Snowmaggedon. What about this weather?

It amazes me how many people don't understand what a 4WD actually does for you. They seem to think it makes you superglued to the road.

A 4WD on summer tyres is the same as a 2WD on summer tyres!
No grip at all on snow and ice!
Change to winter tyres on your FWD car and you will out perform any 4WD on summer ones!

What do you see in this picture?

    1. An idiot who loses control of a car, which is still covered in snow, crashes it through the window of a shop?
    2. An idiot who reads the shop sign ‘car park at rear’ and decides rather than driving around they’d take the most direct route?

That is quite accomplished parking for most larger vehicles I see, both in WGC and in the Harpenden Sports Centre car park!

As somebody or other mentioned earlier...you pussies don't know what cold or snow is (as I chortle from the tropics).

My life in South Dakota was snow on the ground from October to May with enough snow in a single night to completely bury your car by morning, and -30C temps.
Oh how I miss that, while sipping my Mai Tai.

(Actually, I've no clue what a Mai Tai even is...just put it in for dramatic effect)

The difference is when it's regular you can prepare for it.
    I think you'd suit a Mai Tai.

We've never had a nuclear war but we had in preparation this...

And I'm strictly a beer and pickled eggs guy. Cocktails are wasted on me...£14 knocked down in one gulp.

Pah! Is that all it’s got?

The Bluster from Russia is what I’d call it.

No panic buying or hoarding food here.

Was heading down to Cornwall for a funeral today, but woke up to about 3 inches of snow this morning, and blizzards forecast over the next few days along the route we would have been taking, so we have decided to remain wrapped up at home.

It has been between -3 and -19 here day and night for two or three weeks, snowed a fair amount too.

It isn't all snow tyres and triple glazing, I think in the UK we have been very clever and made even a slight snow shower a reason to stay at home. Having cycled to work in -13 today, I think it is genius

Just the odd shower forecast between now and Thursday midday. Then ammageddon. Supposed to snow pretty much for 24 hrs. Friday doesn't look pretty. Actually it may well look pretty, but there won't be much moving.

Thursday we barricade ourselves into Watford Library and burn books to keep warm.

Agreed. Nobody needs a paper book these days. Or therefore a library. Expensive luxury our taxes can't afford. Lets burn them anyway.

A sad as this is, it is rapidly becoming realistic and true :(

We should never actually get rid of books, but there should perhaps only be a few national archive & reference libarys so the written word is not lost forever, but the days of wide spread public lending libarys, must surely be numbered.

There are lots of bookshops and libraries in New Zealand. Maybe because the telly is crap, there's very little football and rugby is abominable.

That was my 'Radio Ham' segment old bean!
Snow here in WGC and courts covered at the club.
I would sweep one but more is forecast for Friday. Believe me there are fewer things more soul destroying than clearing a tennis court of snow, only for it to be covered 24 hours later!
    :(

NZ is technologically backward. At least 15 years behind us.

Whats London Luton usually like to fly to during snowy periods? Are they usually well equipped to deal with it?

The Beast from the East (or as we call it in Norway.. February) has arrived and it's pretty arctic today.
If you get the tail end of this on Friday good luck :)

This prediction for my area from earlier in the week has proven to be pretty accurate..

Quite surreal watching all the "snowmaggedon" news items while looking out at my still pristine-green lawn bathed in sunshine with not a snowflake in sight!
