you're right.

It seems Polio only remains in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan, where vaccination is, as I understand it, actively discouraged by local powers (Taliban and sympathisers). By 'actively discouraged' I mean aid workers have been murdered.

Nah. Thanks for the contribution this season Kiko, but a summer move back to Spain should be on the cards. He was a very key part of why we were a relegation team before and if we're to learn anything, it's that he's not a prem player and he's got a soft underbelly when things are tough.

We have to wait for time to advance sufficiently before our allotted fixtures can be fulfilled unfortunately.

Klopp goes nuts if “his boys” are selected for an early kick off. Wouldn’t want to be the reporter that told him they’ve been moved 24 hours for a funeral.

Yes. I'm given to understand that there are even people who spend hours, even days and weeks, of their lives reading and writing about footballers, often in extremely excitable terms. Largely they will never meaningfully meet these people, but they hold strong and frequently abusive opinions about them. Who'd have thought?

So are we going to sign a better RB or use our championship reserve ? You can never have too many RBs and Fem would be perfect for the championship in 2 years time.

Wasnt Capoue's return to form partly based on the fact he stopped staying up all night to watch NBA??

I don’t think that’s the point, though. It’s perceived as “inappropriate” to be doing something “trivial” like playing professional football at the same time as old Phil is laid to rest.

It's inappropriate to schedule dear old Phil's funeral at the same time as 50+ professional football matches that millions of people would be watching...

People are making the mistake of comparing our ‘difficult last 2 fixtures’ with the same challenge which faced us last season

Last season we have Man City and Arsenal away, this season we have games against our peers who we are directly competing against and have been better than for most of the season. Our difficult last 2 this year are the equivalent of having to play Bournemouth and Villa in our last two games last season

It’s actually a mark of respect to someone who served his adopted country and his wife, who happens to be Queen which is the one thing which marks our country as being different from many countries in the world!

There aren’t many things which take precedence over the scheduling of sporting events, however the funeral of a senior member of our first family is one of them!

I doubt that many people will be watching football. At 2m that would be an average of 40,000 per match... Besides, the matches are non-attendance, and watching one at 16:00 or 17:00 instead of 15:00 is hardly an inconvenience.

Of course, but we have the opportunity to put it to bed before those two harder games, so that means we would’ve messed up in two easier games and by definition hit worse form all of a sudden if we’re needing to beat Brentford and/or Swansea. Of course Brentford and Swansea are no City and Arsenal, but as good as we are they’re more than capable of beating us, as we are them. Something Swansea have already done this season.

If we only got 2 wins and a draw, but one of those wins was against Brentford they couldn’t catch us
We would have 89 points, max they could get would be 88!

So basically we must not lose to Brentford or Swansea.

Not impossible certainly compared to playing Man C who even Ben Foster said we were scared of playing but of course we have to be wary and perform well.

I get it. But it relies on an outdated notion of what constitutes 'respect' in my view. Despite their public statement the EFL isn't moving its games out of respect. At best it's doing it out of resigned exasperation. And realistically with an eye on clubs' iFollow takings being down too if they're forced to go head to head with Phil's big send off.

And SLB has a point. Who in the Palace or Cabinet Office or whatever is so out of touch that when 3pm on a Saturday was mooted for the funeral they didn't spot the obvious clash?

People should have a choice. I have nothing against anybody who wants to watch the funeral on Saturday afternoon although personally I find the toadying and reverence some of the population has for this family to be a strange sort of psychological condition. But the rest of life shouldn’t stop as well. Football matches (and cricket as there’s a big one where I live next weekend) should be allowed to take place and we should have the choice. All this is basically another example of the state telling us how we should feel and react, yet actually I’m heartened that actually it’s having the opposite effect.

On a side issue, the BBC have just released their amended tv schedule for today...

    BBC One..

12pm - Homes Under the Philip
    1pm - A Philip in the Sun
2pm - Come Dine With Philip
3pm - Escape to the Philip
    4pm - Tiphiliping Point
    5pm - Philip
    6pm - Philip & Philip's Saturday Night Takeaway
    9pm - Mrs Brown's Philips
11pm - Match of the Philip

we all spotted the clash straight away, but for these purposes football kickoff times isn’t a factor, remember the FA Cup final kick off time was unceremoniously changed a few years ago for commercial reasons, I doubt very much that the palace was asked being regular attendees, if this would be ok for them!

I would imagine the time of the Funeral was decided so as many people around the world could watch it as possible!

I can understand the BBC’s decision from a cynical viewpoint. Better to upset the average viewer by cancelling their favourite programme than run the risk of giving the right wing Tory backbench lunatic fringe yet more ammo to justify their campaign to emasculate the BBC. Can you imagine the cries of ‘disloyalty’ emanating from their hypocritical mouths?
Not sure why ITV & C5 did it, though.

You are only shocked and because you are not empathising with other people.

Some people have known of the Duke for 80 years and he has served his country for that long, and a quarter of a century past the age of most normal people's retirement age, and I havn't seen any examples of people "absolutely losing their mind" over this as you suggest.

Celebrity/public figures deaths are bound to affect people in different ways and we should understand that. That is illustrated by the examples of deaths put up in our own obituary column as something worthwhile mentioning for them.

Some people wonder how people in a family home, with partners and children, can be so distraught over the loss of a pet dog/cat/hamster/budgie. A neighbour of mine remortgaged their home to pay for £35,000 of treatment for their 13 year old dog, who then survived for less than a year which is what the vet actually told them would happen, even after the treatment.

I struggle to understand why people are so angry about the timings of football matches (and they aren't even going to see them), and, in your words, finding the BBC making "utterly, utterly inexplicable" decisions over something that happens so rarely that most of us couldn't really remember when it last happened. When was it? Was it when the Queen Mother died, nearly 20 years ago? In these days of catch-up TV and about 500 channels available it shouldn't matter any more than a minor inconvenience, but I'm not shocked or angry over it as it just makes me laugh how some people prioritise their lives.

Also, baffled by the notion of a lifetime of "service" to the country. It's been a life of unbelievable privilege funded by the taxpayer. As you say, no problem with it being televised and those who want to watch it being able to and of course, it's sad when anyone dies but normal life shouldn't have to grind to a halt.

Anybody would be upset over their own dog, that’s completely normal. It lives with them, sits on the sofa with them and gives them daily joy and companionship.

Nobody actually knew Prince Phillip personally, did he honestly give anyone daily joy? Companionship? It’s completely different.

There is also the fact that he was 99 and in bad health, these people who are so upset about this person they never knew should probably have been preparing for the event for some time now. I understand it a lot more over a situation like Diana, when it was a sudden and unexpected shock.
