Do you think the club would fork out the ~20mil? I know the TV money has gone up but that is a massive leap in record price - if we treat Sucess as not really costing 12.5 mil.

We get it. You don't like the new shirt.

Or even much less. May seem weird to some of the others to have a guy who fluffed two penalties against us shoehorned in as our top earner.

I don't think there's any danger of him being our top earner. Pretty sure Deeney has that honour.

If Gino wants him he's going to have to fork out at least close to that, and he does seem to be pulling out all the stops to get him.

He does now, but I believe wasn't on more than 25k per week last season. Berahino was offered 65k per week by the Baggies so I'd imagine he would want at least 50k+ from us. Say if Deeney had his salary doubled he may still be below what Berahino would require.

I don't think there is any chance we will pay him or wba more than others. Only real chance of a deal would be a swap involving ighalo and paying a ridiculous salary. If we did I expect Troy will have a clause that would increase his salary to match.

I can't believe Deeney was only on £25k per week last season. I'd think his Championship wage was nudging that given he has now signed 4 contracts in 4 summers and he has consistently delivered in that time.

He's wasn't. He was on 40k at least in our promotion season.

Think we need to get used to these massive fees. 20m looks cheap compared to proposed 32m for Benteke to Palace

Deeney was on less than £40k last season. Only Capoue earned more in the squad though. Pozzo still keeping a relatively low budget on wages compared to other PL clubs. Imagine Deeney is earning near or more than Capoue now, though

Though I think West Brom would rather deal with us - as we have a striker they want - I could see Berahino personally favoring Stoke due to less competition for places.

    Great news for Vydra.

I think our forward options are good

Deeney, Ighalo, Success, Sinclair, Vydra, Oulare, Amrabat... every Berghuis and Anya at a stretch. We have a good mix of forwards who can play central and wide if necessary as well

Where I think we do need to drop £20m is a top class CAM to play behind them. I think that would be the biggest difference right now between another season of consolidation and really pushing on to the next level

Agreed. Do people have any suggestions that wouldn't smash the wage structure? Mata's transfer cost might be in reach, but I don't think we could remotely afford the wages he's on.

  24. IRB

Mata would be ideal, but yes, no chance with wages

We basically need an upgrade on Jurado, or (sadly) Abdi

If you look at the kind of purchase West Ham made last summer, when they spent about £15m-£20m on Payet after a great season in Ligue Un. Thats the sort of deal we need to be looking for. I think its a shame that we look set to miss out on Vazquez, he ticked all the boxes for me

I think I've said his name way too many times on here, but Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli. Personally I think he would be available given how Napoli have just signed Pereyra (or at least are almost all the way there) and are likely to also sign Zielinski, which means Gabbiadini would be down the pecking order. He can certainly in the CAM role and can score as well as assist. Transfermarkt value him at £14.5 and with Stoke and West Ham sniffing, I'm sure any final transfer fee would be around £20m

Yes Gabbiadini would be a good option is Vazquez if off the table

Good pedigree, decent size and strength for the BPL and only 24 with room to improve

Only if he sees Vydra as worth taking up an non-HG slot. We've got Deeney, Ighalo, Success, Sinclair, Oulare, Amrabat & Berghuis. I can't see all the non_HG attackers being in the squad.

  28. I think, for the moment, I am happy that we have creativity aplenty in the team.

We should not judge the overall creativity of the team on last year, when the coach, for what I have to admit were his own good and effective (in achieving his goals) reasons, used players to play roles he rigidly defined (as opposed to allowing their abilities define their role). I hope we now have a head coach who can see what a player is capable of and make the most of it, subsequently showing us very different players to those we saw last year. The two warm up games so far seem to be baring this out, but it is early days.

That said; I wouldn't say no to talented incoming. I just think we are maybe under-estimating some of what we have got; because for some reason we are thinking that Quique got the best out of our players, when he actually used them for some very specific roles that were largely indifferent to their capabilities.

I find it disappointing that people seem ready to write-off players because of how they performed for Quique; he did an effective coaching job, but he was not interested in the players as creative individuals.

Success and Oulare are under 21 so don't count. Sinclair is HG.

Glad we've knocked this one on the head. We've got enough options and don't think paying £20 million for someone with four Premier League goals last season is worth the risk of possible disruption if he's not playing or has a good six months and decides he wants to jump ship.

Amazing to think that as Deeney and Ighalo were toiling away in the second half of the season, we had to leave them on almost every game as we had no-one to bring off the bench. If the same situation occurred this season, we could look across and call on Success, Sinclair and Vydra. Still not convinced Oulare will get much of a look in though.

Would benefit both parties if Oulare was sent on a Season long loan. No amount in of in house training will replicate actual games.

  32. Agreed about knocking it on the head. It only made sense if we were able to sell Iggy for substantially more than we could buy Berahino for, and then run the risk of developing him, or not, to the point where Berahino was worth substantially more than we paid for him. My money would have been on us doing it, but if Iggy's not going for big money, then it's not quite so interesting.

Yeah, not so bothered really. He seems a pretty unpleasant and unlikeable sort and we've got one of those in bad-tempered bubble Holebas.

By the way, I see he nearly got into a fight with some fourth division clogger in his first outing this season last night. Probably something not quite right with the pre-match pasta.

Does anyone know anything about the Vydra situation yet or is it pre-season and then to be decided?

Exactly. With Deeney, Success, Oulare & Sinclair you can't really justify 4 non-HG attackers when you've only got 15 non-HG slots in total.

Ighalo, Amrabat, Berghuis, Vydra. If one were not be in the squad, which I suspect will be the case, my money would be on Vydra.
