[SOLD] Pervis Estupinan

I thought the consensus here was that Estupinan had extended his contract last year as per a local source in Spain. Supposedly it runs to 2023 or 2024.

 

Then keep him here. He's got a year left (potentially a lot longer according to a number of sources) and has the potential to be quite literally our best player and very likely comfortably the best left back in the league.

Unless he is completely disruptive and truly throwing the toys out of his pram to the extreme then having the best left back in the league is surely more valuable to a team who "expects promotion" than the £15m relative pittance that we're supposedly being offered? Get promoted and lose him for free if need be.

The truth is that we are simply not serious about promotion and therefore are willing to cash in on anyone and everyone, and we will end up with a bang average squad like the one we saw tonight.

I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong, but the ridiculous situation around the 17 "injured" players, the constant rumblings about the same players leaving, and the laughable quality of our signings so far, certainly does not fill me with any confidence that the club really has a clue what they're doing, much like last season.

 

If Estupinan is being sold (as claimed) then Ivic has outright lied in his post match press conference to press and fans. And if so he's finished.

 

Right - he was at the club and he did indeed sign a contract. It just wasn't with us. 99.9% of the time a player at Watford signing paperwork is signing for Watford, so to someone on the outside that would seem a fair assumption.

 

Keeping players that don't want to be here always works well, just look at Doucoure!

You gave an example of an unhappy player performing poorly, I gave an example of one performing well. What that has to do with someone telling me I wouldn't be happy if we'd signed Messi in the Glenn Murray thread I have no idea.

 

Sorry, thought we were just making irrelevant points? Like comparing Messi staying one more season at his lifelong club, at the very highest level, to forcing Estupinan (who has never played a competitive game for us) to stay in the Championship, off the back of his best ever season when he's being chased by much bigger clubs. Are you saying that every single player that a club hasn't bent over for by their club and given a move when they've wanted one has downed tools and completely failed to perform?

Pozzo and co are going to cash in while they can. The whole point of the Pozzo model is to make money, and if someone wants to pay £15mil, that's money we didn't have beforehand, so take it while it's there.

Can't believe people thought we'd see this future star in our shirt. Was never going to happen, and a summer's worth of chatter made that clear. But give our Twitter team credit for teasing us with fun photos and videos.

Didn't have you down as being this naive. We've a player who is clearly too good for our level, and clearly isn't all that set on being here, and is apparently in the last year of his deal, and you sincerely believe we should take that risk? We don't have the PL riches to fall back on anymore, £15m is a significant sum for a club in our situation. I think it's less than his market value, but due to the circumstances I've mentioned, it's probably about right.

You'd think last season would be a pretty clear example of needing every member of the squad fighting for the same cause with no distractions but apparently not. I want players that truly want to be at the club, not ones worrying about decreasing their signing on fee at their next club through getting an injury. That's not a slight on Pervis either, he's got no reason to have any affinity for the club and I don't blame him for wanting a big move while his stock is so high.

I really hope that's true but I've only seen one article mention that. Every other source indicates 2021. If we have managed to extend his deal then I agree £15m is poor value for us.

From what I know, Estupinan’s deal ends in 2021 and Watford hold a one year option.

 

All I’ve heard on that front is that Leventhal is going to write an article tomorrow because he doesn’t have the answers tonight. For as much as I know, it will likely be full of speculation as he had zero answers as of 11:30pm. You’ve heard more?

Basically saying that we've reached an agreement that will go up to €15m but that Brighton are offering young Pervis more money so he might still go there.

 

Leventhal said on the FTRE that someone close to Estupinan told him a move is imminent. So either Levental is lying, Levethal's source is lying, or Ivic is lying.

 

Of course it is possible neither are lying.

 

Dawson would be no loss. What a t*** to refuse to play like that though. There must be interest in him that’s prompted such a childish move but I don’t know who’d be silly enough to waste their money.

Estupinan leaving would be a shame. If it really is the last year of his contract then we’ve snookered ourselves in negotiations and £15 isn’t bad. As I said before I hope we have a good sell on in there because he could go to Barcelona for £50m in a years time. Giannoulis anyone?

Suarez is the most irreplaceable imo. Goal scorers are very hard to find and to my mind Perica, Murray and Gray won’t be good enough. It will not be easy to find someone who can almost guarantee 15 goals this year and it will be even harder to convince them (and afford them). This might cost us.
