They would work well if you were looking for names for an 80s Channel 4 yoof program, rebranding Songs Of Praise or a new documentary about WW2.

But they have no link at all with WFC or VR.

:whoosh: I beg to differ "Buzz" the sound a "Hornet" makes ::)

Furthermore look up the meaning of the word "Vanguard", although it may not have direct WFC connections, it certainly fits what we are trying to achieve; which is to have a group of fans to lead the way with singing and chanting in order to improve the overall atmosphere at "The Vic"

PS You're an "Ageist" me thinks :sign2:

Ageist? Been accused of a few things but that is a first!

Anyhoo, I thought bees buzzed and hornets hummed?

Is the name really that important? "The 1881" has a decent ring to it, it is the year we were formed, and honestly won't people decide it is for them based on the behaviour rather than the name?

With such a neutral, Watford related name surely people who wish to get involved will. It's not like the name is a tribute to an already extant, notoriously sectarian group at another club.

Our founding. Our singers. Our club.

Simply call it "The Choir", anyone wishing to (lol, not ;)) be seated there will understand exactly what is expected of them and should also expect to be cajoled, even moved, for not performing.

I wanted to comment on the 1881 logo. I hope it's constructive.

I think it's good - but just a little too busy. The shadow real hornet above and the cartoon one below don't really mix. I think it has to be one or the other.

Personally I think it'd be better without the shadow real hornet at the top. I don't think you should be frightened of blank space.

Well, just my observation for what it's worth.

Agreed, too busy/cluttered and the font for 1881 is not great.

Lose the upper hornet, better font in black and it would look great IMO.

I mentioned very early on after the play off final about the idea of having a singind section (along with others)
But this wasnt what i had in mind. I think the club should have organsied it.

Starting an independent group like this.. and giving it a name.. is for me too close to the Yellow Order 'ultras' experiment which, while good intentioned, failed.

Time will tell but i think it was a mistake starting a group like this.

The 1881 is a fine name ... and I like the badge which should go well on any scarves/t-shirts/flags etc.

I have a slight issue with shades of yellow ... not that keen on the Happy Egg shade and would sooner we moved to a more BVB shade of yellow esp if we are ditching the red.

Maybe some flyers handed out before the game when you have a decent repertoire of songs, I'm sure the club will fund the printing and may even include it in the program .

Other than that ... great job chaps.

I agree that there should not be a group as such stevo, but I do believe there should be a designated area where those who are keen to sing and chant can congregate together and hopefully create a better atmosphere in the ground.

To use another analogy stevo, why do churches have choirs? They have them to lead the congregation in the singing of hymns!!!

Well that is what I hope a designated singing area will achieve at the Vic; leading the remainder of the crowd in chanting and singing for the team; hence hopefully creating a better atmosphere in the stadium!!!

    Same here..
Its obvious that the atmosphere has been greatly reduced in UK football grounds sinced the all seater rule came in. Singing sections must be the best way to counter the fragmented nature of watching football these days. I'm all in favour of it & would like to see it extended to standing as well (though thats a bit trickier to organise)

As far as an organised group is concerned.. well my only concern was that it might put people off* if they confused this with an 'ultra's' group.. and i do hope those that get involved dont start thinking they are 'better fans' because of it.

*Ive since read that over 200 have moved to the area.. a very promising start and i'm only too happy to be proved wrong.

My clear intentions are that we are:

Not and exclusive group. If you want to get involved, please do. (And that includes emailing me with ideas and constructive chritisism .

All ages: And judging by my emails and fan id's, a lot of people moving over are between 25 and 50, in fact one of the youngest is a 5 year old (obviously with his dad) and the oldest is 64

Pro team: you won't be hearing the "sh8g my wife" or "deeney hates the police" type chant coming from us

Self sufficient: we intend to sell watford/1881 merchandise purely to fund displays (we are planning a whole Rookery yellow A3 card display for the first game of the season = not free to do) and flags and banners

Away trips: on our website: www.the1881.com I am intending to email all that register an email containing details if what rows/seats to book for the upcoming away trips during the season...to further enhance the already great away day trips.

    Yes !

Actually (sorry wfcforums) but the 1881 section AND wfcforums are intending (dialogue stage) of making this happen. We will have something like "bought to you by wfcforums and the1881 on the reverse (visible when held up by the hold up-ee) with (maybe) the words to a chant

Great idea Hollywood about keeping the 1881 singers together at away games too

I don't know where you are finding the time to do all of the things you are doing but you must be mightily encouraged by the (mostly) positive and constructive comments from the WFC Internet groups and indeed the feedback from the club

Its a she and she is 5 and cant wait now I have told her we have officially moved! She is desperate to sing and loved going to Birmingham away and Forest away in her words "because of the singing". Lets do this guys and make it a big part of WFC for years to come!!!!

Ironically those are two games I missed due to personal reasons, in the case of the latter I already had tickets.

Hopefully she can bring more good luck to Watford as it sounds like there are goals whenever she attends!
